Its hard to believe that its been almost 20 years since 9/11 and yet for everyone alive on that day it has been permanently carved into our memory. Almost every moment of that day is crystal clear for everyone who was around. For most of our audience it was THE event that propelled us into a career in medicine, the military, national security, law enforcement (and for most in GSMSG, a combination of those things). For many of us it is also hard to grasp that there are those who grew up entirely in a post 9/11 world. . . who dont really (or willingly choose not to) fully comprehend what that day did to America . . . . and because it is not clear to them, they cant, or choose not to, understand why we do what we do . .as a nation . . as a community . . and as an individual. This country has its flaws, but the freedom to just be free in the most fundamental sense to just live and let live and to exist and explore what these amber waves of grain have to offer. . . . along with your freedom to protest, shout, march and vote against it, and yet not have to worry about Novichok in your coffee, disappearing into a Chinese re-education camp, or Sarin gas being dropped into your village is ultimately what came under attack that day. Wanton mass death and oppression for any reason or no reason at all like on 9/11 is the opposite of what our country stands for. We will not stand for an attack on our way of life in our house. As @gruntstyle put it, This - we will defend. So YOUR job, for those who do remember, is to show them how great we can be. Explore this great country and its freedom with THEM. See and engage and embrace all walks of life, all faiths, all cultures, even if you dont agree with them. Embrace your kids, your family, and the community around you (*while social distancing***) and share ideas and thoughts on all topics, free of negativity and hate. In doing that you will show them how great this country and its freedom actually is. Then they will understand why we, so fiercely, will protect it and all it stands for to the ends of the earth. Some spare railroad parts wich were chemically treated caught fire during a very, very hot day, probably because of some plastic bottles thrown around them or some cigarette thrown randomly by someone. Obviously the fire spread as time went by pushing near a house and becoming a potential danger. It didnt take long for the firemen to put the fire out. My real problem here is with me and with the people in the same neighbourhood. Earlier that day I smelled plastic burning, but I didnt give it much attention because I thought maybe somebody was burning garbage (wich is not ok). Probably I or someone else went to investigate it, the fire would have been taken care of earlier. I think we all should start worrying about what surrounds us and pay more attention to the little details. •Nosebleeds• Nosebleeds (medical term: epistaxis) are a common reason that kids are referred to a hematologist. 👩🏼‍⚕️ Nosebleeds are usually caused by bleeding from a broken tiny blood vessel in the front part of the nose. 👃🏼 

They are very common in children. Risk factors for nosebleeds include environmental factors (dry air, cold weather ❄️ ), mechanical factors (nose picking, blowing nose too hard🤧, injury) and illnesses (colds🤒, allergies). Sometimes there isn’t a clear cause of nosebleeds.🤷🏾‍♂️ Nosebleeds can also be a sign of an underlying bleeding disorder. 🩸 If your child has frequent nosebleeds ( 5 per year) or prolonged nosebleeds (10 minutes), your doctor may recommend evaluation by a hematologist (especially if there are other family members with bleeding symptoms or a known bleeding disorder). 

While commonly people think they should tip their head back when they have a nosebleed, this just leads to swallowing blood. 🙅🏻 Blood is very irritating to the stomach 🤢, so can give kids a stomach ache and even cause them to vomit🤮. When your child has a nosebleed, pinch the nose where the nostrils meet the cartilage, and have them lead forward slightly. Although it is tempting, I always tell kids “don’t peek!”. ❌👀 You want to hold pressure on the nose for 5-10 minutes. Don’t check if the bleeding has stopped because this can dislodge the clot that is stopping the bleeding and make the nosebleed last longer‼️. You can also put a cold compress on the bridge of the nose. 🧊 To prevent nosebleeds, help to keep your child’s nose moist. You can use petroleum jelly (or olive oil) on the outside of the nostrils to keep moisture in. A MASSIVE explosion in Lebanons capital city Beirut has killed at least 100 people and injured nearly 4,000 others. The enormous blast could be heard some 125 miles away in Cyprus after it erupted in the port area of Beirut. 🔸What happened in Lebanon? The death toll in Beirut has risen to 100 after a huge explosion ripped through a port area. Lebanese health minister Hamad Hasan said I have never in my life seen a disaster this big, as 250,000 people were left homeless. Pictures showed buildings destroyed, people walking wounded, and a sea of wreckage after the blast that could be heard some 125 miles across the sea in Cyprus. Nearby buildings around the port have been leveled, windows and doors blown out, and fires continue to burn as smoke plumes billow across the Lebanese capital. 🔸What caused the Beirut explosion? The source of the blast is believed to be 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate which had been stored in a warehouse without safety measures since 2014. Security sources reportedly claimed a welder had sparked the initial fire that in turn ignited the chemicals - causing a blast the fifth the size of Hiroshima. Ammonium nitrate is mainly used as a fertilizer but has also been linked to terror attacks after being used in homemade bombs. Lebanons internal security chief Abbas Ibrahim has insisted that these were explosive materials rather than military-grade explosives. Security services there said the carnage may have been caused by a fire in a depot of highly volatile materials seized from a ship a few months ago and stored there. 🔸 What did the officials say about blast? Lebanon’s Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that those responsible for the explosion at a “dangerous” warehouse in Beirut port area that rocked the capital would pay the price. He said: “I promise you that this catastrophe will not pass without accountability. As we were preparing to welcome everyone back to town around 9 AM, Engine 2310 and Water Tender 2350 responded mutual aid to Zayante Fire for a structure fire that spread to the vegetation. Units arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire. In all, the size of the fire was contained to less than an acre in size. This was no doubt a scare to all the folks of Lompico, who just finally came home the day prior. While the Sheriff’s Office initially started evacuations in the area, residents were allowed to almost immediately return home. 2020 is certainly been one heck of a year...and we are ready for 2021! It’s 4 am on September 11th and as I sit in a fire engine on a Wildland fire in Southern California looking for hot spots I think of the phrase “never forget”.   19 years ago on September 11th I was studying to become a paramedic and didn’t realize my path was leading me to become a firefighter. After that day it was clear to me that the war I knew of good vs evil from back home was now here in the USA. You see as a young Jewish kid I was very familiar with the phrase “never forget” my family was nearly completely exterminated by the nazis and if it wasn’t for my grandmother being the sole survivor of her family my whole family wouldn’t be here today. It’s because of this I don’t take the term never forget lightly.   So to my fellow first responders and country: May we never forget the tremendous loss of first responders and civilians that day. May we never forget the families they left behind. May we never forget that we must constantly train to be ready for the next challenge. May we never forget that evil still exists and wants to harm us. May we never forget that as first responders this job has never been about us, but about serving others. May we never forget that it doesn’t matter how good the technology and equipment we have, it still boils down to us being able to make critical decisions under stress. May we never forget the traditions of our brotherhood. May we never forget why we signed up to do this job. Or wrong?⁠ ⁠ I would tell any IC - if you don’t know where your crews are, or you can’t control where they are and what they’re doing, PULL THEM OUT OF THE BUILDING. It you can’t control the scene - you are not in command, you’re just responsible. And who wants to be responsible for something you can’t control?⁠ ⁠ Chiefs - if you have to micromanage crews on the fireground, or if you’re having performance issues with your crews, you’re failing at your job before the run even comes in. 90% of fireground success happens in the firehouse. Preparation & expectations.⁠ ⁠ Still, this is a two way street. I hear all the time FF’s & officers insist - “Chiefs gotta trust their guys - let them work”.⁠ ⁠ We’ll talk about the Chief’s side of this tomorrow… But I have seen officers that are total CLOWNS (and don’t know it) who demand blind “trust”. Yet they’re liabilities on the fireground and can’t be counted on to do their job inside the box let alone “think outside of it”. ⁠ ⁠ Trust is a two way street. If you’re having trust issues with your Chief, you’ve got to ask yourself first - have you EARNED the trust of your Chief? You can’t just EXPECT to have it, you have to work for it and maintain it.⁠ ⁠ For companies - the number 1 thing that builds trust of a crew in a Chief’s head is REPUTATION. Individual/company performance reputation. And a reputation for GOING WHERE THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO GO AND DOING THEIR JOB - whether that job is “sexy” or not. Tactical discipline.⁠ ⁠ Little makes an IC more uncomfortable than FREELANCING. Especially when conditions are rough, when an IC feels like they’re losing control of an incident - they’re going to pull you out of the building.⁠ ⁠ SO if you don’t want that - take your assignment. Do your job, well. Don’t be an accountability issue. If you see somewhere else you need to be or something else you need to do - make a sales pitch to the chief. If you’re right, and the chief trusts you - they’ll give you the green light.⁠ ⁠ But if you want that trust - you’ve got to be earning it on previous jobs, small incidents, on the drill ground, and in the firehouse. - @nmartin33 on Instagram

Incêndios: Homem suspeito de atear dois fogos em Ponte da Barca detido pela PJ A Polícia Judiciária deteve um homem suspeito de ter ateado dois incêndios numa freguesia de Ponte da Barca, distrito de Viana do Castelo, que consumiram cerca de 15 hectares de floresta e terreno inculto. Em comunicado, a Polícia Judiciária (PJ) de Braga refere que o suspeito, de 48 anos, foi detido na terça-feira, fora de flagrante delito. With empty highways, airports & offices, critical infrastructure projects around the United States were completed ahead of schedule, more efficiently and cost effectively. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 📍 Unexpected access to large segments of the street at a time accelerated work on @metrolosangeless subway extension project by at least 6 months... ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 📍@delaware_gov was able to complete multiple highway projects worth a total of nearly $100 million during the first half of 2020... ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 📍 @my_fdot announced in April that it would expedite more than $2 billion worth of critical infrastructure projects...⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ There is no silver lining to the pandemic. Theres still much to be done to improve our economy and our countrys infrastructure in the wake of this years unprecedented disruptions. Covid_19 adds a new dimension of risk to the job for firefighters - both on and off the front lines. Fire crews are already armed with significant personal protective equipment while theyre battling active fires which includes gloves, face and neck shrouds, and protective eyewear. When they are at base camps, firefighting personnel are required to wear face masks and maintain physical distancing. Meals are staggered to keep crews separated, and everyone gets regular temperature checks. The crews, which number in the hundreds, would ordinarily set up base camp on small grounds near the fires, but due to COVID-19 concerns, they are housed in hotels or set up on vacant fairgrounds outfitted with several hand-washing stations.
