Who can bell this cat? A leopard at large, injured two women in a village of #Katarinaghat #Wildlife #Sanctuary on subsequent days, on 14 and 15 August 2020. The DFO Katarinaghat requested our team to take the lead and address the case. The team visited the houses of the victims and location of attack to gather information. On 17th night the leopard injured another person of the same village. The very next morning, the team deployed #CameraTraps in the field and on the same day, got a camera trap image of a male leopard, wandering around the #conflict location. The Forest Department decided to deploy a trap cage and sure enough, around 11 PM the leopard got trapped in the cage. On 20th of August, the leopard was found fit after a physical examination and was successfully released in the forest of #Katerinaghat Range. Wild animals are meant to live #ForeverWild. I’ll never forget this moment, those cows were so beautiful, so perplexed and so soulful and at one point as they followed me walking down the fence they all started running and it sounded like a stampede. It’s a discombobulating experience to sing opera next to the sound of a cow stampede and I wish you could all hear what it really sounded like, but hopefully the cows make you smile like they did me & Paul at the time. De uns tempos pra cá, eu venho percebendo que as pessoas na internet vem se tornando cada vez mais iguais, tanto a cara quanto no comportamento nas redes sociais. Eu cansei de ver as mesmas caras, as mesmas dancinhas de tiktok( me julguem eu n consegui ser tiktoker), os mesmos challenges, as mesmas caras e bocas de sempre. Eu sei que pode ser uma fase, sei que pode ser eu mesma que nunca tive muita fé no ser humano, mas pelo menos pra mim tá tudo meio saturado. Por vezes eu já tentei criar coragem de me mostrar mais como sou, fazer o que gosto e postar e foda-se, mas no fundo sempre me importei com o que “os outros” iriam achar, se iriam rir de mim, se estaria feio ou mal feito... mas até a quarentena me fez perceber que ninguém se importa, só vai lá e faz sabe? E não espere apreço de ninguém, nem daqueles que dizem: to contigo! Pois são os primeiros a não dar valor no teu trabalho e a não se importar. Só faz por você, seja você mesmo e tente ser diferente de todas as milhões de caras que a gnt vê igual por aí. Eu penso muito em gravar vídeos conversando, falando sobre coisas do dia a dia, meus gostos de séries e filmes, ate mesmo cantando, mas a minha ansiedade não me deixa sair da vontade, e isso é horrível, mas isso já seria outro textão que eu sei que muita gente nem esse aqui vai ler kkk Enfim, eu só precisava desabafar um pouco sobre o que ando sentindo sobre redes sociais, pessoas e vontades. Esse vírus me fez ver que a gnt pode morrer daqui prali e não fazer muita coisa que tem vontade. Por isso voltei a me tatuar, por isso gravei vídeo cantando( criando coragem pra postar), e valorizo cada dia mais quem tá comigo. (E aprendia a me valorizar também, chega). In the dim of night everything was alright, oryx was alone. The question of who else was around was always on Oryx’s mind but at least they were not by Oryx’s side. When morning came so did worry. As the sun rose & the hues of dawn lost their battle with the rising sun Oryx’s anxiety rose, a pest & source of worry was always near. Oryx wondered why the mysterious beast always followed oryx around, different times of day, showed different types of faces, but one thing was the same. Long pointy horns always threatened harm. If oryx turned its head sometimes they would disappear, but not the constant inner fear. Only after sunset & the blackest of nights were things right. Oryx decided that something had to be done, no life is worth living in fear, so Oryx began to run as the sun burnt bright. Unfortunately, the beast kept up. Over the plains & into the dunes where no one went, oryx kept running. The beast kept up. Oryx pushed on to exhaustion & collapsed in a heap. Oryx thought, what is a life worth living if always under stress. Oryx gave up & fell asleep. Sometime later oryx woke, surprised to be alive. Looking around the fear instantly grew, by Oryx’s side was the beast. But it rested just as oryx. Oryx looked on & wondered why it had not hurt oryx as it had thought. Oryx rose, so did the beast. Oryx wanted this settled then & there so decided to take the beast front on. Oryx turned to map out an escape if things turned bad, but then Oryx realised the beast was gone. It must have done the same. Turning back Oryx saw it standing there again, but confidence overcame oryx. Oryx realised that they were both the same, worried for something that ultimately was not there, mind games had spun oryx. It must have been the same for the beast Oryx had feared for so many days. Having taken on oryx’s greatest fear oryx realised the beast had the same insecurities, maybe it had wanted friendship after all. Oryx was at peace, having taken on its greatest fears. Oryx realised that the greatest fears turn into minor hurdles when met front on. To this day, oryx still roams the dunes happy to be alone all be it but the beast by its side. - @benmcraephotography on Instagram

Amazing to be back in the Pilanesberg after spending a year in the Okavango, seeing old faces again was nostalgic for me, spent some time with Rain and her cubs on a rainy afternoon while they searched for prey and quenched their thirst from pools of rain water in the road. What was really special about this sighting for me was that I had her and the previous set of cubs (around the same age) on the same road and the exact same spot! Its #sharkweek! 🦈 Sharks play an incredibly important role in the marine ecosystem. They pick out the weak and sick keeping their prey from overpopulating or spreading disease. Despite this they seem to be portrayed in the media as something to fear. I like to think of them more as misunderstood. Yes, sharks can be dangerous, they are predators, but the amount of people actually killed by sharks annually is actually quite low (1.1 people/ year over the last 20 years). Shark nets and drums put in place to protect swimmers only create a false sense of security. The nets do not stop sharks swimming in the shallows and the drums rarely catch an actual target species. There is currently a petition to remove these nets (link in bio) as marine creatures are getting caught and killed in or injured by them at an alarming rate. Sharks need to be respected. Each time you enter the water, you enter their territory. A basic understanding of shark behaviour is what is really needed from the general public to prevent shark bites. @sharkgirlmadison has written a great handbook about this. A few tips include: 🦈 Avoid entering the ocean at sunset/sunrise as this is when they hunt. 🦈 Avoid swimming/surfing near river mouths. 🦈 Avoid urinating in the water as they can sense this. 🦈 Do not swim/surf in areas where bait balls are present. **Artemisia Herba Alba aka Shih aka Desert Wormwood Today, we are excited to begin to commune with plants that are native to the MotherLand. Up until now, with the exception of our post on Rooibos Tea, the plants discussed have been native to other regions. **Artemisia Herba Alba, or desert wormwood, grows wherever rocky areas of the Sahara Desert are found across the 10 countries* it spans. To thrive in such an environment, this plant has developed many excellent properties, some of which activate healing in the human body. When the aqueous extract of the leaves and bark are consumed, it helps to stabilize glucose levels making desert wormwood** a great companion for those looking to walk back a diabetes diagnosis. It’s essential oils have been studied and found to have monoterpenes, which create an internal environment that is carcino preventative (anti cancer). When brewed as a tea, shih** provides pain relief, mitigates stomach disorders, and can lower blood pressure. I found this herd of tule elk while looking for pronghorn in the Carrizo Plain. They were extremely far away and I only noticed them because of really really small movements that caught my eye. Even with my 600mm lens, it was hard to determine what they were and the heat haze made it even more difficult. I approached them as carefully and quietly as I could but they noticed me well before I was close enough to get any kind of good shot. Still, the experience of being out there all alone for miles on end with the sun intensely bearing down on me while I watched and listened to these greats beasts is what makes this photo special to me. . . . Fue un poco difícil encontrar una buena traducción de el nombre de este animal a español pero aquí va. Aquí ven una manada de wapiti de tule. Los encontré mientras buscaba otro especie de animal en la llanura de Carrizo. Estaban extremadamente lejos y la única razón por la que los vi fue porque note muy pequeños movimientos en la distancia. Aun teniendo mi lente largo de 600mm ,fue muy difícil tratar de determinar qué exactamente eran y el calor causaba bastante distorsión en mi cámara. Me acerque con mucho cuidado tratando de no hacer mucho ruido pero ellos inmediatamente notaron que estaba yo ahi asi que no pude obtener las fotos cercanas que quería. Individual Identification in Leopards. Just like humans, leopards have distinct features that tell them apart from one another and aid in leopard identification. Rosette patterns to leopards are like fingerprints to humans. Rosettes come in a variety of shapes, sizes and formations and learning how to identify and isolate these patterns for comparison against other coats, is a leopard identification skill that takes some practice! There is no set rule on how to identify a leopard, but usually the rosette pattern on left and right side of body is used for comparison and individual identification. Keep heading west. It is so hot! Spend a long day in the car making our way through very flat yellow ground, studded with the dark shapes of cattle at regular intervals. Spot a dingo hanging by its paws in a tree, fur falling off... looking like tiny feathers on the ground. On this particular morning we spotted these 13 Wild Dog puppies who were left alone. We passed 2 hyenas going towards the puppies about 300 metres earlier. Parents arrived in the nick of time and chased approaching hyenas who were now very close. There was relief all round. The puppies were very happy to see their parents and we were happy they were safe from the hyenas. A disaster was averted. #krugernationalpark - @thruthelensofsellohatang on Instagram
