We all compare ourselves all the time.⠀ ⠀ I believe a better advice is When you compare yourself with others, try to see the bigger picture.⠀ ⠀ What I mean by this is that we usually just compare one thing about us with one thing about someone else. ⠀ ⠀ We see how big someone elses muscles are and we feel bad about our own bodies for example. What we miss in comparisons like this it that the guy with the big muscles might have them because he feels so much anger in his life that he has to take it out in the gym. Or maybe he feels so insecure about his personality that he needs to work out really hard to feel that he is worth something.⠀ ⠀ We dont know. We just see the muscles.⠀ ⠀ So next time you compare yourself with someone else, ask yourself, what do I have that this person dont have? I wanted Noah to attend the vigil tonight in PDX for George Floyd to show solidarity with Minneapolis, but he didn’t want to go. When I picked him up afterwards, I brought him this sign from the vigil and he expressed to me that he didn’t want to go because he was scared and worried that the police would show up and things would get dangerous for the people. But he understands the message of the sign and supports the movement and wants people to know what he stands for. Noah’s a half Black, half East Indian 10yr old with albinism and everytime another Black life is murdered at the hands of the police, I think of him first. I think about how he was born with a rare disease that affects 1 and 20k people in the US, one that allows him the ability to appear white...which, in-turn, could essentially save his life one day. I think about the fact that so many others do not have this ability and are instead targets simply for the color of their skin. Targets to racist and hateful ass people that value power over other human lives like the cops that murdered George Floyd. Racism is power, white supremacy is terrorism...this country was built on it and you should be sick of it. I’m so sad and angry lately, but I’m taking comfort in Noah and his honesty and strength and love that he shows me everyday. I’m hugging him extra tight and his father and I are teaching him to fight racism and white supremacy because his life matters, George’s life mattered, Black lives matter♥️ - @_nishafox_ on Instagram

Weve created musical care packages to send to them where they live, with music-making activities that you can do without much space, an instrument or even an internet connection. There are also journalling exercises, colouring-in, recipes, craft activities and a stamped-addressed envelope and postcards so that they can stay in touch with us and their friends. We are also putting together digital resources to share weekly over the seven weeks of the summer holidays, to help young people to express themselves through music, and connect with us and each other. With these resources, we hope to spark joy 🌟, and support positive mental health and creativity in a time of real hardship for many.
