#AlOurUniverseGaveUs Last day and a delayed posting. I chose Heros pose- it spoke to me.. . Chakra-Root Muladhara helps us to feel grounded and connected. It giving us a place for our life to take root and for the flow of energies to propel us forward on our life journey . Affirmations: I have everything I need I release all my doubts and fears I am connected to my body I am grounded The past 6 weeks have been a roller coaster ride. I choose to complete a 200 yoga intensive training during the busiest season of my life. Work year-end, volleyball season ( 2 daughters and on different teams) 40 + hours of work, 2 funerals, zero sleep, yoga training, practicum, and multiple chakras spinning out of control I am sure!. Often the thought crosses my mind.. what was I thinking? There are so many variations of headstand. This one comes toward the end of Ashtanga’s Intermediate Series. Years of dedicated practice has allowed me to do some amazing things with my body, as well as settle some mind chatter. _________________________ No one is going to give you a perfect body, a clear mind, or a path to go in this life. These are things you can only create for yourself. But if you don’t carve out the time to work on self-improvement, health, well-being, then it’s never going to happen. Life takes over and you live in reaction mode and not creating mode. If you want to change your life, you must take time to do it. A little time each day is enough, start with 30 minutes, let it expand with time to an hour or more. Turn off your phone, do not allow yourself to be disturbed. The world can wait for you to take care of yourself today and each day. But it is not a gift, it’s a choice. If you choose giving yourself this daily gift, you will be amazed at how much more you can accomplish with less effort. ____________________ When I first started practicing yoga & meditation at home, there were all sorts of distractions. But the distractions will fade with time if you create the space. Here’s how: schedule time each week as to when you want to do your yoga practice, meditation, gym or fitness time. Don’t compromise this time slot for anything else! Show up for yourself at these times every week or day. Eventually your phone will stop ringing during the time you give to yourself. People will inherently know that you are unavailable during specific times, and you can completely focus on yourself. my practice has changed a lot in the last few months. after an almost suffocating lockdown with a 3-4 hour practice a day, I started my new job, found my friends again, found my Parisian life again - which leaves much less time for yoga. but as much as I do everything to find a place for it every day, my intention in my practice has changed a lot. my asana practice is no longer dedicated to progress, to the daily practice of challenging postures. on the contrary, in the evenings after hours at work, talking and reflecting, I look for a way to find both comfort and silence, softness and calm. I find myself in postures that certainly require an effort but that I know by heart. These are natural consequences when our life path changes abruptly in a direction we did not want. •Take compassionate care of yourself. After you’ve acknowledged how you’re feeling, soothing yourself with practices such as deep breathing, meditation, and yoga. Also, be kind to yourself and change the negative self-talk to positive. Remind yourself that although you may feel your circumstances are out of your control, you can still control how you react to them.” •Keep engaging with people and activities that make you feel good. Any movement you make when you feel lost will feel like progress. Keep reaching out to your friends and loved ones because their support will lift your mood instantly. Even though it might be painful and frustrating and exasperating, feeling lost can become an opportunity to grow. Feeling lost can redirect us toward what really matters to us. It can inspire us to take a trip and savor new experiences. It can inspire us to take a different job, which starts to fulfill us. It can inspire us to join a support group where we find our tribe. Feeling lost can be the first step in creating a more fulfilling life. It can be the first step in reconnecting to ourselves. I need to rant about all the “progress” posts shared by those “inspirational” yoga accounts. 😐 Lots of them took images out of context and always emphasized how FAST you can achieve certain poses if you work “hard enough.” That’s not the point of practicing yoga. Progress is NOT a competition. We called it “yoga practice” because it’s an on going journey. Just because someone else took less time to achieve certain posture, it doesn’t mean you’re not good enough or not working as hard! Don’t stop celebrating other people’s progress. Get inspired! But please please please do NOT compare your own progress with theirs. You have to realize that we all have different body types and structures. Some people are naturally stronger, and others are more flexible. Focus on your journey, and not how much time it takes to go from point A to point B. Yoga is both on and off the mat, and asana is only one small part of the practice. I just want to remind you that the value of your practice is not determined by what you CAN or CAN’T do. It’s YOUR journey. Welcome Day6 :) The pose is cobra pose or locust. Here I’m sharing 2 videos. The first one is how I training my back strength with wide arm variation and full pose. Ending is tradition to dhanurasana. I’m sharing short backbend strenth practice but this kind of practice important in every backbend pose. It’s not only flexibility, we also need strong back muscles. Second is fun variation of movement using yoga wheel. I think this is quietly fun 😅but you also need strength to grounding well. Without it the wheel maybe going somewhere 😶 And when you using it find right place the right place you feel no pain. As you see in bhujangasana I really want to asking you try to using upper body and make your leg super super strong. Swipe and see the last photo of cobrapose. If this is tough, using blanket or slightly lift up is also fine. This week we have #revolvedhalfmoon ➡ #stagpresshandstand ➡ #twistedlizard . #Stagpress is very similar to a split press, except I feel like its a bit easier on the hamstrings since you dont have to straighten the top leg 🤸🏼‍♀ I added a switch in #staglegs cause Im extra 🤣 . How do you feel about headstand? • While certainly a very popular inversion in the yoga world, and one with lots of purported benefits, you may which to consider a few things before diving in head first (sorry 😉). • Researchers at the University of Texas studied 45 experienced yoga practitioners and measured the load on the head and neck while performing headstand. • Findings of the study revealed on average, that the load on the head and neck was between 40 - 48% of an individual’s body weight. This is pretty significant. Authors of the study state that these loads put a minimum of 50% of individuals at risk of neck injury. 😢 • The degree of load was also influenced by the technique used; with the least amount of load to the neck when straight legs lift and lower simultaneously. “Kicking up” or using an asymmetrical, single leg technique resulted in the greatest load to the neck. 😢 Load was further increased as the length of time in headstand increased. • I think what’s really important here is that although the sample size was small, the study was done with highly experienced practitioners. Less experienced practitioners would likely have even greater loads. • Like inversions but looking for alternatives? You may wish to substitute a “headless” headstand as shown here. You get all the benefits of headstand while mitigating risk...plus, it’s fun and strengthening and empowering - yay! • There’s lots of other great options such as handstand, downward facing dog, dolphin, legs up the wall...so many! • Exploring postures that work for you, in a safe, supportive, and informed manner...always, always, paying keen attention to the feedback your wise, wonderful body is giving you. 💕 • • • #yoga #yogaforlongevity #longevity #research #yogaresearch #headstand #inversions #headlessheadstand - @kindlivingwithsue on Instagram

When I first started YTT in 2011 one of the first things I remember my teacher saying was if you can’t change your situation, change your perspective and that is advice I return to over and over again. If you aren’t willing to chose to change your situation or you are unable to because it’s beyond your reach, you owe it to yourself to change the way you are looking at it and accept it. The mind is so powerful and so creative that you really can change your life by changing the thoughts you bring in. The hardest part is getting quiet enough to listen to your Self. Then replace the thoughts that aren’t healthy with positive and healthy ones that will get you where you want to be. We let so much noise in, it only becomes more and more challenging to tune in but the tools are there. Remember the things you watch, listen to and read are YOUR choice. We live in a era where everything needs to be pretty and polished. A time where conflicts are demonized and doubts are seen as a sign of weakness. We live in a society that teaches us that is sin to dig deep in the darkness of our souls. We desperately feel the need to belong even before we realize who we really are, even before understanding what we want to be part of. All we care about is to feel part of something because solitude terrifies us. To be face to face with our souls it requires so much courage and compassion. So we forget to mention how bad we feel in order to stay positive. We deny ourself the right to feel weak, confused and sad to appear strong. We decided to keep pushing ourself also if all we want to do is to collapse on the floor and ask for help. All in order to be perceived as successful. We lie to ourself to fit into the picture perfect life that we think we should live. And that’s why for so long I was trapped in abusive relationship. I did not want to disappoint anybody with the ugliness of my life and I was not ready to admit to my self that nothing was perfect. That I was not perfect and I and I needed help. Today I know that I should not be ashamed of my story because it made me who I am. Today I know that life has ups and down. One of my favorite poses forever and ever. Let’s break down the HLBB 🙏🏼👇🏼 High Lunge Backbend immediately gets me sweating in my practice if I haven’t already started 😅 Literally everything from your pinky toes to the very tips of your index fingers are WORKING. It is such a beautiful expression of strength and flexibility. To start to find stability and YOUR alignment, let’s look at three areas of the body: ☝🏼The FEET. Yes. This is your foundation, and if you want a stable pose, your base needs to be strong enough to support it, right? So with your front foot, push down with: - the pinky toe mound - the ball of your foot - the center of your heel These 3 points will help activate muscles through the leg to keep you stable. Your back heel is lifted and PULLING forward. ✌🏼The HIPS. Keeping the pelvis stable and square supports a sustainable posture, one that you can practice over and over and over. So two hip points are in one line, and feel for squeezing outer hip points IN towards one another. Hug inner thighs together, and lift your pelvic floor. These should all encourage the pelvis to be level and stable. For me, consciously thinking about my glutes adds an extra level of stability. Pushing into the front heel fires up my front glute, and I squeeze the back glute at the same time. From here, mindfully pull navel in and up. 🤟🏼The SPINE. This involves pretty much the entire upper body, but this caption is already super long so let’s keep it simple. Your first priority is LENGTH, before finding any kind of bend. Extend index fingers and ribs UP as you inhale to find maximum height, and lead with the top of your spine as you exhale and bend back. Your shoulder blades reach up and back to support the upper spine, your bottom ribs tuck and navel pulls in to support the lower spine. More than anything, this is a pose that requires practice and honoring exactly where your body is at. You can stay in a High Lunge and just shift your gaze up towards your hands — that’s a great place to start, and sometimes that is enough. What do you guys think? TOE-TAP HANDSTAND COMPRESSION THINGS PART 1 (Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2 🦶) . . . I know what you might be thinking 🤔 💭 Why on earth would you want to bring your foot to your wrists, what function does that serve in a handstand?🦶 Excellent question! 🤩 (Yes, it’s true, when I am not doing yoga, I am busy reading minds...hahaha!) The reason? It is important because, the more that you can actively fold your body in half using you core, the less you need to planche your shoulders forward to counterbalance the weight of your legs. This is highly desirable, since it is a lot less pressure on your shoulders and your wrists, since you won’t have to lean forward as far. . . DRILLS: Start with 3 and work to 1 . 1: Place your hands 5 inches or so in front of the bolster, press into your hands and scoop out your front body. Round between your two shoulder blades (protract). Imagine someone pulling you up from directly behind your navel as you lean forward and draw your thighs to your chest. Once you find full handstand, lower as slowly and deliberately as you can. Touch your toes to your wrists/forearms and use your belly to slowly slide them all the way to the floor. . . 2: Forward Fold with blocks in front of your feet. Hollow out in your forward fold. Stay for 1-3 min. Breathe deep hollowing on your exhales. Then reach your arms forward and do little reaches try to touch your toes as far up your arms as possible. . 3: Sit with your back supported by the wall. Place your yoga blocks in front of you. Reach your arms forward and interlace your fingers. Take an inhale and exhale to engage your abs as you lift your leg over the block. Repeat x 10 each leg. I always try to look happy 😃 and fool myself into thinking that these are fun, I think it is starting to work! Try it! Let me know how it goes! . . . Take a ZOOM class with me! TOE-TAP HANDSTAND COMPRESSION THINGS 2 . 1: Place two yoga blocks against the wall shoulders distance apart. Lie on your back with your hands on the blocks. Turn your hands so that your fingers point towards the sides of the room. This will keep your shoulders in external rotation and makes it MUCH easier to push your hands into the wall. (If you try it with your fingers pointing down towards the floor rather than out to the sides you will see that it takes ALOT of wrist flexibility to make it work and it becomes difficult to keep pressure in the hands) Press into your hands and straighten your arms. Then, using the strength of your abs, curl your legs up, bringing your toes to your wrists and hollowing out through your abs. Slowly roll down one vertebrae at a time lengthening your back down to the mat slowly and then repeat! The slower you go and the more you can suck your lower belly in and up as you go the better. Remember to flex your feet and keep your legs straight. Pointing your toes is not wrong, it will just make it a lot harder to feel this one. . . . 2: Come into a forward fold at the wall with your hands on blocks. Come up onto tip toes. Press down into your hands and hollow out your front body. Lift one leg and tap your toes to your wrist. Repeat. . . Want to take class? 🇺🇸Did I say I need to slow down to anyone? During confinement I definitely said that because I realized that I was doing too much ! Before coming back to Paris about a week ago, I was a bit stressed to get back to “my running everywhere” type of routine, even though I said I won’t do as much this year. 3 days after coming back, I already forgot about everything I said , and I’m already back to my crazy life and you know what I LOVE IT! I’m just so happy to be back and to teach in real, it feels amazing to see all of you, to see your smiles, your eyes, your sweat, to see you moving, breathing, suffering, laughing... If you saw my stories you saw how many judgmental and ignorant comments pregnant women STILL receive for working out during their pregnancies. ⁣ ⁣ I remember posting a photo of me in a headstand at 9 months pregnant and a guy mansplained to me about how dangerous it was to do an inversion and that I should be charged with murder if I hurt my baby like that. I CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP😂⁣ ⁣ Unfortunately we live in a world where we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. Our bodies never cease to be on the chopping block of society. ⁣ ⁣ You’re not allowed to get “too big” or be “too little” while you’re pregnant.” You’re not allowed to exercise “too often” but you’re shamed if you “let yourself go.” And as soon as that baby is out you better “bounce back.” ⁣BUT then if you bounce back “too quickly” you’re vain and care too much about how you look 😂 ⁣ None of us know anything about anyone and I think it’s always safe to just mind our own business when it comes to someone’s health, pregnancy and the shape of their bodies. ⁣ ⁣ And what I’ve learned over the years of using social media and now as a mom is I don’t have to explain my choices or beliefs to anyone-least of all people I don’t know or will never meet in person. I literally feel nothing about a rude or unkind comment anymore. LIFE is happening outside of this app and I’m confident and sure of myself and my choices. ⁣ ⁣ Social media can be a toxic place where it’s easy to get behind a screen and judge away because these squares dehumanize us, so trolls feel it’s okay to say whatever they want. ⁣ ⁣ It’s normal to feel hurt or misunderstood, but try to not get swept away by ignorance and haters. Haters are a joke and if you entertain it then you become part of the joke. ⁣ ⁣ As RBG said “when a thoughtless or unkind word is spoken, best tune out. *HEADSTAND TO PINCHA* . . Big thanks to @emplays and @filchyboy for showing me this transition! 🙏💗🙏 . . 1. Warmup: Drop your head straight down and look back between your legs as if preparing for headstand. Inhale allow the crown of your head to touch the floor and exhale press through your forearms, spread your shoulder blades wide and come back up. Try for 10. ⁣ 2. Headstand To Pincha: From all fours, interlace your fingers up tot the webbing. Press the pinky side of your hand down. Make sure your elbows are shoulders distance apart. Press your forearms down and draw your shoulder blades down your back and spread them wide apart. Place the crown of your head down between your hands. Tuck your toes under. Lift your knees and walk your feet in. Either tuck up or straddle up and then open your legs into a straddle. (The straddle helps tremendously with balance) Press your hands and forearms down into the floor to make space as you gently press the back of your head into your hands and lift your head away from the floor. . PLAYFULNESS . It doesn’t matter how old you - you can always find a way to be in touch with your inner child. The older we get the harder some of us find that connection, due to responsibilities, pressures and social anxieties - but a fantastic way to work on this is on your mat and in your yoga practice. Finding joy in simple things like we did as children is the first step. Also allowing yourself to find joy and ease in your practice, laughing at yourself when you fall out of a posture, or tumble out of an inversion, or wobble in a balance. Sometimes it’s worth stepping out of the serious and focused mindset and just letting yourself have fun and enjoy the more playful side of yourself and your practice. What helps you feel playful? As a woman, if you train hard, you must recover harder. Due to the physiology of our bodies, it’s harder for us to recover. Why? Because we have a menstrual cycle. Our ability to access and use stored carbohydrates is generally lower, especially during times of our cycle when estrogen levels are high (ovulation & mid luteal phase). Not being able to access stored carbs slows down our recovery because we need available carbs to help us recover when were done. Understanding my own cycle has been such a powerful tool for my training, and learning from Dr Stacy Sims has given me so much insight into this. The important thing to realise is that you dont get stronger, faster, and fitter during your workout. Your adaptations happen when you RECOVER! When you train and overload your body through a certain stimulus (stress), it will then recover/ grow/ adapt so that it can meet the demands of that stress again. If you never let your body fully recover, then youre robbing yourself of all your hard work. You will be placing stress on top of stress which will eventually lead to injury, exhaustion, or a plateau in your training (been there plenty 🙋🏼‍♀️). And if youre new to training, then you need to take it extra easy so that you can allow your bones, muscles and tendons to gradually adapt to the stresses you’re placing upon them. If you ever feel guilty around rest days, then try to look at it from another perspective. Visualise all these amazing things happening to your body whilst you rest. Remember that your body is doing its magic here. Spend the day fuelling your body with nutritious food that will support your recovery, and double down on self care so that youll feel ready for your next training session 💪🏼 - @elycewintle on Instagram

Vietnamese is my primary language; English can be too; and Spanish is always a fave when traveling. 3. Since I journal by the book growing up, I learned how to write backwards from right to left. 4. I have alot of allergies, so I don’t eat red meats; my body loves raw food veggies and seafood, altho I can easily mob an order of extra crispy dry rub lemon pepper chicken wings, flats only. 5. I completed my 200hrs YTT in 2015, been practicing yoga on and off for ~6yrs while it’s my 3rd year posting ig yoga as a journal for my practice. 6. I began my healing journey in 2005 when I tried psilocybin for the v first time. 7. I have been to burning man a few times and developed self-sustaining skills and self-actualization mindset. 8. My self-love journey helped me learn to love myself to the core and connect to my source of energies, my inner G. Before that, I was really disconnected to myself and my emotional intelligence was failing me. 9. Besides yoga and energy work, I also have a sacred Buddhist practice to work with my ancestors, angels and ascended masters. 10. The only way I can practice a handstand 😅😅 one of the hardest parts of this pregnancy is all the things I can’t do with my body anymore.
