This is a difficult subject to address and is often taboo in many cultures & religions. This subject is not ‘haram’ it is not ‘shameful’ & it is NEVER the victims fault. Let’s delve into the statistics; roughly, only 5% of reports end up with a conviction of the perpetrator. In the year of 2017 the CSEW estimated that 20% of women & 4% of men have experienced some type of sexual assault since the age of 16 & only 15% of these cases are reported to the police. On estimate, 11 men/women experience rape/attempted rape/sexual assault in England & Wales every hour. 90% of victims of rape know their rapist prior to the offence. In France, roughly 206 rapes occur every day, so that’s about 9 victims an hour. They also concluded that 1 out of 10 women are victim of rape at least once in their lives. Get this through your head: women rape/sexually abuse men, men rape/sexually abuse women, women rape/sexually abuse women, men rape/sexually abuse men. Don’t think it can only go one way. I am sorry that nobody believed you. I am sorry that your family told you to keep quiet. I am sorry the police didn’t do a single thing. I am sorry that you were made fun of once opening up. I am sorry your voice was not heard. I am sorry they blamed you. I am sorry any of this happened to you. I am sorry. But keep fighting, as hard it is, others need your strength and your support. One of the Causes to Depression: Part 1 Prisoner in society Depression is a mental and spiritual thing. No one can help you cure depression. Not even pills can cure depression. Depression is something that you have to defeat on your own by going within yourself. I believe that if you want to overcome your depression you have to commit to fully understanding deeply for yourself what depression truly is. It may lead you to finding ways to overcome it and understanding yourself. I too experienced depression and I realized that the reason I was depressed was because of the life that I was choosing to live. And I felt controlled like as if my life wasnt really my life. Who was i living life for, was it for me or was it for others? I had to question the way that i was thinking, questioning all of my beliefs. I began realizing that my beliefs werent my beliefs at all. They were all beliefs instill in me from a young age. Things that society tells you to have value in. All the society rules that I have been following including my own countries traditions and believes and I realized that my freedom was restricted and I had to be a certain way in order for people to accept me. I felt like a prisoner within sociey, allowing myself to be controlled. I was so miserable that it was as if my free-will is taken away from me. Where I felt helpless,hopeless, and powerless. And alot of people dont realize how they are allowing others to have control over them and their life. I believe that depression is a self-sabotage, a self-destruct button where you are you choosing to rebel. Your soul is saying that you are tired and dont like the life that you have chosen to live. As I was prepping her for surgery she recited to me the reasons that it was being done. She said that it would stop the growth of unwanted hair on her face and body, her skin would become lighter and she would be more appealing to a future husband. What? I wanted Noah to attend the vigil tonight in PDX for George Floyd to show solidarity with Minneapolis, but he didn’t want to go. When I picked him up afterwards, I brought him this sign from the vigil and he expressed to me that he didn’t want to go because he was scared and worried that the police would show up and things would get dangerous for the people. But he understands the message of the sign and supports the movement and wants people to know what he stands for. Noah’s a half Black, half East Indian 10yr old with albinism and everytime another Black life is murdered at the hands of the police, I think of him first. I think about how he was born with a rare disease that affects 1 and 20k people in the US, one that allows him the ability to appear white...which, in-turn, could essentially save his life one day. I think about the fact that so many others do not have this ability and are instead targets simply for the color of their skin. Targets to racist and hateful ass people that value power over other human lives like the cops that murdered George Floyd. Racism is power, white supremacy is terrorism...this country was built on it and you should be sick of it. I’m so sad and angry lately, but I’m taking comfort in Noah and his honesty and strength and love that he shows me everyday.
