✨Burnt Fort Chapel in Camden County has a fascinating history that dates back to the 1700s when a group of debtors and outlaws came to this area. They became known as Grays Gang. They settled in what was known as a neutral area between British holdings and Spanish land holdings bounded by the Altamaha and St. Johns Rivers. This was also Creek territory. They built a small settlement that they called New Hanover that was mostly destroyed by the English, but the buildings that remained eventually became a fort and trading post. By the early 1800s, the fort had been burned, allegedly by the natives, and the settlement became known as Burnt Fort from then on. By the 1940s, the old church here had no congregation and had fallen into disrepair. In the 1970s, some of its past congregants stepped up to save the old chapel and a building committee decided to rebuild the church exactly as she was on the same location but slightly larger. 📸Photos courtesy of Randall Davis - @historicruralchurches on Instagram

That’s why the couple has started a fundraiser — with a total goal of $30,000 — to raise money to build a new roof. They have raised $5,000 over the last four years. In December, they launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe titled, “Raise the Roof. Of the $25,000 goal listed on the fundraising page, $2,680 has been raised so far. Codfish Hollow started hosting concerts in 2009 and has since hosted musical acts such as Norah Jones, Nathaniel Rateliff and Counting Crows as well as several multi-day festivals. Biehl said she started the fundraiser because fixing the roof is “not going to be cheap.” And proceeds from shows at the barn would not cover the cost. “There may be a bit of a misconception out there among some people, but we dont really make much money doing this,” she said. “Most, if not all, of the money generated through ticket sales goes to compensating the artists.” During the first five years of the business, the shows didn’t make money at all. Over the years, Biehl said many people have donated building materials, bar equipment and other items used around the barn and at shows. For her and her husband and the many volunteers who help make Codfish Hollow run, Biehl said, “It’s mostly just a labor of love.” - @iowamusicshowcase on Instagram

ESTACIÓN DE AZCUÉNAGA 🛤️ La primera vez que llegué a Azcuénaga (año 2014), no era tan turístico como se convirtió actualmente (exceptuando por el asunto del Coronavirus). La estación de tren estaba habitada, el cartel estaba presente pero no en óptimas condiciones, había pocos restaurantes y la plaza del pueblo con su iglesia. El pueblo encantador y tranquilo. #DidYouKnow The Vann Cherokee Cabin is the oldest verifiable building in Cave Spring. It is listed as a National Trail of Tears site. Built in 1810, the Vann Cherokee Cabin was originally discovered beneath the dilapidated structure of the Green Hotel by a local citizen. Hotel rooms had been added to the cabin obscuring the original structure. After extensive research, the two-story, hand-hewed log cabin was verified to be built in by Avery Vann of the Cherokee Nation. It has been recently restored.
