Are all of these the same? No...yes? They all hydrate the skin (I mean, straight up water and glycerin will do the same thing though—that’s a discussion for another day), but they each have particular ingredients that make them standout products in our collection in their own right. So let’s get into it! Youth to the People Adaptogen Mist ($42/4oz.): this is like a liquid moisturizer. It contains peptides, shea butter, multiple adaptogens (mushroom extracts), and a bit of lactic acid and HA. The misting mechanism is outstanding so it doesn’t leave heavy droplets on the skin, however we have to admit that this will make you look pretty dewy, so just keep that in mind. NIOD SDSM ($50/8oz.): If you’re new here, we have a whole post on antioxidants linked in our Skincare 101 highlight and an even further discussion on our website that focuses on superoxide dismutase, one of the coolest and most powerful molecules out there to protect and repair cells across the body, but in this case, the skin itself. Other notable ingredients in this blend include marine polysaccharides to hold water (in place of HA) and a handful of unique botanical extracts to actively reduce inflammation. This is the mist we grab when our skin is IRRITATED, red, and even itchy (allergic rxn and eczema friendly!). Jordan Samuel Skin Hydrate, The Mist ($29/4oz.): this little gem actually contains quite a few interesting ingredients from red seaweed extract (full of antioxidants on its own), HA, cucumber extract, panthenol, Leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate, pomegranate extract, etc. A lovely mist so far, but we’ll be sure to focus more attention on it once our NIOD one is empty soon. If you didn’t already know Fabrice Croisé from his amazing work with @ericbuterbaughfragrances, you’ll certainly have heard the buzz about his new brand by now: Scents of Wood (@scentsofwood), launching later this month. Actually ‘a brand with three names’, Fabrice also chose the French L’Ame du Bois ‘Soul of Wood’ and the Japanese 森林浴 (Shinrin-Yoku), a term which means ‘Forest Bathing’, the tradition of finding peace and beauty in the woods by experiencing it with all the senses. I recently received 3 numbered samples—without notes or descriptions, just perfumer names—to smell and give my impressions: The first is the work of Mackenzie Reilly (@nascentperfumer), a subtle, lovely sandalwood that dries down into a cedar accord with some clean, clear musks for lift. Not as creamy or nutty as many sandalwood scents, #1 shines in its balance of what I believe is Javanol, a sandalwood molecule, with the cedar note, which is deceptively simple—cedar is often easily overwhelmed by other ingredients. The second, by Pascal Gaurin (@pascalgaurinperfumer), is a rich, complex juice that honours the oakwood barrel ageing process. I detect notes of oakwood, maybe rum ether, cacao abs, vanilla, & tobacco, as well as labdanum and the ethyl ester of its cousin. Straying almost to the gourmand, #2 is addictive and reacts extremely well with the skin. The third is signed by Carlos Benaïm (@carlos.benaim) and is the most diffusive and translucent of the three. It recalls the Japanese influence on Fabrice’s brand, having facets of incense & Norlimbanol and perhaps Hinoki wood, with a fair amount of Iso E Super. It feels modern, minimal, and peaceful, like sitting among cypress trees in a Japanese garden with incense rising from a nearby Shinto temple, where the music of a biwa plays. Overall I am excited for Fabrice and cannot wait to see what is in store for his brand. Sometimes the eating disorder will show up as being “vegan”, “plant-based”, “only local”, “only organic”, “only I make my meals”. Sometimes it will show up as “gluten-free”, “dairy-free”, “sugar-free”, a free-for-all, free from joining with others, free from any exposure where food is concerned. Sometimes it will show up as “keto”, “counting macros”, “intermittent fasting”, “cheat days”. Sometimes it will show up as, “I just feel better when I eat this way”. “I’m less bloated”. “My body doesn’t digest those foods”. “I feel tired when I eat that”. Unfortunately after getting back to Australia, we found it difficult to see each other. Brittney did come to my birthday (and made the effort) in December 2019 and met all of my friends and family. She received rave reviews from all. . I’m mostly to blame for the lack of effort to keep our good thing going because I came straight back into preseason training and couldn’t travel to see her. . I just think there’s too much “wannna-be-perfect-material” on this channel, it’s so boring and it’s a lie. I mean, no judging, I’ve been there, done that, in the end you believe it yourself, you think this fake you is you. I’m almost 43 years old, who am I going to fool? I work in this fashion & beauty industry, I’m supposed to make people look beautiful, and I do, but now I try to make them glow from the inside, because that’s where beauty comes from, if you have worked with me lately, you know I don’t just do makeup, these times required a new professional me. What I do to others I do to myself. My wrinkles are there because I laugh a lot, because I love the sun and I look up to it, yes I frown sometimes because my eyes are becoming lazy and I can’t read. And it’s all good, because there still is a glow that comes from the inside, the age doesn’t matter. It’s there because it is nourished consciously.
