This is the time we need you and your support the most. @bp.surfs suffered a blast injury this morning when she was pumping up a board with an industrial compressor before our surf camp. She was thrown backwards by the blast and hit her head on the ground. She has 7 stitches in the back of her head, a concussion, and a carpel fracture from where the compressor hose hit her hand. She was driven to Salida Hospital from BV in an ambulance where the accident happened. After a CT scan and X-rays in Salida they determined she needed to be flown to St. Anthony’s in Denver so she could be assessed by a neurologist. She has air in her skull and brain hemorrhaging from the blast injury. As you all know medical transport and treatments are extremely expensive. The best thing for Brittany from here on out is to ONLY have to worry about HEALING. We can all make sure of this by donating! Mas, além de ligar som alto, jogar lixo no chão (latinhas, garrafas de cerveja, cigarro, embalagens) ainda queimam, quebram e depredam as placas. Ai eu pergunto: pra quê? Não sou exemplo, cuido do meu pátio e enfrente à minha casa, não recolho o lixo todos os dias das ruas como elas, mas pelo menos eu não ajudo a sujar ou a destruir. For this project i asked people to send me a picture with a word or phrase showing something negative that they have seen associated with mental illness. The most common phrase was “attention seeking”. - - I have been called an “attention seeker” on numerous occasions and it made me feel so invalidated which made me keep everything to myself instead of reach out for help. Your mental health struggles do NOT: make you and attention seeker make u manipulative make u a burden make u selfish. AND YOU DO deserve help !! - - The only way to end the stigma is by educating each other on mental health which is what i am hoping to do by creating this project. The terms which are shown in the pictures above can make mental illnesses worse and make recovery a lot harder. - Instead of saying, “You’re so lazy you never clean your room.” Try saying “Are you doing okay? If you’re struggling i could help you tidy your room if you are okay with that?” - Instead of saying, “You’re so selfish, why can’t you just stop self harming because when our family see you’re scars they are going to judge me and say i am a bad parent” Try saying, “I know your struggling with self harm at the moment but is there anything we could do together to keep you distracted or would you feel more comfortable maybe texting me when you have urges so we can work through it together?” - These are only examples and may not work for everyone but instead of instantly labelling someone with negative words try understanding them first by starting a conversation with them instead. - - We can #endthestigma together!! To my fellow bi babies!! This is for you. I SEEEEEE you! And I wanna say something. For ages (and low key still now) I felt uncomfortable with saying I’m bi. There’s stigma in the straight world (can’t choose/ hyper-sexual/ make your mind up/ it’s a phase) and also in the queer community (I wouldn’t date a bisexual/ they’re not queer/ don’t come to the club in your straight presenting relationship). Bisexuality gets a wrap of being binary and exclusionary. But being bi to me means being attracted to genders other than my own. There are many gender identities and they are ALL beautiful and SEXY. I flitter between bisexual, pansexual and queer. I relate to all of them but distanced myself from bisexuality because of the negative connotations. If you’re bi and in a straight-presenting relationship, you’re not any less queer or bisexual. The queer community has some work to do in embracing that as well. There is A LOT to be said for straight-presenting privilege. Previously being in a relationship with a cis-man meant I didn’t experience homophobia/ anti-queerness. But I struggled so much with my sexuality! I felt that I was less valid. I felt like I was lying, hiding. Connecting with other bisexual people helped me get through that. The thing is if we didn’t have such a rigid binary in terms of gender and sexuality from hundreds of years of white Christian European domination then maybe our culture would be different. Maybe we wouldn’t have to stress over labels. But here we are. So yes, it’s not simple and often confusing. But I’m with you. I see you, and you are still VALID in your queerness. And to all my other queer siblings, to the trans angels, gender non-conforming baes, to my lesbian, gay, fluid and pan boos - this day is for all of us and I celebrate for you too. I debated on sharing my thoughts on a public platform. But this time, I feel strongly that we must all speak up. We must all protest the treatment of our brothers and sisters of color. We must all support healthy solutions and protesting. We must all empathize with the unimaginably difficult life challenges that our friends, neighbors, family members, students, teachers, coworkers etc endure on a daily basis. There is no way a white person could ever understand what it feels like to be discriminated against or profiled on a daily basis, let’s be straightforward with acknowledging that privilege. But if you are white, you can empathize and you can educate yourself. The issue is not black vs blue. It’s racism. Let’s address it for what it is - the issue is racism. And it exists. It exists in our own communities. At the sacrifice of another life, it has proven again to exist in our policing. We must all do better. We must all encourage each other to do better. I do not need to be in downtown to share my voice. I encourage others to share their voice on their social platforms as well to demand the issue of racism to end. We must all speak up. We must all demand this to end. I can’t imagine the pain, hurt, frustration, confusion and brokenness that you must feel. I feel immensely saddened watching a video of a grown man in tears begging a younger man to “do better”. I am so saddened for the family and loved ones of George Floyd. A common stereotype of sexuality professionals is that they are “hypersexual and that their “obsession” with sex is what motivates them to enter the field. However, research tells us that this view is inaccurate. In a study published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, hundreds of sex educators, researchers, and therapists were surveyed about their sex lives and their reasons for entering the field. The three most commonly cited reasons for becoming a sexuality professional were “the field is interesting” (94%), there is still “a lot left to learn about sexuality” (84%), and the desire to “improve sexual health” (79%). Overwhelmingly, people’s motivations for entering the field didnt have anything to do with their own sex lives. In terms of sexual behavior, while sexuality professionals reported more acceptance of sexual diversity, they were actually less likely to report having had casual sex in the past year compared to the national average; however, they did report much higher rates of condom usage. Certainly, there is individual variability—some folks have much higher levels of sexual behavior than others. However, the overall trend tells us that the stereotypes about sexuality professionals aren’t grounded in reality. This is Kully. She enjoys having an active part fundraising in the community, and believes it is a great opportunity to positively interact with people whilst raising funds to help care of terminally ill people. Earlier this year she was part of a team 25 volunteers who all assisted with a bucket collection at Pride Park. We normally have regular fundraising events throughout the year and are always very grateful for assistance from volunteers. During lock-down I have been busy with home schooling, gardening and generally keeping the hub of the house stocked up to feed two active and very hungry teenagers!! Not being able to socialise has been the most difficult part of lockdown, I have missed friends and family and really look forward to the local restaurants opening so I can have a break from cooking!
