A beautiful picture of a cell we injected today in my lab with a fluorescent dye. This is a Broad thorny retinal ganglion cell (species: common marmoset/callithrix jacchus), a type of neuron located in the retina. These neurons help provide us with our sense of sight and are involved in a number of complex processes mediated through our visual neural circuitry. Cells like this one are involved in processes such as “visual pursuit” which guides our eyes as they focus on different or moving targets. For reference, this cell has a diameter of approximately 300 um, or about 3/10 of a mm.
