It’s safe to say, that we are not for everyone. It took me a few years of shooting weddings to realise that. Our brand of wedding videography is not what every couple wants. Indeed, WE, are not who everyone wants. There are times when I’ll speak to a couple and after the chat, I’ll never hear from them again! (Brings back painful memories of approaching women in bars in Croydon, but the less said about that, the better! 😂😂) . . Having booked 3 weddings in the last week, I realised that the conversations I had with the couples were fun, a bit silly, and made all parties involved excited about moving forward. And as I post more and more Instagram stories, where the tone is borderline foolish, I realise that the people that like your energy, are the ones that will find you and book you - and the ones that don’t like it... will find an energy that they are attracted to. And that is well. . . One of the greatest pleasures I’ve had this year is taking my dog to play at our local dog park. To me , watching dogs play together makes me instantly happy . We’ve gotten to know some of the local dogs (and owners) and my dog , Jeffrey, even has a dog BFF . Every time they see each other , they go bounding through the park to excitedly meet. I was lucky to grow up with dogs and cats (and some other animals) and am so happy that my kids can too. Even when I was unable to have my own dog , I still loved watching dogs play at my local dog beach . This quote is so true , I think us humans can learn a thing or two from dogs . The dog in the middle is inspired by the former first dog . There hasn’t been a ‘first dog’ since 2016 ...for the first time in over 100 years ! I don’t remember my best day of TV, but I do remember playing outside, building forts, climbing trees, collecting bugs, playing stickball, staying out till dark, breaking stuff, laughing, going on adventures, playing games, etc, and being tired at the end of the day. Okay, this seems to be a contentious topic, but its an important one. Even though we love our pets, the relationship we have with them is one that was artificially created. We selectively breed them for physical and behavioural attributes that suit US. We buy and sell them as it suits US. Their lives revolve around US, from what they eat to where they sleep, and even when they die. Under the law they are property, and due to the way we have altered them, most of them could never survive on their own in the wild. We often want to think of our pets as our friends or companions. You dont own your friends, do you? You dont keep them locked in your house or yard (or cage etc), controlling every aspect of their lives...well, we hope not! There are so many neglected and homeless domestic animals out there, we absolutely have to look after them. Hello, all -- unsurprisingly for a project that started before the pandemic, there have been many delays with BIG STIR MAGAZINE #5, but were finally just about ready to roll the presses! Were aiming for a November release. Itll be just as gorgeously designed (all hail Champniss!) in full colo(u)r as #4, and even bigger. And hopefully itll be a welcome throwback to better times, with many dispatches from the pre-COVID world! As the last step were doing the awkward thing where we solicit ads to help cover the printing costs and keep the cover price down. Compared to the many predatory entities on the music landscape, Big Stir only ever asks for money for this one service, which we believe has some actual value, and again its all aimed at keeping the magazine itself affordable!
