One year ago our team was honored to plan a Chicago restaurant showcase for over 200 guests at @cityhallchicagoevents. We coordinated 20 local restaurants to provide delicious samples of their cuisine. You mean there was unlimited appetizers with a live band, sharing it with great company? Yes, and was truly a dream come true and we thank all of the restaurants and vendors who participated. If only we could have another tasty experience this year! But really, we’re going to lie, this reminds us of the good ol’ days with crowded rooms and no fear of eating food that’s been sat out. The past 8 weeks I set out to create a small series of watercolor paintings blending the world of Narnia with the small German town I live and work in. I chose to create a zine out of these works because I liked the way it turned my art into a story you can read. (Also they’re real cute and tiny) Although these works are meant to be fun and light hearted, they also allowed me to process some of the feelings of living in a foreign place, the timelessness of this season, and the presence of God with us on this journey. Pero también hay formas de dividir el mundo mucho más perfectas. Perfectas y matemáticas. Una de ellas ha sido explorada por el especialista en visualización de datos Jason Davies, radicado en Londres. Él ha aplicado la matemática al reparto político del territorio. Y lo ha hecho con el diagrama de Voronoi. De este modo, ha creado varios mapas para cuya elaboración ha utilizado algoritmos y bases de datos. Así, divide el planeta en regiones que orbitan sobre el punto en el que está la capital o ciudad más cercana. El diagrama de Voronoi es una manera de dividir el espacio en varias regiones. De este modo, se determinan unos puntos llamados “semillas”, algo así como los puntos clave. En torno a ellos se agrupan todos los puntos que son más cercanos a él que a cualquier otra “semilla”. Voronoi se utiliza en todos aquellos estudios en los que hay que determinar áreas de influencia. DESTRUCCIÓN DE CERROS VÍA A DAULE Estas últimas semanas hemos escuchado, compartido y denunciado casos de tigrillos afectados en el área que rodea a Villa del Rey (cercano a Cerro San Enrique) y otros casos cerca del Área de Recreación y uso sustentable Los Lojas. Incluyendo los casos que llegan a la Fundación @proyectosacha El día sábado nuestro líder @ianvargas96 visitó el lugar. Se registraron varias especies de fauna silvestre alrededor de grandes cantidades de basura y deforestación. Entre estas especies encontramos: • Ardillas 🐿 (primer vídeo). Quienes se han desplazado porque se han talado varios árboles de los cerros de ambos lados. Donde también se avistaban conejos hasta hace semanas atrás • Varias especies de aves (segundo video) Que aún en medio de la deforestación se reubican en árboles cercanos compartiendo espacio • 🐆 E incluimos uno de los casos de un tigrillo encontrado muerto a 1 minuto de Villa del Rey, puesto sobre un árbol. No es la primera que sabemos de tigrillos heridos en este sector. Y esta área donde recopilamos información fue recientemente dañada para hacer estrechos senderos, probablemente por maquinaria de empresas. ⚠️❗DENUNCIAMOS ESTAS ACTIVIDADES. En 2017 el Municipio expresó a medios sobre la conservación de fauna y flora, y no vemos indicio de la certeza de esas alegaciones. Y preguntamos a @alcaldia.daule Quien da los permisos para que estas empresas destruyan los cerros ?. Quien permite que sea un tiradero de basura ? Y quien no da el control debido en estas zonas ?. Especially the design of the discrete symetric high(er) voltage converter (+/- 26V) is something Im cautious with 😬 so Im waiting to validate that part of the circuit before getting another PCB made on good faith 😅 . . . . Some of you guys were asking questions about the slightly longer RF trace (its really only 29 mm in length); this was laid out this way on purpose to get the antenna in an area where it can sit somewhat in free air. In reality, I think I squeaked words of joy @craig_struthers and did an embarrassing victory lap of the workshop. I honestly set out working on this as a conservation rather than a restoration effort with no expectation of getting it running, only, I got a bit carried away! There’s a delicate balance in watchmaking between when to, and when not to, restore and it’s one I often struggle with. Well, here it is clean with the rust removed and a new *very* old stock bull’s eye crystal. (Photo above is of a 1938 red-lining map.) ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ @youngurbanpres caption: ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Scars remind us that our past is real.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The location of Daniel Prude’s murder, Jefferson Avenue, is one of those scars, one of those lines of division in our community, a setting with a relevant context.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Historically, Jefferson Avenue marked the western edge of the Third Ward (which included what is today known as Corn Hill), one of two neighborhoods (the other being the Seventh Ward) in which the white power structure allowed Black residents to live. Government-sponsored segregation through racist housing tactics such as redlining, restrictive covenants, and realtors’ refusals to sell to Black families in white neighborhoods kept Black Rochesterians hemmed into these two neighborhoods. This ultimately led to overcrowding and substandard housing conditions, particularly as the African American population in Rochester grew rapidly during the Great Migration. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Concerns about poor housing conditions were one of many issues that contributed to the “riots” or rebellion of 1964. It wasn’t until the 1960s and 70s, after the Seventh Ward was obliterated by urban renewal and conditions in the Third Ward became even worse, that Black residents were able to move west of Jefferson Avenue and outside the Seventh Ward. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ These divisions that existed and continue to exist in our city and surrounding suburbs are no accident. White-dominant governments, systems, and white individuals created and enforced them. They continue to harm Black residents and benefit white ones. Structural racism impacts  health, housing, education, wealth, employment, interactions with police, and more for Black Rochesterians. Undoubtedly, this context informed and contributed to the situation in which Daniel Prude and seven police officers found themselves in the wee hours of March 23rd.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ *Continued in the comments.* - @rocbrainery on Instagram

@michaelleagueplaysmusic - The last week and a half has been a creative firestorm thanks to fellow Snarky Puppy @justinmstanton, who had the idea to lock 5 musician/producer/songwriters together in a remote location to compose 10 new songs as part of a residency in the incredibly beautiful Alentejo region of Portugal. It barely happened (I tested false positive for COVID, there were loads of issues getting out of the US for the New Yorkers, etc.), but in the end, @beccastevensbsb, @giselajoaoaberdadeira, @reallouiscato, Justin, and I (plus special guest @schramnate and engineer extraordinaire @nic.hard) pulled it off and cranked out 10 new little babies for a concert tonight that will now be without an audience due to the recent arrival of a malevolent group of music-hating extraterrestrials, so weird that they decided to land here (that excuse sounds way cooler than COVID). It will be filmed and eventually made available for viewing, methinks. I can’t thank @alentejo.ert and @municipiodeportalegre enough for making it happen, and the beautiful winery @casa_da_urra for being such wonderful hosts.
