I dont know many people who dont know about this famous trucker photo after 28 years on the road. The side with the advanced aging is obviously the side with exposure. The two types of rays that reach the earth we have to be concerned of are UVA and UVB. UVC doesnt reach us. 95% of it is UVA and is the ray that created the damage on this truckers face who probably had a truckers diet poor in antioxidants and deficient in restorative sleep. The rays alone did not age him, but he didnt have what the body needed to protect him from UVA. UVB generally affects the outer part of the skin and is filtered out by glass according to the American cancer society. UVA goes much deeper, penetrates glass, and damages DNA. UVA is also what they use in tanning beds and is present even on cloudy days. UVB actually acts like a sunscreen to UVA, which is why the more melanin in your skin the more it is protects the deeper layers from UVA. This is why skin cancer rates are lower in African Americans. It also why when you remove pigment from your skin with chemicals and lasers, you lose the bodys ability to protect itself. Tanning is actually a protectant to the UVA radiation. Despite all of this I cant emphasize how vital UV radiation is. Its like denying a plant the sun. Its vital in Vit D production, cardiovascular health and blood pressure, helps to suppress clinical symptoms of MS, and is super antimicrobial, which is why a lot of people clear up their acne in the sun. It is also a mood enhancer that helps release endorphins. Im going to continue to research the optimum time because studies default to 10-15 mins of exposure each day, but they dont account for skin types. Also if your skin is exposed to laser or chemicals you are going to be vulnerable to the suns rays and skin cancer. Think twice before doing these things to your skin. The damage will show up later as the cells divide down the road and I dont know of anyone who properly applies sunscreen at the amount or rate they should. Meanwhile if you commute in your car like a trucker you might want to consider a UV film on your windows. #sunscreen #uvrays #antiaging #summer #esthetician - @mary_schook on Instagram

😔😔😔 After nearly 20 years of having no brown pigmentation at all, my body, for some unknown reason, has decided to start producing #melanin again (what creates colour in skin). I now have little brown spots all over my arms, as well as a couple on my neck and face. And theyve been getting larger and darker. For someone who finally found some solace in finally being one colour after years of struggling, I cant even begin to explain how this is messing with me mentally.
