A fagylaltgépek eleinte kézi hajtásúak voltak. Eleinte „hideg nyalat”-nak nevezték a hűsítő édességet. Pasteur Germ Proof filters, like the one installed in the Haas-Lilienthal House, helped to provide a clean water source for the household. The Pasteur-Chamberlain filter consists of permeable unglazed porcelain (bisque) tube enclosed in metal, which is connected to the inflow water pipe and controls the flow of water. #victorianinnovation #waterfilter #louispasteur #victorianhome #haaslilienthalhouse - @haaslilienthalhouse on Instagram

What’s for lunch? Compare your lunch to students in the 1800s. In the lunch pail: Leftovers from supper or breakfast like meat pies or pancakes. Homemade bread with syrup or lard or butter. Jam or meat sandwiches. Cheese, hard-boiled eggs, fish. Dried foods: jerky, raisins, fruits. Fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables. Baked foods like cookies or cake. Some children took a hot baked potato on very cold days, which also helped keep their hands warm on the way to school. Then they ate the potato for lunch. The schoolroom stove could also provide hot water that could be added to reheat lunches, or the teacher could combine shared ingredients to make a stew for all Early lunch carriers were cloth bags, or wooden or tin buckets covered with a folded cloth on top filled with items like cold meat, rustic bread and chunks of cheese. Tins with lids became popular lunch pails as factories used tin boxes and cannisters to package goods such as, cookies, lard and tobacco. By the end of the century, providing lunches at school started to become a priority for charitable groups and boards of education. #DundurnCastle #DundurnKitchen #BackToSchool #HamOnt #HamOntMuseums #SchoolLunch #WhatsForLunch - @dundurn_castle on Instagram
