Brought tears to my eyes when my partner sent me these images of Kai and I sleeping the love you have for your child is unconditional and indescribable and I’m so happy @josh_hourigan captured these ❤️ Kai needs either daddy or I to hold his hand or just lay our hand there for him to touch to go to sleep at night. Hi friends, it’s been a while. We took a little time to mute ourselves and then took an actual break from social media for about a week. After 11 weeks of Covid, and trying to sustain our business I was reaching complete burn out and needed a minute to re-connect with my family (kids!) and nature. Sorry if we left you hanging, I felt I was in a pickle and didn’t know of a graceful way to let you know I needed some space, so I just leaned into the silence and hoped you would have grace with me. So…Thank You. We have been doing a lot of thinking,discussing, and reading. We wanted to address the current issues at hand, but also wanted to do it in a way that didn’t seem contrived. When the Marches and Black Lives Matter rallies started happening downtown, we wanted to show up for our community. We were able to offer free coffee and a few hundred “World Peace Cookies” to our locals. It was a small way we as a business could give back. We know the world needs more than coffee and pastries but for us it was a start and we’ll always remember standing downtown w/ you, serving you! Last night we met as a whole staff. I needed time to process with them before speaking (on IG) for our business. I can speak for myself, but it’s my responsibility to acknowledge that Scout is made up of 30 unique and wonderful voices. I am here to let you know that I believe in equality for all, and I absolutely believe Black lives matter. We all do. We are committed to creating a more loving and peaceful world. For now, I will leave you with Sentiments from the Scout Staff: “ As a member of the Scout team I want everyone who walks through our cafes to feel safe, like they belong, and are celebrated. Em meio ao êxtase por parir em casa e quebrar todos os protocolos do sistema, eu jamais imaginara que o mais difícil estava por vir. Por volta das 21h30 já estávamos no outro quarto. Imprinting 💦 Ainda não tinha parido a placenta, eu sentia o cordão pulsando em minhas pernas, nos envolvendo como laço que jamais será desfeito. Te coloquei no peito. Eu achava que sabia! Eu acreditava que só bastava colocar no peito e tudo fluiria. Eu estava muito enganada. Naquele dia começaria a nossa saga que durou EXATOS 54 DIAS. Eu jamais me esquecerei desse número. Foram 54 dias de tortura, de negação, de não me aceitar por não saber amamentar, de dedicação, de muita DOR. Mesmo com o mundo contra, eu jamais te ofereci qualquer outro alimento, filha. Eu não desisti. Eu sabia que ia me superar. Era difícil vê-la chorando e gritar junto quando ela grudava em meu peito! Era um misto de leite, sangue e lágrimas, literalmente. Um mamilo que quase necrosou, uma mente que não estava saudável, uma mãe que só queria ser capaz de nutrir sua cria sem dor. Eu me questionava todos os dias se aquela tortura iria passar. As inúmeras idas à Santa Monica eram em vão. Porque lá eu me sentia segura, eu aprendia. E ao cruzar a porta de vidro eu desaprendia tudo. O que faltava? MENTE SÃ! Foram 54 dias, quase DOIS MESES com o mamilo lacerado, aberto, sangrando, purulento, e no 55° dia, como mágica, nos conectamos. E, mais uma vez, vencemos o sistema. Desde então, apoiamos, incentivamos, lutamos juntos a outras mães que querem amamentar ou que por algum motivo não conseguiram amamentar. Estamos juntas. Everyone meet Fjord Domenico Orsini born yesterday morning at 8:11am September 28th, 2020 weighing 6lbs 14 ozs. It was quite the experience labouring all night and ending up at the hospital at 5am without medication until requiring a c-section. Probably one of the most scariest, painful days of my life so far but as soon as I seen his little face it was all worth it. I am so in love with this little pumpkin! He has the longest lashes, cutest dimples & his daddies big eyes. We are officially all Libras in the home now, minus the fur pups. “My body can do this” I feel like this has been my mantra for the past months. Going through so much loss with IVF is hard. We lost 7 embryos including one miscarriage and finally, on our last transfer, we were successful. But how can I trust my body? I feel like it’s failed me so many times that at this point I just walk into appointments assuming things arent going to be where they should be. . No one told me I would feel this way. No one told me that I would feel so scared and have so much anxiety after becoming pregnant again. I thought once I had a positive test that would be it, we would be safe, but these feelings of anxiety and worry havent gone away. And in fact, they are more present now that we are weeks into this pregnancy. . During IVF I was so closely monitored. I went into the clinic every week, sometimes two or three times a week. And now, I’m supposed to just trust that things are going well? For three years I was monitored, I had countless blood draws and I was always told how things were going on a weekly basis. But when you’re pregnant all that seems to go out the window. . But I suppose that’s how this part of the process works. I graduate from the IVF clinic and then I’m supposed to trust and assume things are going ok.
