The reporter mentioned that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Pen Cinema Police Division, Lagos State, Harrison Nwabuisi, has been conducting raids during which he allegedly arrested innocent residents and extorted money from them. He further reported that the police operation took place on Wednesday, being the last day of the Sallah holiday, at Alimi Ogunyemi Street, in the Ifako Ijaiye area and mentioned one Sheriff Aranjure as a prime witness to the alleged extortion by the DPO. Sequel to the allegation, the CP has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, DCP Yetunde Longe, to investigate the officer and other ranks against whom the allegation was made. He equally directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, DCP Elkanah Ayuba, to recall the DPO to the Command Headquarters to allow unbiased investigation into the matter. The Command is therefore appealing to Mr. Sheriff Anjure, said to be a vital and indeed other witnesses in the matter, to make themselves available to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCIID, Panti Yaba, to assist police investigation. This idea is based on the assumption that there is an immediate dissociation of lactic acid into lactate and H+ when produced by glycolysis in skeletal muscle. However, the phosphoglycerate kinase reaction transfers a phosphate and leaves a carboxyl group, and no proton exists to dissociate from lactate - furthermore, the lactate dehydrogenase reaction actually consumes protons, which in turn alkalizes the cell. So where does this burning sensation and fatigue really come from? The hydrolysis of ATP outside of the mitochondria itself (myosin ATPase), is directly contributing to the H+ accumulation in the cell - this process is called metabolic acidosis. Now how about fatigue? Metabolic acidosis (H+ accumulation) is thought to reduce the intracellular pH - inhibiting glycolytic reactions and also directly interfering with muscle excitation coupling by possibly inhibiting calcium binding to troponin or by interfering with cross-bridge recycling. Two take homes here: 1) Lactic acid is not the cause of that burning sensation we are all familiar with when we exercise. 2) I have way too much time on my hands after graduating! The DAO, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and Fair and Just Prosecution on Wednesday unveiled the public exhibition of the groundbreaking DAO Artist-in-Residence program. James “Yaya” Hough, a former juvenile lifer and now an accomplished artist, completed a 10-month residency with the DAO to explore the human toll of incarceration and highlight the importance of creating alternatives to a punitive and incarceration-driven justice system. Hough’s exhibit, “Points of Connection,” will be on display across the city, offering the public a chance to engage in direct dialogue on criminal justice reform issues. This unique project is one of the Activating Art and Advocacy projects funded by generous support from Art for Justice. Brother Assistant District Director Jerron Spraggins is a native of Montgomery, Alabama, and is currently a senior at Auburn University, where he is majoring in computer science with a minor in business. Brother Spraggins is a Spring 2019 initiate of the Omicron Kappa Chapter and currently serves as chaplain, along with many other roles. Outside of Alpha, Brother Spraggins volunteers his time at the Boykin Community center tutoring and mentoring children from the ages of 10 to 17. He also is very involved in his church back home, as he serves as an usher and conducts devotion during Sunday service. On campus, Brother Spraggins is involved in the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen, who are the official hosts and hostesses of Auburn University, Cupola Engineering Ambassadors, and also serves as an ambassador for the Academic Excellence Program sponsored by Alabama Power. Fulton County Sheriff’s Office mourns the loss of two outstanding deputies Two Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies were killed in traffic accident near Augusta, Georgia this morning shortly before noon. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident. The two deputies were on duty in a patrol car on Interstate 20 in Columbia County near Grovetown, Georgia. The fatal accident claimed the lives of Deputy Anthony White, a seven year veteran who joined the agency in December 2012 and Deputy Kenny Ingram who would have marked his 15-years of service in October. Both were assigned to the Law Enforcement Division of the Sheriff’s Office. No one else was in the vehicle. The deputies were on their way to pick up an inmate to transfer to the Fulton County Jail. Sheriff Ted Jackson said, “These men had a profound sense of duty throughout their distinguished careers with this agency and for us and this county, the loss of these deputies is devastating.” Chaplains who volunteer with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office are offering grief counseling to the deputies’ family members and colleagues.
