No bad movements, just those we aren’t ready for 💪🏼 ❌One of my biggest pet peeves is hearing a patient come in to see me and tell me they’ve been told they can’t do x, y, or z because it’s bad for them. Or they will never be able to do a certain activity after a surgery. 📚I’m a huge believer of (& so is research) that there are no bad movements, lifts, or activities—just those we aren’t ready for. If your PT or healthcare provider tells you this, you should consider getting advice from someone else. 🏃🏼♀️For example, many people have hard the “don’t run it’s bad for your knees” or you’ll regret running so much later on when you have bad knees. Research has shown this is not the case— in fact many marathon runners do not suffer from OA or other chronic knee pain and many novice runners actually have decreases in knee pain. 💡However, if you are not a runner and go try to run a half marathon, you may have knee pain—This does not mean running is harmful, just that you did too much before you were ready. Same thing goes for heavy lifting. Trap bar deadlifts & heavy back squats are not bad for your knees or your back— but lifting too heavy before you are the strength and tolerance can cause you to be sore or have some discomfort. . . . ▪️What activities, movements, etc have you been told you shouldn’t do because it’s bad for you ▪️Drop your comments below! - @alyssasemones.dpt on Instagram

A intubação orotraqueal durante uma anestesia não serve apenas para que ocorra a anestesia inalatória. Ela é um modo seguro de mantermos patentes as vias aéreas dos nossos pacientes, evitando colapsos, aspirações (cuff inflado!), além de facilitar a oxigenação e a ventilação assistida caso seja necessário. . A posição esternal acaba sendo a mais comum nas rotinas, mas não é a única. Podemos intubar com o animal em decúbito lateral, e o modo mais fácil de intubar sem auíxilio de outra pessoa, é no decúbito dorsal (como na primeira foto!). . Então a dica de hoje é: treinem a intubação em outras posições, saiam da zona de conforto e treinem também os colegas que trabalham com você! ❤️WHY CARDIOLOGY? Thanks @yourheartdoc for tagging me to provide my top 5 reasons for students and doctors in training to become a Cardiologist! Hard to summarize, but.. here they are (I am obviously very biased 😊): 1. ✅So many ways to ACTUALLY IMPACT patient outcomes - from pPCIs in a STEMI setting to primary prevention, you get to truly SAVE LIVES (I will never forget managing my very first cardiac arrest, the thrill of performing CPR, shocking the patient, and bringing her back with us...) 2. ✅Research. I think it’s part of our duty to bring a little contribution to knowledge in our field. I love research and Cardiology is one the most productive areas of medicine if you are interested in “winning the publication game”. 3. ✅A wide range of possibilities. My main focus is advanced echo imaging; however, as a cardiologist you get to choose from mainly clinical duties to “plumbing” (cath lab 😜), being an “electrician” (EP lab 😜), a “photographer” (cardiac imaging 😜) and many other subspecialties - never get bored! 4. ✅Interaction with colleagues. I am REALLY excited about horseshoe crabs today so here are a few interesting facts about them. Horseshoe crabs are not crabs at all and are actually more closely related to spiders than they are to any crab or lobster. There are 4 species still living today, Limulus polyphemus being the only species we see here in North America (pictured). Horseshoe crabs are ANCIENT and we know that because they have very few physical changes compared to ancestral versions of themselves dating back 450 MILLION YEARS in the fossil records. Scientists believe this is because their body structure is extremely effective for survival. They are shaped like a tank, their shell consisting of three parts: The prosoma (front shell), the opisthosoma (back shell) and the telson (tail). In the second photograph you can see their book gills (looks like coiled up wire) that they use to breathe. Their shell is protective but it also has nerve endings that make it sensitive to the world around them. They also have TEN EYES and despite having a spiky tail they are TOTALLY HARMLESS (they do not have a tail like a sting ray). Horshoe crabs have copper based blood that is actually blue and very valuable to the biomedical field because it contains a unique compound called Limulus Amebocyte Lysate that coagulates in the presence of certain bacterial toxins and is used to test for the presence of these toxins. Horseshoe crabs crawl onto the beach to mate and lay eggs, which is what I assume this female was doing. They are very important to the environment as their eggs are an invaluable food source to shore birds. BE NICE TO HORSESHOE CRABS ❤ If you have to pick one up to move them from danger pick them up by either side of their shell (like a sandwich), not by their tail as this can harm them. Im still spinning. 51 years young. Died in his sleep. No one knows why yet. Out of nowhere. Im crushed. I talk to him almost everyday. A brother. A best friend Just fucking gone. And thats the thing about Dadich. He had a lot of friends who considered themselves best friends. They were all correct. He had that much love to give. Before we opened Konbi, we spent plenty of time as cooks just trying to make ends meet the way so many folks in the service industry still do today. That’s why, in a time like this, it is so difficult to decide how to move forward. Do you stay open to guarantee income for your staff and take the risk of causing more harm than good? Do you close the restaurant indefinitely with uncertainty about how you will be able to take care of the real people with real problems of their own that work for you? We’re not quite sure how to move forward yet, so we are going to pause for a day to gather information, talk with our peers, and make a game plan. Monday 3/16 we will close for the day. Meet Dermophis donaldtrumpi. Yes, you read that correctly. Recently discovered in Panama, this new species of caecilian was named after President Donald Trump. EnviroBuild, a British sustainable building materials company, chose Donald Trump as the amphibian’s namesake after winning the rights at auction; equating its behavior to the Presidents stance on climate change. Dermophis donaldtrumpi is blind, and it buries its head in the “sand” (this animal actually buries its entire body in the mud but you get the idea). The president has been very public with his denial of climate change, and EnviroBuild’s joke actually sheds light on a very serious subject. Because this species is an amphibian, it is particularly susceptible to the effects of climate change, and is at a very high risk of becoming extinct as a result of Earths rapidly changing climate and the decisions concerning it. EnviroBuild’s winning bid of $25,000 was the highest of the evening, and all of the proceeds go directly to protecting the land in which the newly discovered species was found. This amazing act of conservation and awareness merits much more attention than just being the punchline of a joke. Its a big step in the right direction for conservation worldwide.
