Let’s clarify something you will probably hear a lot. You’re not too young to go gray. You can’t possibly be too young for what is naturally sprouting from the top of your head. You very likely had a “-teen” or “twenty-“ in your age when you spotted your first silver hair. Let’s dismiss the notion you can be too young to go gray and recognize that comment for what it is. You are “too young” to make other people and society comfortable with you revealing your silver hair with confidence because of the conditioning we’ve experienced about what gray hair means. That doesn’t make it true. Your hair color doesn’t define your age, youthfulness or vitality. You’re not too young. And the quicker we realize that, the quicker that barrier gets broken down. December 2012 was the last time I dyed my hair and immediately regretted it BUT it was feeling all that regret that enabled me to stand firm in my decision to never dye it again. I felt so unique in my May 2012 photo and the dye took that away. Even though one could argue I looked younger or better (I would disagree) I was no longer the unicorn 🦄 I had been used. This is Erin. For over a year and a half, we have been working on transitioning from some heat damaged hair. The photo on the left was taken in April 2019. The photo on the right was taken this week. This is the first time that I did not find any straight pieces of hair, despite the amount of length taken off in the first cut. Mechanically damaged and chemically damaged hair must be nurtured. It’s so important to see your stylist regularly to help you devise a plan to get your hair back to being healthy unless you plan on shaving it all off 🤣 Stand alone @olaplex treatments are very helpful, getting a few inches cut at a time and learning how to manipulate your hair without heat to help it match the rest....these are just some of the ways to have a smooth transition. I’m so glad I take before and after photos. It’s so nice to see the progress even more than a year later. It also brings me joy and that’s what I’m holding onto especially with the climate of the world right now. - 6 Months of Curly Hair Growth
- F/32/5’6” [225lbs 154lbs = 71] the photo on the left is what started my real desire and commitment to a healthier life. The photo on the left was taken at thanksgiving 2017. My journey has been slow and steady and i am grateful for how far I have come.

What Helped Me The Most In This Journey⤵️ 1️⃣Knowing the three important factors to choose the right products for your hair. Find out your texture, density and hair porosity. I have a post about how you can determine these 3 factors in my highlights “how to choose products”. Go check it out. 2️⃣Paying attention to ingredients. Understanding how to read ingredient lists has transformed my curly hair journey. Knowing your hair is part of reading labels. This will save you so many trial and error fails because you can understand what you’re putting in your hair and how your hair responds to it. In my highlights by “ingredientlist” you see what to look for or to avoid. Check it out. 3️⃣Experimenting a lot. I follow the rule what will work for my hair doesn’t mean it will work for your hair. For example I have high porosity, medium density and fine hair. My hair likes coconut oil as a ingredient. It also occurs that another curly has the exact same properties of the hair but the hair doesn’t like not against coconot oil as an ingredient at all. So all I can say is pay attention to how your hair reacts with certain ingredients. Don’t follow the one rule you know your hair as the best. What helped you the most in this journey so far? - In June last year I had no idea what the CGM was or that it even existed. I ended up just chopping 8 inches of my hair cause I was so frustrated with how dead and stringy it felt. (More details in the comments)
- I did a big chop in October and have been slowly nursing my poor at-home bleach blonde hair, hot pink hair, and cherry coke hair back to health. Last night I didn’t use conditioner for the first time and I like the results, but my hair has been looking like the one on the right for a while :)
