On a September 28, while on mission in Afghanistan. My life changed, in a blink of an eye, that day the lives of those close to me changed as well. It became my Alive Day, It’s the day death came right alongside me, tapped me on the shoulder and said not yet, it’s still not your time. I may have survived that mission with terrible wounds, maybe their wounds nobody but I can see and feel, but the fact is, I survived. The constant pain and thoughts remind me on a daily basis that I will never be the same. Yet I cant help but feel blessed to still be able to see my kids grow and given the opportunity to meet and hold my first grandson. The shit I’ve gone through in life has only given me the strength and will to continue to push myself ... I always dread this day cause it brings back a lot of emotions and memories out of me. Not all bad, some of them make me miss the brotherhood and good times we had down range. The risks and dangers involved was nothing but a small price I was willing to pay in order to provide for my family. Ill gladly take the aches and pains, the sleepless long nights and the feelings of emptiness, because I was doing what I truly loved to do. Credit for the photo and impeccable timing goes to my friend @706_kurtis who caught his first twister last week near Virden, Manitoba. Please give him a follow for excellent images of the natural world. It may seem like a small thing, but this is a very stressful moment and Kurtis showed great skill in being able to keep calm and get the settings right and capture some of the most dramatic weather images of 2020. This was a bitter sweet moment as a farm yard was severely damaged and sadly two people lost their lives. Something a little different than a story. Since we are an organization of pilots it’s fitting to post this remarkable photo captured. Incredible capture of a pyrocumulonimbus cloud (cumulonimbus flammagenitus) via a plane flying over Fresno County. This is a type of cumulonimbus cloud that forms above a source of heat, such as a wildfire or volcanic eruption. Rising warm air from the fire carries water vapor up into the atmosphere and causes a convective cloud - in this case a cumulonimbus or thunderhead.The CbFg cloud reaches the upper troposphere or even lower stratosphere, which is what you are seeing in this photo. While beautiful from afar, this can be detrimental to an already bad situation. Downdrafts from precipitation can lead to gusty low-level winds, helping the existing fires to spread. Dashcam grab of the strengthening tornado I documented over Madill Oklahoma April 22, 2020. High shear and a relatively small but tight mesocyclone and low precipitation allowed sunlight to illuminate debris flying through the air. Seconds after the tornado inflicted damage to town, the skies were clear and blue. In the distance, a white funnel and rainbow drifted eastward. Severe #thunderstorms brought damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall to much of Queensland, NSW and eastern Victoria yesterday. The storms were fast moving and stretched about 2000 km, all the way from #TennantCreek in the NT to #MtKosciuszko in the south. Over 120,000 #lightning strikes were recorded across eastern Australia over a 10-hour period. The strongest wind gusts observed were 102 km/h at #Thargomindah, Qld; 96 km/h at #Cobar, NSW, and #MountHotham, Vic; and 89km/h at #StGeorge, Qld. In southern Qld strong winds ahead of the thunderstorms whipped up huge dust storms in #Eulo and #Bollon. Large to giant hail was also observed, with 3cm around #WaggaWagga, and 4 to 6cm around #Gundagai in NSW. The highest rainfall was recorded in NSW, including: • 50 mm at #Caroda; • 38.4 mm at #Forbes (24.4 mm falling in 10 minutes; 34mm falling in 30 minutes); • 29 mm at Upper #Horton; • 26 mm at #Carabost (17 mm falling in 10 minutes; 24 mm falling in 20 minutes).
