🏔Huayna Potosi, 6088masl (19,974 ft) is often referred to as one of the easier 6000m elevation climbs. However, when you get strong hight sickness at rock camp, and still has 1000 hight meters to go, you understand where the saying one step at the time originates from. One step at a time, the approach to this particular “summit” is a long one. As most of you know, we’ve been filming ‘La Liste - Everything Or Nothing’ with @jeremieheitz and @samanthamatten for the last two winters. The film was set to release this fall, but #Covid19 has forced us to postpone production for a year. The good news is that the project’s still going forward, and we have one more year to slot ourselves into the high alpine with Sam and Jérémie. And it also gives the lines on Jeremie’s new list another year to come into condition. As skiers and riders we embrace the outdoors as part of our lives. Bristol Mountain holds a special place in all of our hearts. We gather at the mountain with our families and friends in the winter to enjoy the vast outdoors and create new memories. This summer we have been working hard, preparing the mountain and creating a space for you to enjoy. We began the next phase of development of the Rocket Lodge, doubling the seating capacity of the first floor and creating additional outdoor seating on the new Rocket Patio. In June we resumed operations at Bristol Mountain Aerial Adventures and Roseland Wake Park and this fall we have welcomed guests back to the mountain for Fall Sky Rides. There will be changes to how we operate this season to accommodate for social distancing and to ensure a safe environment for our staff and our guests. While these new procedures may be different, they will not impact the thrill of carving turns, the views of the Bristol Valley, or the joy that you experience spending time with those who are most important to you. “The marches are terribly monotonous. One’s thoughts wander occasionally to pleasanter scenes and places, but the necessity to keep the course, or some hitch in the surface, quickly brings them back. There have been some hours of very steady plodding today; these are the best part of the business, they mean forgetfulness and advance.” – Robert Falcon Scott . Throwback to steady plodding, high on the Antarctic Plateau (and traversing the Titan Dome at nearly 3,200m above sea level, where temperatures fall below -80 °C. in winter). Tarka and I spent a month at altitude, between December 2013 and January 2014, covering some 600 miles (965km) on the plateau, in the middle of our 1,800-mile (2,900km) return journey to the South Pole in foot. . In the 5th photo were camped in high winds (note the wall we built at the windward end of our Hilleberg Keron 3 GT tent) and weve just buried a depot of food for our return journey, beneath the black carbon fibre flag pole. N.B. the long shadows - we had 24-hour daylight for 108 days. . In the 6th photo, Tarka is collecting snow to melt (we had to produce all of our drinking water on a stove) at the end of another long day. The snow bag was also the stuffsack our tent was stored in as we travelled. . The 7th photo is a special occasion - Tarkas changing his underwear (something we did twice in three-and-a-half months) - and the metabolic demands of covering nearly 70 consecutive marathons with a sledge in tow are obvious. Irondog 2020 was one I’ll never forget the ups and downs and everything in between. First of all I want to thank my wife and kids for always pushing me to chase my dreams. I have a couple of wishes for this upcoming winter. First of all, let there be snow early and season ends in june. Second , let the lifts run normally. [ #covid19 ] Touring is good, but liftbased skiing gives me so much! Third , calm low pressures with tons of snow and not too much wind. Four, I hope I can seak in a session #Lofoten with guests and without guest. Five, Note to self and ski hungry norwagians. November will be good in #Romsdal and #Nordmøre. It allways is. The easy part is how to dress. I mainly use #lofoten #goretex anorak and pant. During testing last season i realized it the best skisetup I have ever tested!Thanks @norrona . The first @americandownhiller camp was a success to say the very least. This camp was the first of its kind with perfect weather in an enthusiastic environment. Each kid showed up with a great attitude and I still cant get over the improvements that each athlete was able to make over 5 days of training.
