I Cant Recall It Lightly At All, Mirror proof of concept 16x20 inches Reverse Glass Gilding of Silver Leaf, Copper Leaf, Black Leaf, 12kt White Gold Leaf, 18kt Lemon Gold Leaf, and 24kt Gold Leaf ➖ Turns out its pretty difficult to photograph a mirror. The images where the mirror appears white is because I have it reflecting a white foam core board. Swipe ➡️ through all the photos to see! Theres also a video at the end that really shows the mirror well. ➖ I really enjoyed discovering this mirror making technique. It had tons of challenges and took me a few months to get right but Im very pleased with the results. Im excited to take this to the nth degree and see how far I can push this medium. More mirrors definitely coming up! ➖ I filmed the whole process, I just need to edit all the footage and then Ill post the making of video. The fifth release in this series is inspired by a monumental event in Dead history and one that has been immortalized in the Cornell ’77 Box Set... May 8, 1977 - Barton Hall, Ithaca, NY. This show is special for many reasons… to me it represents one of the most solid shows the band ever played and at the peak of their career. A show that included spectacular renditions of staples like “Jack Straw”, “Dancing in the Street” “ScarletFire” and a killer “St. Stephen Not Fade Away St. Stephen Morning Dew”. A show that wasn’t necessarily most improvisational or experimental, but was played so well that the band and the crowd felt the special energy being made that night and that tour. A show held in the spring, but as the crowed filed out for the night, they were met with snow falling from the sky. Also, this show’s amazing recording, a “Betty Board” recorded by Betty Cantor-Jackson, was added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress… and makes it a staple of any Deadhead’s collection. - @thehalfandhalf on Instagram

When it comes to commissions, I like to get personal. + No matter what the job or requested subject is, I will dive deep and explore what the symbols, color, technique are that will best tell that story. + I will look into the surrounding area and use elements and symbols to help drive the story of the piece. I will investigate their history and what makes this particular piece special for the patron. + For this particular piece, I got to know and become closer to the person commissioning the piece. + It started with a story about the wolf. Why this animal was a positive symbol to his life. + I discovered this was based around his ability to figure out problems. Clean things up quickly. Get things done. + For that I knew the wolf had to be moving. It’s gaze had to be aware of something that was near. Focused on a point. + The sun, eagles wing and water lily all are different representations for the summer month of which he was born. + The turtle, a childhood memory of security. + Collecting each little piece of information and playing each one off of the other, the artwork begins to take shape on its own. New work - Art Direction & Design for @toucheamore LAMENT out October 9 on @epitaph Deluxe edition 📸 by @george_lesage Going to divulge a lot more detail on this one as we go along, but here’s a start: Lament was born from internal vs external pressure. On a personal level, how do you top the last body of work you poured your entire self into along with four others? That expectation can be extremely tough to navigate. Luckily what we found in our producer @ross_robinson was the most enthusiasm, drive, dedication, and love I may have ever seen in a human. It made us all dig deeper. The record was almost self-titled, creative direction established, easy to slap a track-list on, package up and call it a day. I can’t entirely speak for @jeremyxbolm, but his itch to tie a perfect bow on things just wouldn’t let it happen. Due to this back and forth (trusting our gut but knowing something greater lay ahead) this record started as a series of disjointed concepts and visual experiments. Some made it, some didn’t, but all informed the end product. Total immersion in the lyrical themes, weaving threads through tangental ideas, exposing the ups and downs of the creative process, and pushing through those roadblocks was extremely gratifying. All of this and more is displayed in the 72 page hard bound deluxe edition featuring photography by one of my best friends and closest creative collaborators @george_lesage. We flipped the nature of our working relationship on its head this time, feeding him inspiration to produce visuals for me instead of the opposite I’ve done for his endeavors over the last decade. We will also be unveiling a visual album piece by piece on YouTube, starting today with “Limelight” directed and animated by myself, edited by @mdrndvsn. I can’t thank @epitaph enough for believing in every move and @blzjames @alexandermerchant always making things happen for us. - @nicksteinhardt on Instagram

I created this for Zoo Atlanta’s Beastly Feast, a virtual gala last night to raise money for the zoo. I hid the world ‘ZOO’ in the white rhino and of course ‘Atlanta’ rests in the grass below. 🌾 Zo starej Bratislavy vystupuje parný mlyn. Najväčší z roku 1880. Postavila ho rodina Ludwigovcov, chovatelia prasiat. Okolie už zmenil čas, ale torzo pamiatky pretrvalo. Daniela Olejníková nakreslila silo mlynu pre knihu Stratená Bratislava. @danielaole má dnes narodeniny a my nemáme žiaden darček, len poďakovanie za celé tie roky. Za fantáziu, ktorá zarámovala celý projekt Čierne diery od prvej grafiky pred 5 rokmi až po tie najťažšie nápady. Ludwigov mlyn sme priniesli včera do centra Bratislavy len ako jednu z grafík. Akurát dnes sme si ich všetky pozerali v príprave na výstavu a opäť nás dostala Danielina schopnosť znova sa vynájsť. Z Ludwigovho mlyna je pamiatkou už len mohutné silo z roku 1937, ktoré sa vyníma kúsok od obchodného domu Central. Posledný stojaci Sklad C od architektov Cyrila Urbana a Juraja Tvarožka bol zásadne prestavaný na bytový dom. Ostatné sklady sa nezachovali. Opodiaľ vznikol ďalší nový bytový dom s názvom Ludwigov mlyn. Len to silo stále čaká na nový nápad, nové využitie. Three new releases out today. First up, the new CONTAINER album is finally released in full. Two copies of Blue vinyl remain at our Bandcamp and the inverted version will be shipping soon as long as the health crisis allows. Of course there is the CD too which sounds loud as fuck and looks smart. Secondly, there are two new Helm live albums made available at Bandcamp. Saturnalia is a recording from the Saturnalia festival at Macao in Milan a couple of years ago. Oregon Crisis is a recording from the Portland date of the USA tour with Blanck Mass and Steve Hauschildt. Both are mastered by John Hannon and Jack Callahan respectively and are to try and help with costs incurred due to the COVID19 outbreak. Also as Bandcamp waver their fees today, all digital income received from Bandcamp will be given to the artists so now is a good time to stock up on missing back catalogue items. While clearing out the attic with my stepson recently, I came across a box of album sleeve artwork created by Pauline Kennedy aka Caramel Crunch. She was responsible for the design of my album and single covers and my ad campaigns and t-shirts from 1984’s Brewing Up to Don’t Try This At Home in 1991. Pauline was a long-term collaborator with Barney Bubbles, who designed the sleeve for Life’s A Riot with Spy vs Spy. The pair first worked together at Stiff Records in the mid-70s. For a while Pauline went off be the art director at the NME, but by the time I came knocking, they were working together again. When Barney took his life in late 1983, Pauline picked up the torch and took over designing my artwork. In her first commission, the sleeve of the Brewing Up album, she utilised an illustration that Barney had done for my run of gigs at the Captain’s Cabin as the striking image on the front cover. In the days before Photoshop, designing an album sleeve was as much about draughtsmanship as it was artistic verve. Pauline would create an artwork by hand, drawing with a rapidograph pen, utilising a bevelled edge protractor to prevent the ink from blotting, taking images of typeset lettering with a photo-mechanical transfer camera. She developed the pictures herself and then literally – with scissors and cow gum – cut and paste the letters onto a board. This required a number of technical skills, not least estimating the number and size of letters that would fit into the space available. Sometimes, she would be required to produce a freehand drawing. The illustration on the cover of Levi Stubbs’ Tears was drawn by Pauline, as were all the figures on the front of Don’t Try This At Home. When computers began to dominate design and the size of CDs covers gave little opportunity for artistic detail, Pauline decided to shut up shop and start a new life outside of London and the pressures of the record industry. She rang me one day to say she was throwing all her artwork out and if I wanted my originals, I should get round there sharpish to save them from the skip. Needless to say, I was over in a flash.
