Been late to update (been waiting till the right time to protect our brave allies). This is from 4th of July (but in the works since even earlier—back in March)! a couple months ago, our networks of nurses and doctors were being walked out in handcuffs for passing out PPE so we had to start an underground bottom-top network (the real roots of PPEforHCP) of free donations that even included the US Veterans Affairs. A few of us on OSCMS spun off a Signals group to design (medical) protective equipment for peaceful protesters (inspired by Hong Kong) as soon as June 1; this was to keep our community healthy/reduce hospital resource impacting (on the bigger scope/support freedom, liberty, and justice). We couldn’t do it without your support, the support of a few brave individuals going against the grain (sacrificing the REAL threat of getting fired for not “staying in their lane” or often worse) in US Customs, UPS, SJPD, hospitals, FEMA, fire department, Hong Kong/mainlanders, etc. Advocates for health and good doctors/nurses and frontlines come from all sides. Berlin geht mit seinen Maßnahmen gegen die Corona-Pandemie über die Beschlüsse des Bund-Länder-Gipfels hinaus. Der Regierende Bürgermeister Michael Müller (SPD) kündigte nach einer Sondersitzung des Senats an, dass vom kommenden Samstag an Höchstgrenzen für private Zusammenkünfte wie etwa Partys gelten. Dazu komme eine Maskenpflicht in Büros und in Verwaltungsgebäuden. Die neuen Regeln sehen vor, dass eine Maske tragen muss, wer sich in den Gebäuden bewegt. An einem festen Platz, also dem eigenen Schreibtisch, könne die Maske abgenommen werden, sagte die Berlins Wirtschaftssenatorin Ramona Pop (Grüne). Nach den Beschlüssen des Corona-Gipfels mit Bundeskanzlerin Merkel (CDU) und den Ministerpräsident*innen der Länder sollen Höchstgrenzen für Feiern erst gelten, wenn die Inzidenz, die Zahl der Neuinfektionen pro 100.000 in sieben Tagen, 35 erreicht. Dieser Wert liegt in Berlin derzeit unter 30. Der Senat beschloss jedoch, bereits jetzt die Einschränkungen in Kraft zu setzen. Wirtschaftssenatorin Pop sagte, es gelte nun für private Feiern in Räumen eine Höchstgrenze von 25 Teilnehmern, für draußen von 50. Wir sehen, dass sich die Leute in Parks überall in Gruppen zusammentun und dort die Abstände teilweise nicht mehr einhalten. Royal London Hospital security officer captures stunning portraits of our heroes. 💙 Piotr Peksa, a Royal London Hospital security officer who goes by the pseudonym, Peter Pexington (@peterpexington), has captured some stunning portrait photographs of staff members on his camera. 📷 Working full time as a security officer at The Royal London Hospital, Peter is also a very talented amateur photographer and video film maker. The photographs were taken for a project Peter had wanted to undertake for a while, as a gift to frontline heroes to showcase how hard they’ve worked lately. Speaking about the project, Peter said: “I had this project of A&E Heroes portrait photography in my mind for a couple of months already, and I finally said to myself I have to go for it. So many high-minded people, companies, and restaurants delivered free food to NHS employees during the difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic. I also decided to deliver to those heroes something from me. This is how my portrait photography project was created. The photography project was a very good experience for me, and I hope it was a good experience for all of the nurses, doctors, porters, domestic, receptionists, security and paramedics - everyone who dedicated their lives to helping us. I just want to say big thank you for your hard work.” In Peter’s spare time, he is always looking for new photography and videography projects to undertake. Story of a NON COVID Physician rather a Warrior as they say.. Does it feel like one? A warrior? Definitely not. Working in a non covid hospital is keeping your guard on for all the pediatric, geriatric, surgical and immunodeficient patients, especially when were based in a rural set up where we were supplied PPEs super late. Weve been highly alert during the past six months. Or seven. Sorry, Ive lost count of time now. Even after being highly vigilant, we got patients feeding us with false history and hiding their symptoms at the stake of healths of skilled labor. Thats what we physicians are. Skilled laborers. Why do I say so? Well, the wave started with patients testing positive, unfurling the physicians, the staff and my colleagues as well. I had my roommate turn positive and I got symptoms even after being in isolation. I was ill for 20 days straight but thankfully tested negative twice. I resumed duty right after but I still see my colleagues turning positive every day, hell, even while youre reading this piece, one of our fellow physician wouldve turned positive. Still we work for the greater good, keeping our emotions, exams, anxieties, fear and families aside to the point of being indifferent. The world is moving on but our battle still continues, we just put on a happy face because such is life. Weve lived in so much uncertainty that were now prepared to face anything and everything. “But doesn’t wearing a mask take away PPE from our healthcare workers?” The answer is no. Let us tell you why. Until today (April 3rd), this model of masks was not even allowed to be used by healthcare professionals. Our nonprofit was almost over before it started. We didn’t want to take from healthcare workers but also felt it was extremely important that people were able to wear masks in grocery stores everywhere. Mindful of this, we did as much research as possible. We found that the FDA approving the KN95 mask for medical use didn’t mean that every KN95 mask was approved. The masks that we import aren’t made in a factory certified by the FDA. Therefore, it will not take away from medical PPE supply chains. In fact, there are billions of these masks already. It’s the most readily available mask in the world. They’re just not commonly used in the Western Hemisphere. We need to take quarantine a little more seriously and masking up for every grocery store trip is how. Dr. Fauci, the head of our infectious disease task force stated the other night that quarantine could last until we get a vaccine approved. He then said a vaccine could take 12 to 18 months best case scenario. Imagine.. this would be devastating for so many. We have to find a way to make our quarantine effective. Every grocery store customer should be wearing masks and every grocery store employee should be wearing PPE.
