After 12 weeks, 21.4 pounds, over 1million steps, 4 audio books and 1 week of holidays later. I feel amazing. Fitting into old pants, sleeping better, feeling balanced mentally and having more energy is just the tip of the iceberg during this time. ⁣Firstly, understand running is the purest form of physical exercise a human can pursue. ⠀ ⠀ So here’s my advice to you; ⠀ Running, in my opinion is an art where the body and mind can interlink, a sense of synchronisation. However, in creating this art, you must firstly be kind to your body. Acknowledge that if you do not identify the difference between negative pain and positive pain, will only create underlying issues in the very near future. Negative pain, being a source of inflicting damage to the body. Positive pain, being a source of you pushing your body to new performance heights. Make sense? ⠀ ⠀ This is why I purposely remind my athletes that developing a cognitive flow in your training, is possibly the smartest and most joyful way to improve aerobic performance. Cognitive flow put simply, is taking a less is more approach to your training, applying a strong focus on a longer term plan, and building upon greater consistency. As opposed to searching for short term highs that may result in you red lining your body 2, 3 maybe in some cases 4 times per week. ⠀ ⠀ Establishing this cognitive flow in your runs will undeniably build a greater momentum in your training that overtime will become harder to stop due to an improvement in your physical fitness, but more importantly the development of a stronger ‘will power’ in your mind to uphold the inevitable outcome of ‘positive pain’ that is created in workouts. Above all, I strongly believe with the consistency you’ve laid down, you create this inner belief and utter confidence that will scare your old personal bests due to them becoming fully aware their on a time limit to be replaced with a quicker times very soon. ⠀ ⠀ Yes, there are times to red line the body in training, but not always. Yes, there are times to miss a run, to aid in further recovery from the stress you’ve created. The message I’m trying to instill here, is to listen to the body more frequently. Be kind to it. This is a photo is me carrying all my equipment to a park so I could train clients (because I couldn’t afford the gym rent anymore).⁣ ⁣ 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟔: Against the wishes of an old mentor, I started this thing called a podcast. As of 2020, it’s on its way to over 4 million downloads and has allowed me to connect with people I never thought possible.⁣ ⁣ 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕: I got turned down by every publisher I went to with my book and had to self publish it. Eu te respondo: - provavelmente (quase certeza) que NÃO! - 🤔 Ué, mas é nítida a diferença... - Eu sei, mas muito disso aí foi retenção líquida indo embora também. Apesar de comer de forma saudável em 70-80% das vezes, eu dei meus deslizes e relaxei na ingestão de água (essa eu tava errando feio!!). Além disso eu tava me exercitando 2 a 3x por semana, é pouco. Agora passei para 5-6x. Não comi NADA fora da dieta (um dia apenas eu comi 2 mini pães de queijo, dá +-50g, mas usei eles no lugar do carbo do pré treino e fui me exercitar logo depois. Ou seja, eu comi pouco e usei a meu favor). Foi só isso, gente. Não tô usando pré treino (só café puro mesmo), não tô tomando chás diuréticos, nada!! Só limpei a minha alimentação e aumentei meu gasto calórico. Só fiz aeróbico um dia da semana. Ainda não vou aumentar. Daqui uma semana vou ver como meu corpo vai responder. Se eu perceber que estagnei eu aumento a intensidade dos exercícios. Isso fatalmente vai acontecer. Faz parte. Aerobiose tem outros benefícios tbm. Ainda preciso melhorar o meu sono, tenho dormido pouco (+-5h) pra dar conta de algumas tarefas e estudos. Mais uns dias e vou conseguir regular a agenda e dormir mais cedo 🙏🏼. Preciso MUITO disso. - Enfiem na cabeça de vocês de uma vez por todas: NÃO TEM FÓRMULA MÁGICA, NÃO TEM SEGREDO, NÃO TEM MISTÉRIO. Faz a coisa certa, segura as pontas, segura a vontade de comer por ansiedade, não negocie com a sua mente. I knew stepping back onto the track would be a challenge, a challenge that I am still stoked to take on again soon. What I didn’t anticipate was how tough it would be just under a mile in. ⁣ ⁣ After a tough close to my collegiate track career in the spring of 2018 I knew I needed to go get some blood work done. At the time anything at or under 5k pace was tough to hit and maintain over a mile, unfortunately it still applies. My blood test back in 2018 confirmed what my trainers, coaches and I thought. I was dealing with a form of anemia; something that I have now been dealing with for the better part of two years, and a blood test the week after @runmcdc confirmed that it’s still something I need go straighten out if I want to maximize my potential in this sport. ⁣ ⁣ Since moving to Colorado I credited going anaerobic in workouts to being up at altitude and not the root of the problem. I unfortunately had similar blood levels before the Olympic Trials, during the summer of 2019, and even prior to my marathon debut in December of 2018. Marathon specific work and threshold work did and still does come effortlessly even at altitude. It’s when I press below that pace I start to feel the effects of my low red blood cell count. My first two cracks at the marathon have been a 2:16:10 PR and a 61st place finish at the Olympic Marathon Trials, I cannot wait to see what’s possible when my numbers get back up.⁣ ⁣ Have only been in Boulder one month but I already have an immense amount of support from my teammates, @tinmancoach, training staff, and mentors to finally put every single piece of the puzzle together. He weighed 265#. He was eating barely anything. So. He needed to loose weight right? But if eating less was truly accurate of weight loss, then how could he eat less than 900 Cals ? 😳 And not suffer malnutrition? He was already malnourished, his metabolism was at a dead stop. Understanding that he had done nothing until this point to build any sort of body underneath. And he didnt wanna be skinny. We worked for 14 months reversing him from 900 Cals up to 5400 Cals. He went from eating 1 meal a day to 6. And now that we have taken the time to build shape. ( And hell....we lost 90# by stuffing our face....he had MONSTER cheat meals. About 2 years ago I got inspired by my good friend @eli_wolfa to get healthy and take my life back. I couldn’t keep up with my son and my energy levels and mental clarity was at an all time low. At first I had no idea what to do so I baby stepped in the gym and fumbled my way to a better diet. 2 years, hours of research, countless hours in the gym, and a complete overhaul of my eating and drinking habits later I am down 70 pounds. “I don’t want to lift weights, it will make me bulky.” Another PT was told “do I look like a weightlifter to you?” Let me tell you I’ve been lifting for the most part of the last 6 years (if you want to be super pedantic, 4.5 years). Of those 4.5 years, I had been lifting for about 10 hours per week minimum. Now tell me how bulky I look. If lifting some weights automatically makes you bulky, every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes through the gym will look jacked. Lifting weights do not make you bulky. Do you know what makes you bulky? That bag of chips you inhaled in one sitting. That tub of ice cream you mindlessly ate during a 2 hour movie. That bottle of wine and entire cold platter you had on a Sunday sesh. What lifting weights really does: ✔️build muscles to give you the shape you want (lose the layer of fat and that’s what gives you the ‘toned’ look everyone is after. ✔️ increase your metabolism ✔️ increase bone density Everyone young and old benefit greatly from resistance and weight training. Trust me, when you’re in your 70s or 80s, you’ll wish you had learnt to squat to parallel so you can get off the couch without assistance. Progress is Perfection- @silk . It has been a long month🥵! I pushed myself further than I thought I could💪🏾. Thank you @jusbmore before giving me the challenge. No meat🥩, no dairy 🧀, no pasta 🍝, no rice🍚, no potatoes🍟, cut down on sugar and salt. Water, water, and more water. Moral of the story: it was HARD! But I went from 193lbs to 175lbs🙌🏾. Viele Leute sind sich nicht bewusst, dass man durch das regelmäßige Trizeps-Training auch die hinteren Schultern und den Rücken stärkt.💪🏼 2. Currently in my 3rd reverse diet in my fitness journey! I started counting macros about 4 years ago but wasn’t consistent. Followed many fed diets like whole30 & was eating low carb, low protein, and too many fats. ⁣ ••••⁣ From the left that was my first progress photo I sent to my current coach, @sdangerfit … September, 2018!!⁣ I came to her doing an hour+ of cardio a day, barely lifting and under eating. I came to her yo-yo dieting & new I was overtraining. At that time I was doing competitive cheer, school cheer and running. Although my goal was to lose fat & tone up, a reverse diet was NEEDED to restore metabolism, and focus on building muscle so when I did lose some fat, “tone up” there would be visible muscle. I reversed / got up to maintenance for 8 months & began my first cut spring / into summer 2019.⁣ ••••⁣ Middle photo was taken at the end of my “slight surplus” last February so 2020. I had reversed, maintained than wanted to build more muscle so entered about my maintenance at that time eating around 1750-1900- losely tracking. I stayed there for almost 6 months & built a GOOD amount of muscle!⁣ ••••⁣ Last photo on the far right side is me NOW mid September, 2 months into reverse and not quite up to maintenance. My plan is to stay here for the fall and into the winter most til April ish then possibly do a quick cut or a longer and slower approach like I did this past one! I am not sure if I will enter a slight surplus again but time will tell. IT IS possible to gain muscle at maintenance it is just harder and takes more time. ⁣ ••••⁣ Luckily, I had a lean, 4’11 frame. I have always had that athletic build so I tend to gain muscle quickly. ⁣ ••••⁣ Within these 3 photos I have only lost 8 lbs but have gained A LOT of muscle & confidence !!!⁣ Going from the girl that was scared to lift weights, started using 5 lb DBs to now bench pressing 35 lbs! ⁣ I have more lean muscle mass and a whole new body comp!!! Doing 1 day a week of cardio, 5 days of strength training, fueling my body properly AND eating MORE!!! É isso! Acabou! Projeto finalizado com sucesso, não poderia estar mais feliz e grato por todo esse tempo. Eu aprendi a confiar no processo, fazer o que tinha que ser feito pra não fazer loucura e cagar tudo no meio da parada como ja tinha feito por inúmeras vezes no passado. No finalzinho foi bem cansativo e me deixou no limite do que eu podia fazer mas durante o processo consegui conciliar minha vida social, trabalho e projetos tranquilamente, adaptando tudo que podia. Queria agradecer DEMAIS ao @vingramos por ter me auxiliado com TUDO e, por vezes, pegado na minha mão igual pai mesmo e me guiado pro caminho certo, acalmando minha cabeça (que tende a ser muito destrutiva e impulsiva quando o negócio bate no EGO). Non sembra neanche vero, ma è già passato esattamente un anno da quando ho deciso di andare via dalla mia città per fare delle esperienza di vita che non avrei potuto fare giù, assurdo come questo anno sia volato via, sinceramente mi sento molto cambiato dalla mia partenza.. Ho imparato cosa significhi stare alle regole del lavoro e fare dei sacrifici, che sia correre da solo alle 6 del mattino con - 10° o finire la sessione in palestra alle 10 per potersi allenarsi come si deve, mantenendomi economicamente, da solo, lontano dalla mia famiglia e dai miei amici. Quest anno ho conosciuto tantissime nuove persone che vivono di sport o vivono per lo sport, facendomi trasmettere le loro passioni e le loro sensazioni e viceversa, facendo tanti km uno accanto allaltro. Unaltra fortuna che ho avuto e stata conoscere a fondo @aledegasperi, passando quasi ogni giorno insieme allinterno e allesterno degli allenamenti, imparando quanto sia importante a volte fare delle cose anche contro voglia, anche se si è stanchi mentalmente o fisicamente, sotto la pioggia o sotto il sole cocente perché sono proprio quei momenti che faranno la differenza nei momenti difficili. Sportivamente parlando mi sento molto migliorato in tutte e tre le frazioni, ma ciò che questanno mi ha insegnato di più è stato avere il coraggio di andare via da una meravigliosa città e andare in un posto altrettanto stupendo come Predazzo nonostante tutti mi dicessero di non farlo perché non ne valeva la pena. 🤩 Race photo spam!! Finally got around to getting my race photos, and writing a wee bit of a race report!! I had the most amazing day at @ironmannz Going into my first Ironman, my goal was to have a consistent controlled race and it went almost exactly to plan, with a swim time of exactly what I wanted (1hr5mins), 2x evenly split 90km loops on the bike, and 3x evenly split 14km loops on the run. . 🏊‍♀️ Swim 3.8km 1:05:04 🚴‍♀️ Bike 180km 5:34:47 🏃‍♀️ Run 42km 3:58:27 💪 Total: 10:45:51 I came 5th/34 in my age group, and 147/1164 overall. It was awesome to have my parents @bronwyn_kirby and @richardkirby9414 , sister @de_nysee and @albie_trd there to support me, as well as the rest of the Mr Smiths IronTeam (you know who you are!!). Albie is the one thats done the hard yards this year, while Ive been busy training. Thank you for supporting me to follow my a̶d̶d̶i̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ dreams! ❤️ . This is my final race for the season (as remaining events being cancelled) so Im happy to go out on a high! I’ve seen a lot of these types of posts on IG lately.⁣ ⁣ And I’m so glad. ⁣ ⁣ Super shredded physiques and washboard abs are still really glorified and sought after, which is fine… but ⁣ ⁣ I want to bring awareness and reminder to the fact that for most people…. This is not going to be the place where you feel your best, or a place that is sustainable. ⁣ ⁣ I love my body at every phase and appreciate all its different forms, but I have to be honest, I always thought I’d be happy and feel good in my skin once I was leaner and had abs, I can honestly say it was the opposite for me. ⁣ ⁣ 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦, getting that lean required a level of sacrifice, food focus and mental preoccupation with my physique that I couldn’t maintain, nor would I want to. ⁣ ⁣ I was body checking every chance I got, obsessed with my calorie burn, obsessed with macros, had binge episodes and was completely inflexible. I hated “having” to travel or be social because it might disrupt my perfect execution of my protocols. ⁣ ⁣ I was also fucking freezing all the time and there is nothing I hate more than being cold. Lol. ⁣ ⁣ This isn’t a knock on competing. I love the sport and I will probably do it again someday. ⁣ ⁣ But those bodies aren’t meant to be lived in. They’re short term, too often sought after as being the end goal.⁣ ⁣ I definitely have my days where I’d like to be leaner, but right now, this body is a body I can do life in and actually enjoy it. Not stress about my protocols, say yes to spontaneous travel or social plans and just focus on being healthy and getting stronger. Or if you can even get there 👀⬇️🆘 ⁣post 2/6 Many people struggle to reach their goal weight and dont know why.⁣ ⁣ Things get tough and they give up, rebounding and gaining weight back even quicker than before, see my previous post for why this is and how this is killing your metabolism! Here we have 2 examples with the same % drops in weight but a very different starting positions. The first one is starting on a good amount of calories and therefore has room to make some drops along the way and ‘finish’ X weeks sustainably and reach their goal without having to go so low calories they end up quitting and bingeing. The 2nd example, a worse start point means your going to hit the floor of how long you want to go with food quickly meaning you probably won’t be able to diet for long enough to reach your end goal. Also if your training 6+ times per week you probably don’t have ‘the card to play’ of increasing calories burnt from training / cardio / steps. This means the only variable you’ve got to play with is reducing food. If youve yo yo cycled for a while and arent at your goal weight whilst on relatively low calories and high training/ cardio then its time to take a step back. Focus on health and building Metabolic rate higher with what we call a reverse diet.⁣ ⁣ Any questions on dieting, weight loss stalling or reverse dieting?? On Sunday, the riders of @onemorecity_ldn rolled back to their starting point in Kings Cross, London having completed the hardest edition of the event, ever. They crossed 14 counties and covered 750km. Conquering 7000m of climbing through the Peak District, Shropshire and Malvern Hills, strong winds, gnarly lanes, and a sprinkling of gravel and rural fields – although thankfully no rain this year – all in the name of funding research into secondary breast cancer. Restrictions meant that groups operated as bubbles, remaining in groups of six throughout. Despite this, great teamwork and camaraderie got everyone around and @maria.t.olssons beautiful kit made everyone smile when the road felt neverending. Crazy story about the moment that changed everything for me. Simple strokes take down huge oaks I have a good friend that played a huge part in shaping the man I am today (quite literally he helped my shape haha) As with most good friends it all started with some shit talking (about my weight). Which lead to us driving to a nearby high school field for me to prove that I could do a single pull up. I approached the bar with confidence, which quickly disappeared when I attempted to jump up and grab the bar. Not only could I NOT do a single pull up... I was barely able to grab the bar and hold on... In that moment I faced with a simple decision... a decision that lead me to where I am today. I could have used the shame and humiliation I felt to stay stuck... Or Admit and accept was I was and decided to move forward I decided to move forward.. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do.. but I was determined to NEVER feel this level of humiliation again. You may not always have the knowledge or skills you want to reach your goal but you can always take a small step forward toward learning and taking action on the things you CAN do. I could have said I can’t do this.. instead I ask what can I do... I continue to ask myself this simple question everyday What can I do? Doing so has allowed me to wake up and live a little better everyday. Do something simple today, tomorrow, the next day... You may not be able to change your entire life over night, I know I wasn’t able to but taking a small step that makes you smile just a little more can make a world of difference What’s the smallest thing you can do today that will make a difference? Being a Boilermaker meant having every resource available I needed to be successful, but that maybe those things weren’t quite as shiny as other people’s stuff. Our mascot describes people who threw coal into train engine burners after all, and this was before the current, beautiful athletic facilities (I always juuuuust missed new uniforms and perks growing up 🤦🏼‍♀️.) So the work was gritty and difficult and it was usually cold and I was far away from home and I got hurt multiple times and I struggled to keep a wide range of classes straight cuz I couldn’t decide on a major. . But the people. My fellow Boilermakers: Dodge Street residents. Athletes from other sports who’ve become lifelong friends. Athletic department administrators and support staff. @purduenutritionscience students and professors. Coach Zuyderwyk, all my incredible @purduethrows & @purdue_trackxc teammates. @boilergoldrush fellow staff and the freshmen who were in my groups that remain such uplifting voices in my life. @purduemortarboard, where I felt like I failed miserably but still got to learn from incredible peers. Purdue Athletic Trainers, who set me up for so many comebacks. So grateful that they were my introduction to sports medicine. . Every facet of Purdue, for me, was struggle and hard work, with a fabulous community around me. I had one early bout of homesickness, but otherwise loved my 5 years in West Lafayette. I made the best decision to go join the best people for me in a place that was big, but felt small. A school that had everything I could want, but wasn’t intimidating. I’ve gained a lot in the past 3 years. Not only muscle (and also fat), but so much more. I’ve gained life quality. I’ve gained self confidence, I’ve gained joy. Because I stopped obsessing about food. I’ve stopped obsessing about counting calories, I’ve stopped obsessing about whether eating out will fit my macros. I’ve started to prioritize my mental health, my physical performance and joy in life. Yea I do eat clean and healthy 80% of the time. Because it makes me FEEL GOOD, it nourishes my body, it gives me energy and it just tastes good as well. But I love going out for pizza and wine, spending spontaneous lunch dates with friends and having quality time with my loved ones. I’ve never been so strong and I’ve never felt so comfortable in my own body. This is just because I’ve stopped obsessing over food🙏🏼 You will never look back in life and ask yourself „why did I eat that delicious burger that one time“. No, you will remember the laughter you had with the people you love and the great night you have while eating that burger (you’ll probably not even remember the Burger). This is also, why I was able to gain so much muscle, why I got strong legs and a strong core. Because I’ve stopped obsessing and I’ve just started listening to what my body needs. Oh hey, it’s #transformationtuesday again! Some things never change, here I am 8 years apart, still on my phone 🤣🤣🤣 There is a big difference between those 2 people though. The one on the left was struggling on anti depressants and putting on a brave face. Every day felt like Groundhog Day, I was bogged down with my 2 little boys and I wasn’t hopeful for the future. There were some glimmers of happiness, 2012 brought the Olympics to my home town and a fun family holiday with my sister @sianysianyh who took that pic. But overwhelmingly I didn’t want to be around and didn’t know what to do about that. Thankfully I got help, I got out of my marriage that was bringing me down and I surrounded myself with positive supportive people. I also threw myself into cycling and got a rather special pink Bianchi. 💕💕💕 The photo on the right was taken by @george.galbraith 2 weeks ago during the InternationElles Plan B. I’m focussed, fit and happy. I’m also a much better Mum and a good example to my kids now. Thank you to everyone who keeps me in check, those of you who reach out to see if I’m doing ok, my family, my friends, my awesome team, my coach @willgirling and my love Rob. 😍🤠😍 You don’t need to suffer in silence, there is help out there and life is there for the living. Bloating is normal. Not having a flat belly all the time is normal. I didn’t magically gain a couple of kilos and neither did you. This does not make you weak, it does not make you lose your progress, and it does not make you less of an athlete. The athletes you follow don’t have a flat belly all the time. And neither does the Fitness Model you stalk on instagram. Being bloated because I maybe ate something weird, ate too much, am stressed, didn’t sleep enough or maybe just because I’m at a specific hormonal stage used to be a huge trigger for me. Having pain due to bloating and feeling like that every day is not normal and there can be a serious health matter. But if your stomach just isn’t flat all the time (which it really shouldn’t be, and if it is even after you eat you should definitely be eating more!) that’s normal! It doesn’t make you worse of a person, it doesn’t make you look pregnant and you defitnely shouldn’t beat yourself up about it. - @wearitblack_ on Instagram

Unless you’ve followed me for a little while or watched all of my stories, you probably don’t know much about my jump rope journey so I thought I’d share it... ➰ The pandemic has affected us all in different ways - some more than others. For me, I know it could be worse but, it shat on all my wedding plans from the hen do, to the big day and right through to what was meant to be the trip of a lifetime for our honeymoon. I then got furloughed - fantastic 🙄. ➰ To be honest I wallowed in my own self pity for a good couple of weeks. Then I randomly decided to buy a skipping rope. I’d admired the footwork-focussed skills of @carmelrodriguezfit for a while and decided to give it a go. My rope arrived on 13th April. ➰ I came across the likes of @mimiyouu and @jimmysaysrelax on Instagram followed by this whole world of freestyle jump rope and this growing community of jump ropers. Just a few days after receiving my rope, I decided to start this profile so I could connect with other jumpers, share my progress and get inspired. (My whole journey is on this profile if you ever fancy scrolling to the bottom ☺️) ➰ As cringe as this sounds, jump rope literally turned my life around in lockdown. It gave me a reason to get out of bed when I wasn’t working, it gave me something to focus on, it gave me satisfaction when working towards and unlocking new skills, it kept me healthy, it connected me with people around the world which gave me a sense of togetherness. ➰ 6 weeks of jumping rope flew by and I fortunately was welcomed back to work full time in June. Although I can’t jump anywhere near as much as I did when furloughed, I find it more important than ever to fit it in. With work being tougher than usual at the moment and the world still a very uncertain place, it really has become my therapy 😌 ➰ Going beyond the sport itself, the fact that so many of you now follow my journey and either get inspired by what I do or just simply feel uplifted watching my videos literally brings me so much joy.
