Speciale Chiesa di San Secondo a Cortazzone Archi scolpiti: uno diverso dallaltro La chiesa di San Secondo a #Cortazzone (#Asti, #Piemonte, #Italia) è una chiesa #romanica del secolo XII, con la facciata in parte manomessa da un rialzamento e un campaniletto in mattoni. Conserva complessivamente le sue forme primitive. #Orientata in direzione Est-Ovest secondo la tradizione romanica, con la facciata rivolta verso occidente ha dimensioni contenute, 16 metri di lunghezza per 8 di larghezza. Fu parrocchia sin quando il paese si trasferì sul colle vicino. L’esterno rivestito in arenaria locale presenta su tutto il perimetro una decorazione ad archetti pensili con fantasiose decorazioni e raffigurazioni zoomorfe e fitomorfe tipicamente romaniche oltra a rappresentazioni antropomorfe originali, molto realistiche sia pur nella rozzezza della fattura. 🇮🇹 Qual è l’origine della Villa Pinciana e dei suoi tesori? Abbagliati da tanta bellezza, scopriamo che essa fu creata per stupire ed essere ammirata, per ricreare l’animo dei suoi visitatori. Scipione Borghese dedicò le sue migliori energie alla realizzazione della Villa, destinata alla magnifica collezione di sculture. Accumulò con determinazione opere d’arte dei grandi artisti del tempo e del passato, per acquisto diretto o con mezzi più disinvolti, come il sequestro, la minaccia, il furto. Non mancò di essere abile mecenate e protettore di pittori e scultori che, come nel caso illustre di Bernini, diedero avvio a una nuova pagina dell’arte proprio in casa Borghese. Nel Settecento, la villa conobbe quella veste spettacolare di cui ancora oggi possiamo godere, con gli apparati decorativi voluti dal principe Marcantonio IV. Dopo la sua morte, il figlio Camillo vendette, malauguratamente, al cognato Napoleone più di 500 straordinarie sculture antiche, ma acquisì alcuni veri capolavori, come l’immortale ritratto della sposa Paolina. ◆◆◆ 🌐 What is the origin of the Villa Pinciana and its treasures? Dazzled by such beauty, we learn that it was created to amaze and to be admired, to regenerate the spirit of visitors. Scipione Borghese devoted his best energies to the realization of the Villa, destined to hold the magnificent collection of sculptures. With great determination he accumulated works by the great artists of the time and of the past, either buying them directly or through more unscrupulous means such as confiscation, threats and theft. He was however also an able patron and protector of painters and sculptors, which, as in the illustrious case of Bernini, gave rise to a new chapter in art in the Borghese household itself. In the eighteenth century, the villa assumed the magnificent guise that can still be admired today, with the decorative schemes created at the wishes of Prince Marcantonio IV. After his death, his son Camillo unfortunately sold more than 500 extraordinary antique sculptures to his brother-in-law Napoleon, but also bought some true masterpieces, such as the immortal portrait of his bride Pauline. ph. Ornamental Garden Seat Limestone, 145 x 170 x 251 cm, carved by Indian craftsmen and students of Reay Art Workshop of Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, 1936, CSMVS, Acc. no. 36.1 This Ornamental Garden Seat was sculpted at the iconic Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, India. It is made of limestone, locally known as Porbandar stone that lends itself to carving of fine details. The object, depicting mythical figures, lotuses, peacocks, lions, swans and elephants, was stored in a dismantled state in 122 pieces some of which were broken. A team of stone conservators worked for over six months and the fragmented pieces were conserved, missing sections carved and reassembled. It now adorns the CSMVS Museum lawns, and is used as a case study to teach stone conservation to aspiring heritage preservation practitioners.
