En el nuevo emplazamiento se convierte en el establecimiento de mayor lujo de ese tiempo en Rosario. One of Memphis’s most unique museums was originally built as a residence for Clarence Saunders, founder of Piggly Wiggly, the first self service grocery store chain. It was dubbed the “Pink Palace” by Memphians due to the pink hue of the marble used to construct it. After spending over $1 million on its construction, Saunders lost his fortune and never lived in the house. The house and surrounding 10 acres were given to the city, and the museum opened in 1930. Learn more about the history of Pink Palace at our Virtual Preservation Series on Wednesday, September 16 at 6pm! Colegio La Salle La Colina Al comenzar la década de 1940, el #ColegioDeLaSalleDeCaracas (actualmente conocido como #TiendaHonda), resultaba insuficiente para la cantidad de solicitudes de inscripción que recibía. Es entonces cuando se piensa en la posibilidad de abrir una sucursal para aliviar el congestionamiento de La Salle #Caracas. Se buscó un terreno hacia el Este, propiedad del urbanista #LuisRoche, en el sector denominado #LaColina, de la nueva urbanización #LosCaobos, donde ha funcionado hasta el día de hoy. El hermano #GastónElie, director de Tienda Honda, compró el terreno el 7 de septiembre de 1942 y de inmediato se dio a conocer el proyecto. Se comienzan los primeros movimientos de tierras en diciembre de 1943 y el primer edificio, de #ArquitecturaModerna, estuvo listo tal día como hoy 25 de septiembre del año 1944 para recibir a los 89 alumnos fundadores. El 16 de diciembre de ese mismo año se bendijo e inauguró el nuevo edificio en donde funciona actualmente Media General (4to y 5to Año) La participación de la Iglesia se hizo presente en la inauguración del colegio en la persona del excelentísimo Dr. Lucas Guillermo Castillo Arzobispo Coadjuntor de Caracas y el Dr. Pedro Pablo Tenseiro, Obispo titular de Ortossia, contando con la participación del Dr. Lorenzo Fernández como orador de orden. Hasta el año 1947 funcionó como extensión de Tienda Honda, en ese año se establece como una institución autónoma: el #ColegioLaSalleLaColina; su primer Director y Fundador fue el Hermano Gastón Elie. This slide of a perspective drawing by Helmut Jacoby of Norman Fosters proposed extension to the Whitney Museum, New York (late 1970s) pictures the remarkable giant triangulated structure that acted as a rigid base for the tower rising above. In contrast to Breuers earlier building, Norman Foster wanted the new Whitney galleries to be open, with a full-height glazed atrium giving on to Madison Avenue. #CavalierGhostStories Stories of guests having a sense about the historic Cavalier have been recounted for decades. A sixth floor sense, that is. The founder of the Coors Beer empire, Adolph Coors, mysteriously fell to his death from a sixth floor window in 1929.
