And because it’s Friday, here’s a silly picture of me realizing I forgot to thoroughly dust my violin before a photoshoot. 😳😅 Thanks for being ever-so-kind and capturing this moment, @willjumwinston. 🤣 • For real though, if you have never once been reprimanded for the state of your violin by a teacher in your student years, did you even take lessons?! 😂 • Here are my basic violin cleaning tips: 1. Get a cloth. It can be any fabric except something like satin or velvet. You can buy one from a music store, or you can cut up an old cotton t-shirt and use a strip of that! 2. Get a good quality varnish cleaner/polish. My favourite is the one from @w.e.hillandsons. You don’t need to use this more than 1-2 times a month, depending on how many fingerprints and dirt gets on your violin (I’m watching you 👀). 3. Don’t be afraid to really dig in and clean those strings. Yes, the squeak is not pleasant to hear, but rosin build-up that detracts from your sound is even less pleasant. 4. Don’t forget to run your cloth underneath your strings, in between them, under the tailpiece and under the chinrest. Also, clean your chinrest and any other part of your violin that has contact with your face/neck. Skin contact can mean extra bacteria buildup, which can lead to breakouts and, in worst case scenarios, infections! 5. Regularly run your cloth along the underbelly of the stick of your bow, too! It comes in contact with rosin the most, after all. :) 6. I would think this would be obvious by now, but avoid touching the body of the violin as oils and acids in our skin can damage the varnish of the violin. 7. Don’t ever clean with alcohol!!! 8. I mean, it’s a trend these days anyways, but wash your hands before playing. Duh. 😂 9. Buy a toothbrush specifically to keep in your violin case (yup, you read that right). This year, one of my resolutions was/is to be a louder and more involved voice in the musicians wellness world. I had lots of plans but, well, we all know what happened to 2020. I am excited to share that I am now on the PAMA Young Professionals Committee. PAMA (Performing Arts Medicine Association) was an incredible resource when I wrote my dissertation. They have decades of research regarding injuries and health for performing artists (including musicians, dancers, and actors). Last summer, I attended the conference at UCLA and met incredible leaders in the field, attended fantastic workshops, and bonded with some like-minded musicians. It was also where I met @tinamargaretanilssen, the creator of Timani, which has changed my life (more on this later). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ive been surprised when speaking with my performer friends to hear that most of them dont know about PAMA and what a great resource it is. Well folks, thats why I joined the committee. The performers, those on stage, need to know how to access the research in the field - and that starts with simply knowing about this organization. I know a creepy amount - lets call it research - so if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Crazy to think about how different this Summer has been compared to 2019 (or any other Summer), here from Oslo Chambermusic Festival last August. This might be my favorite performance photo ever taken (of me). Ive been reconnecting with the power of music to connect and create community and shared experiences and this photo really sums it up for me. Поймите . Когда люди такое пишут, это не нытьё , а то я часто сталкиваюсь с мнением ,что вот «ой Лера ,представляешь , она(он) написал(а) свои мысли,зачем ,это нытьё,это не нужно» и я правда не понимаю ,почему людей других осуждают за их собственные мысли,переживания . Думаю от собственной не очень интересной жизни 😉 Ну правда, вас никто не обязывает читать других людей (просто знаю случаи ,когда людей это задевало, и они переставали делиться мыслями ,хотя это их жизнь, ). Слишком много стереотипов в инстаграме появилось, это можно выставлять , это можно обсуждать , а это нет... конечно!, Какие-то темы лучше не затрагивать ,чтобы не нарываться на огромный поток негатива,но, ваши мысли, ваши истории , советы , ВАШЕ!
