• May 18, 2020• ⠀ ⠀ “If you’re having sanitation problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but client safety ain’t 1”⠀ ⠀ I’m lucky enough to live a few blocks away from California’s Capitol where many people come to be heard and exercise their First Amendment Right. This photo was taken at the a rally to open salons when many stylists were still on the fence about reopening and we hadn’t received any communications from CBBC. A lot of people thought I was crazy for speaking out, saying that salons were safe enough to be open. I never wanted to open earlier than experts advised but rather not be in the same classification as churches, entertainment venues, and gyms. Cheers to all of the rude people who said they hope we all get cv for attending that rally...spoiler alert, we didn’t. ⠀ • ⠀ Since then we were authorized to open salons only to be shut down again. Salon owners have started looking at numbers of how many clients were serviced, how many stylists worked and how many cases of cv originated from their facility. As it turns out salons are safer than many thought. Even the CDC used salons as an example of the effectiveness of masks. ⠀ • ⠀ So here I am today thinking of a clever sign to make for tomorrow’s rally to re-open salons. This time we have the data to prove that the spread is unlikely in salons. Breaking news - landowner lawsuit update! Today, the Third Circuit Court of Appeal for the State of Louisiana ruled that the Bayou Bridge Pipeline Company (BBP) violated due process rights of landowners when it constructed an oil pipeline across their property before acquiring the legal rights to do so. BBP constructed its crude oil pipeline across privately owned land in the ecologically sensitive Atchafalaya Basin. The court awarded each of the property owners $10,000 and legal fees. “When we first considered taking on BBP, it was conventional wisdom that you couldn’t win against a pipeline company in Louisiana, but we wanted to do what was right regardless,” said landowner Peter Aaslestad. “For others out there thinking they can’t win, I hope this victory shows that they can, and that these companies cannot simply do what they want, run roughshod over people’s rights, and get away with a small fine as the cost of doing business.” “But for the pipeline monitoring efforts of Atchafalaya Basinkeeper and Healthy Gulf, and Peter Aaslestad’s initial willingness to stick his neck out to protect landowner rights, we may not have made it this far,” said Misha Mitchell, attorney with Atchafalaya Basinkeeper and co-counsel for the landowners who worked with Peter Aaslestad to enjoin unlawful construction on the property prior to the expropriation filing. Today we proudly reopened and rededicated the Sports Museum of Dutchess County and the official reopening to our families and public of our amazing Carnwath Farms Historic Site & Park. Thanks to the tremendous and unanimous support of our Town Board, elected Officials, The Board of the Sports Museum And especially Dan Cavaccini and our Town Historian Joey Cavaccini, this great day could not have happened. We literally had to take the Museum out of the throes of neglect of the previous administration to get where we are today. And, thanks to our previous Supervisors who were in attendance today, Connie Smith, Joe Ruggerio and Barbara Gutzler, who had tremendous vision and have helped me along the way. All of Our Board turned out - Bill Beale (in spirit because of a family matter), Angela Bettina, Mike Kuzmicz and Chris Phillips. So too was our Highway Superintendent, and the Town Clerk’s Office, represented by Deputy Clerk. Our Deputy Supervisor, Kevin Hathorn attended as did Wappinger Republican Party Chariman, Al Casella. Just over two weeks ago the world lost one of the best humans. In the midst of all of the chaos and turmoil and divisiveness and sickness and fear and politics and pain - the world stopped one day and my dear friend Mahtab passed from this realm to the next. She had danced her dance with cancer for nearly two years and she did it with grace and love and purpose and courage. Since that day I’ve been in between, really. In between sadness and now. In between purpose and nothing. In between everything there is to do and no focus or desire to do it. If you didn’t know Mahtab you missed out on one of the smartest, most ethical, most hard-working, most generous, decent, loving, curious, driven, wisest humans who ever lived. I first met Mahtab years ago when she was involved with the Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association. She was so poised and articulate that I was completely intimidated. I thought she was too smart, too together, too buttoned-up, too cerebral - to ever have any interest in me. We passed one another at industry events. We’d exchange friendly hellos. But I was too insecure to believe that I was good enough to be Mahtab’s friend. Turns out, I’m a fool. Over the years, Mahtab became one of my closest confidantes and dearest friends. She was kindred. A soul connection. I took for granted all of the late-night walks, the lengthy text exchanges, the dinners and lunches, the processing of work issues, and her guidance through all of the shifts in friendships and business relationships, and families and life. I took for granted that her wisdom and logic and calm demeanor would always be within reach. I never considered for a minute that Mahtab and I wouldn’t know each other into old age - each of us internet elders aging gracefully, or not. So, when Mahtab told me she’d been diagnosed with cancer just 23 months ago - I immediately burst into tears. My initial response was so selfish I was ashamed. I said ‘But, Mahtab. I feel like I just found you!’ In the last two years before Mahtab left us I realized a few things. I realized that friendship, in whatever form it takes, however long it lasts, however it manifests, is a tremendous gift. People come in - @nylons on Instagram

We have exciting news to share! First off, we want to thank everyone who has supported El Fuego throughout the past 2 years. We are very grateful to have watched El Fuego grow every day, from having a blank white wall to a beautiful art piece that symbolizes El Fuego’s existence! As may of you have heard, we are moving on from our old location. It is tough to leave the memories of the old building behind, but we are also very excited for the future! El Fuego’s NEW location down the road at 3917 Gallatin Pike Nashville TN 37216, will be opening THIS THURSDAY, July 30th! We will continue to do to-go orders only to ensure optimum safety for the time being. But we will now have a lovely outdoor space and ample picnic tables for you! Each day this week I will wear the same little black dress just as some babies have to wear the same diaper for more than one day, because their family is unable to afford them. Last week, Jim Wrinn retired from the Norwalk PD where he served as a dispatcher for over 20 years. Jim achieved a multitude of personal and professional accomplishments over the years: Veteran of the US Army, City of Norwalk Parade Marshal, a Moderator of Elections in Norwalk. He has also served as: President and VP of the Norwalk Athletic Association, VP of Norwalk Youth Football, President of Norwalk Cal Ripen Baseball, President of Norwalk Girls Basketball board member of Norwalk Pop Warner Cheerleading. Jim has also coached Norwalk Youth Football, Cal Ripen Baseball, Norwalk Girls Basketball, and Norwalk Junior Soccer.
