Luis Diaz, hands on the steering wheel, still thinks he’s controlling this broken in half race car rolling on its side... Today, digital cameras have almost limitless buffers and take cards that can store thousands of images but not that long ago, for a crash, you had one roll of 36 exposures. That was it. This one was negative film. So shooting this from the starter stand of the California Speedway in Fontana on October 29, 2000 kind of went like this... Diaz racing to the checkered flag clips a car, flips in the air and lands on his head going 180 mph...camera burst then pause. Mario Dominguez crashes into him and drags him towards the start finish line...camera burst then pause...click pause...click again and pause to save on film as the two cars slide under the starter stand, I move to the other side of the stand and keep Diaz in the frame...Diaz’s car keeps sliding on its top...shoot a couple of frames and pause...then the car slides to the bottom of the track catches the edge of the track, rolls and drops on the track right side up...another quick burst and then wait for Diaz to get out of the car, click...click... end of roll. I take the roll to the Media Center to master photo editor Darrell Ingham who processes the roll in the restrooms and sends the images to The Getty pic desk. Compartment syndrome is a medical emergency and it needs to be recognized early. A similar situation may occur when an IO cannula is deployed in the wrong position or dislodged during the treatment. That is why you would want to make sure your IO device is in place. There are several ways to verify IO placement: 1. Check for aspiration of bone marrow 2. Flush and watch for swelling 3. Are the medications injected via the IO taking effect on the patient? 4. If available, bedside doppler may be effective in correct position confirmation. Early signs of compartment syndrome - Severe pain, swelling and redness of the affected limb Compartment syndrome is a rare complication associated with IO access. It may occur when the cannula is dislodged from the bone or over penetrated it. Therefore, correct location must be verified by aspiration of bone marrow, saline flush and observation of extravasation signs. In the image above is the result of a fasciotomy performed on a patient who had arrived to a field hospital with compartment syndrome, after being trapped under wreckage of an earthquake and rescued. - [OC] I took this photo of Daniel Ricciardo celebrating his win at the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix. The evening sunlight was peeking through the clouds around Sepang Circuit and illuminated one spot on the podium. Fortunately Daniel ran to that spot and hoisted the trophy right under the sunlight.

- Here’s my knee about 2 weeks post op after having the rod and screws removed from my leg a year and a half after being hit by a drunk driver resulting in a broke tib and fib. It’s about a month later and I’m walking...kind of!

- My wrist laceration from a couple weeks ago, caused by glass. Hit both arteries, tendons the whole works. Luckily one artery managed to close itself off and supply blood to my hand which is the only reason I kept it. Enjoy
