Six. Long. Months. The last couple of weeks have felt like some of the hardest for me, like a long distance runner hitting a brick wall as they approach the final couple of miles, it has been a slog, so near yet so far. It has been half a year of homeschooling, juggling work, shouting, screaming, anxiety, relentless meal preparations, wondering why the kids cant seem to entertain themselves for 5 sodding minutes, wondering why I am so unfit I can’t even do a P.E. lesson (thanks Joe!), trying (and failing) to find a screen time balance, frustration, constant noise, mess, crying, crumbs EVERYWHERE. There have been highs (the togetherness) and lows (also the togetherness). No one knows what is around the corner, but as schools start back this week and a sense of normality returns, I think we all deserve to give ourselves a little recognition for getting through some pretty shitty times. So whether you feel like youve done a great job, a mediocre job or a barely even passable job, it doesnt matter - youve still done it. Hi #poetrycommunity, how are you all? I’ve been posting less because I’ve been focusing on my mental health and the current events that are taking around the world have been exhausting me. After the hearing of #breonnataylor case, we are once again reminded that this world doesn’t give a fuck about women, especially when you’re a woman that’s black, indigenous, or of color. I feel defeated. Once again I’m reminded that the world we live in is unfair, unjust, and pure evil. I wrote this piece to honor my mother - The woman behind the growth and progress of this poet. The strength and power I have today is a result of this brave woman. A woman who wasn’t afraid to fight the entire world for the sake of her three boys (I’m the middle child). This piece uses two prompts shared by the uber talented Saakshi @anonymousxonly Prompt 1 - My mother sleeps with a dagger under her pillow. Prompt 2 - Haunted silence To the men reading this - Take a minute and remind the women in your life that you love them, that you care for them, that you cherish them, and that you stand with them no matter what! And once you’re done reminding them of their greatness, get angry. Be very very angry. From Pakistan to U.S, women keep facing violence in one form of the other and in all honesty it is our fault. It is our fault that with our silence we’ve taught the perpetrators that they can get away with all the shit they make our women go through. Use your voice, your strength, your power, and your courage to amplify the voices and struggles of the women around you. Listen to them when they say they’re being oppressed. Let’s teach ourselves, our sons, and our fellow men that before being a wife, a daughter, a mother, or a partner, a woman is a human! What do you do with the things that no longer give you joy? A survey by @the_bhf in 2019 found that a third of people threw homewares away rather than finding ways to give them a new lease of life, whether through recycling, reusing or donating to charity. Naber is one of the finest Viennese coffee roasters. Established in 1908 it also has its own coffee shops in Vienna. One of them is run by Ernst Naber Jr. who also started his own line of coffees: N.B.R. In 2019 I designed the first espresso cup for N.B.R. based on the Iconic Naber Logo on the Fassade of the Café in the center of Vienna. The cup references the mosaic tiles the original Logo is made from.
