Within minutes of opening my feed on IG, it’s guaranteed I’m going to run across some sort of parenting advice. There has never been so much information and inspiration right at the tip of our fingers... the mama community on here is strong, and we love to encourage and support each other. But it can be overwhelming too... besides the posts, memes and stories on IG, there are all the books, blogs, podcasts, Pintrest boards, and so on. The parenting advice world is as deep as it is wide, and you could never take it all in. But that’s okay. Because the truth is that none of it is perfect. There’s no illusive parenting resource you haven’t found yet that will magically fix all your parenting woes. But there is Jesus. And what He gives us is down right miraculous when you think about it. You see, The Holy Spirit gives us discernment and wisdom for all this information we are soaking up, equipping us moment by moment how (or if) to apply it to our kids and our life. He fuels us up so we have energy (and deep well springs of love) so we can give, He gives power to our actions and words, and He gives us peace so we can rest in our decisions. When we loose our sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, everything else starts falling out of line… our big picture perspective, our priorities, our decision making, our surrender. Although it can happen in a dramatic moment, more often it happens slowly one decision at a time. This is why the most important part of your day as a mom is not “self-care”, but “soul-care”. It’s connecting with the Holy Spirit, tuning your heart to be sensitive to his leading throughout the day… because if you are abiding with Him, he can take our worst moments and efforts and work them for both our good and the good of those around us. [SWIPE] I’ve seen people arguing this week about using this time to gain a new skill, do something you’ve always wanted to do vs. we’re in a crisis and people need to worry about their health first And both can be right. What’s true and what’s always been true is that we all are different, have different goals, and different circumstances. There are people who are sick, people who are on the front lines, people who are working from home, people whose jobs shut down, but they’re still getting paid people who are laid off , people who are suddenly figuring out homeschooling their kids, entrepreneurs figuring out their next steps We all should use this opportunity. But that looks like different things for different people. For some, it DOES require new discipline, new creations, and buckling down on things we tucked away for “one day” For others it’s a time of rest. Others a time of play. Others it’s learning how to reconnect with family. For others, it’s a combination of all of the above It’s about what YOUR soul is calling you to do. The ones who survive and thrive during this are the ones who choose to expand during this time. Expanding in whatever their soul is designed for. And expanding can look like so many things... it could be learning a new skill but it could also be working on emotional regulation, continuing to spend money, allowing yourself to grieve, or take up a new meditation practice Expansion is NOT prolonged escapism. Hoping things go back to “normal” Not connecting with yourself So do what you’re actually called to do during this time.
