If you read the story of the day yesterday, you already know Fia made a huge batch of bourbon apple butter a couple of days ago. (This one is ‘a very short story’ & like almost everything we do, it’s available in any gender you prefer. At Flying Edna.) . Id already imagined a morning filled with the perfume of warm buttered toast & great swaths of apple butter. There was happiness burbling in the air... . So, as soon as I rolled out of bed, I jumped in the car & zoomed off to @WildCrumb, our favorite bakery. . It was closed. For cleaning. (Who in their right mind cleans before you have toast? Exactly. No one I know.) . It was not a happy time. . Except on the way home, the clouds sprawled in lazy arcs across the sky, settling themselves comfortably for what the day would bring. I’ve come to believe that the human spirit is one of the strongest things in existence. It’s just incredible what people can accomplish, endure and/or recover from! People get down on humans all the time, focusing on the destruction, the pain, the negativity, but how about the resourcefulness, the kindness, the generosity and hope! We tend to focus on the bad but I want to be someone that focuses on what people can do, what we will do if we choose. There is a strength in us, in you and me. Ganesh Chathurti 2020 (Part 3 of 3) It is one of my favourite times of the year, when Gannu Bappa comes home. This year of course it was different due to Covid19 but nevertheless we enjoyed him being home. We stuck to theme which we all relate to and now live by,so much so that even Gannu Bappa had his own mask!!! He was created purely out of chocolate because we definitely prioritise environment safety!!! I have been blessed with such beautiful friends, whom I call my family, who made sure came to visit my Gannu Bappa (Taking all precautions) and celebrating him!!! I thought I’d have Gannu Bappa home just for 3 days, but of course I got so attached to him I kept him home longer and on the 7th day we immersed him in milk and distributed the chocolate milk as prashad. They say that comparison is the thief of joy but I think it’s the killer of empathy too. When we talk about comparison we tend to be referring to watching other people’s happiness, wealth, lifestyle - basically all their highs in life and their blessings. So yes obviously that’s going to make you miserable if you’re comparing all that with what ‘little’ you have. You guys already know what I think of that.. we talk about gratefulness literally every week. But when we also look at others and think that their lows and problems are not as big as ours, we lose our empathy. Everyone’s going through something and it may be different to yours but that’s currently the biggest deal to them, that’s all they know and that’s their experience. It may very well be true that you are going through something ‘worse’ but why are we even trying to one-up each other on our difficulties? I really think it comes from a heart that’s lacked kindness from others. One that’s longing to be understood and heard. Now more than ever we need to develop our empathy and our kindness towards each other. It’s the way the Prophet (saw) was even to his enemies and it’s scary to think we’re losing that high level of emotional intelligence. To anyone going through something, just know you aren’t alone. We’re all fighting battles you don’t see. And your hardships may feel all-consuming right now but it’s not going to be that way forever. You will pull through, just like you always do. I remember I was working through some dark stuff even during this 👆🏼trip. A simple haiku for a #SimpleSaturday. I am fascinated by the way different poem structures inspire different topics. Haikus are a well known poem format, Japanese in origin, 3 lines with a 5 - 7- 5 syllable pattern. What I remembered recently is that they are intended to be about nature, so looking back on these I wrote many years ago, I understand why theres so much nature in them. Let’s start with a quick rundown of all the AWESOME things I am grateful for right now My Strong and Flexi Online Yoga Program is being released next weekend! 👏 I just completed the Animal Flow Level 1 Certification Program 👏 I have a supportive boyfriend who is building a successful business for himself 👏 We have our own place 👏 I’ve been picking up side work nannying again 👏 I’m selling my homemade AIP foods and homemade all natural body products 👏 Meanwhile The apartment we moved into was infested with bugs 😱 We had to crash with friends again, which of course we all know Josh and I are great at since we’ve hopped around for years. Only this time we have STUFF and specific locations and times we have to work. Huge redirect of energy around this to pull off all of the above ^^^ It would be cool to pretend everything is going off without a hitch and I’m handling it all easily but I’m not. I’ve had a few breakdowns, I’m stressed. The biggest stressor being lack of sleep. Whether it’s from not being able to sleep because I think bugs are going to crawl on me or not getting to bed until ungodly hours due to work projects, house hopping on repeat. Being auto-immune, my sleep is my lifeline. I HAVE to have that time for my body to heal or it’s bad news. Now, I’m not here for a pity party (okay fine I had a little pity party for myself today but I mostly blame that on menstrual hormones that have me feeling all kinds of ways, including pain which is just the kicker on all of this) but I am here to remind myself and all of you that THE WAY OUT IS THE WAY THROUGH. We really do learn from adversity and challenges, it’s times like these that we become our strongest, toughest, smartest selves. Instead of having a pity party and then giving up because this is HARD AF, I have a hard day, I talk it out or cry it out or whatever and then I KEEP ON GOING because it will never get easier until it’s fully tackled and I’ve learned all that I can from this to be able to apply it further in life and just keep on with my successes. | BALANCE The word balance keeps coming up in conversation. Many people I know are experiencing extremes right now. This photo was taken in Big Sur, right before the fires started. My heart is with the humans who have been impacted. My heart cries for Earth, too. But a part of me knows how powerful she is, how resilient she is. Do I believe we can love her better, absolutely. Do I experience rage when I witness carelessness in how we treat Earth? 100%. And yet I fully trust in her ability to heal. 🌍 Okay back to Balance. How do you know when life feels balanced? I can tell you how it feels when life seems out of balance. How it feels when Ive consumed too much or stared at zoom for too long. When Ive gone to an edge. Can you feel balance as its happening? Consider balancing on one foot. Which by the way, I am doing a lot these days because I busted a toe dancing in my living room. 😳 Balance is dynamic. In one moment I am still. In the very next Im wobbly and frantically reach out for a wall. I wonder if balance is not so much the destination but rather feedback for how we can navigate through life. Ritual has been integral in cultivating a sense of balance. Cultivating a practice of sacred ritual continues to show me how to release attachment. How to release the grasp of wanting to feel something different. In Ritual I can breathe easy and release attachment to knowing. When I was in Big Sur during a ritual, I (re)commited to my creativity. I was missing discipline. Since that ritual I started doing The Artists Way and I can feel creativity come online. I’ve been inspired to create new offerings. Like the Sensuality of Singing. This reflection is particularly interesting because it helps us see what belief really needs to be addressed. Don’t stop with the first obvious answer. Go several layers into the inner needs. There is something being served by holding on to any bad habit. For example, let’s say your worst habit is having a nightly drink. The first obvious answer is that it fulfills the need to relax. Going a level deeper, the need to relax is actually a need to create more balance in life between work and self-care. Beneath that is the need to be more self-honoring with your time commitments, acknowledging your needs as equal to those of whom you love and care for. Beneath that is the need to realize your worth regardless of whether you are doing for others. Look at all of the beliefs that go along with the habit. This habit will repeat until you go to the deepest level of need you identified and choose a new belief to honor that need. In this case, “I am worthy of self-care and life balance.” As you embody this truth, then you will find more soul-nourishing ways to honor the original need to relax. Nawet Ona sama 😉Zawsze mówiłam sobie: „MOGĘ to zrobić!” 💪🏼 Kształcę się (stąd studia z psychologii), medytuję, jeżdżę na warsztaty uczyć się od Przewodników jak prowadzić siebie i innych. Po prostu nabieram doświadczenia (ćwicząc, praktykując!). Oczywiście przeżywam chwile i triumfów, i porażek, ale kiedy na koniec dnia czytam: „Dziękuję za to, co robisz”, czuję, że jestem we właściwym miejscu 🙏🏼 Wszechświat i Bóg zawsze Cię poprowadzi jeśli tylko pozwolisz ❤️ . . Nigdy nie wyrażaj zgody na to, żeby inni oceniali Twój potencjał i decydowali o tym, do czego się nadajesz, a do czego nie 🙏🏼 Nieważne, czy robią to z troski, czy z zawiści. Rób to co kochasz, próbuj, rozwijaj skrzydła 🦋Pokaż wszystkim, na co Cię stać.
