The most wide-ranging ban on plastic products and paper bags in the U.S. is only one step away from becoming law in New Jersey. The Assembly passed a bill Thursday that will enact several restrictions on everyday products in an effort to curb plastic pollution that has inundated New Jerseys beaches, riverfronts and water supplies. The Senate passed a similar version of the bill in early March, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now go to Gov. Phil Murphy for consideration. These “Slow Streets” would re-designate public streets with limited through car traffic to create space for people choosing to walk/bike/roll for transportation and exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of the Fresno City Council decided Thursday to send a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom to ask for permission to open indoor dining, and effectively killed a proposed approach to allow all businesses to open citywide. The letter’s supporters said it was the best way to work within the system and safely open restaurants and other businesses that are restricted under orders related to the coronavirus. The letter got a 5-2 approval from the council. Many businesses closed in March after local and state orders in response to the coronavirus pandemic. I’d make sure I was dressed up and dolled up for the ‘gram photos at my birthday parties. I’d care how many people reached out to me that day. But today is just another day in the fight for Black Lives now, albeit a day of a little more self-reflection. And I wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️ It’s hard to celebrate today when just yesterday, Breonna and her loved ones were not given justice. But I don’t believe in “justice” from our corrupt white supremacist and fascist system. I believe in the people’s justice, and I know we’ll get it for her. Rest in power, Breonna. We’ll keep fighting for you 🧡 The never-ending pain, injustices, and sorrow that Black people have experienced over the past 400 years in this country have radicalized me into a revolutionary. The liberation of Black people and abolition of all oppressive systems are the central focus of my life now, and it truly feels like my priorities have fallen into place 💛 But before I had this awakening, I had my family and friends teaching me what it means to be a decent human being. I need to thank them for their unconditional love and support. I am who I am today because of you all 💚 I also want to thank Tyler for showering me with healing love and care every day. Però això no és tot: estudis científics diuen que cada any hi ha 350 morts prematures a Barcelona per culpa de la contaminació. I si no hi fem res, això només anirà a pitjor. Per primer cop un ajuntament està donant passes decidides per reduir les emissions i fer una ciutat amb un aire més net, amb més espai per a les persones i els transports sostenibles. Ens trobem amb fortes crítiques a aquestes idees. Crítiques que venen per part dels grans lobbies dempresaris i la patronal, dels partits de dretes, i de les multinacionals que fan negoci amb els cotxes. Les seves crítiques senfoquen en anècdotes com el color de la pintura, o en mentides com que això va en contra de leconomia. Pot semblar una forma de distreurens del debat real, però el seu objectiu és molt més profund: volen atacar un urbanisme redistributiu que els treu privilegis, en pro de la salut i el benestar de la majoria.
