This is such a proud moment for me, my inversion journey began with the #inversionsandsunshine challenge I participated in. The final day of the challenge was a bow and arrow variation and at the time, all I was able to do were headstands. I was inspired by @livinleggings bow and arrow variation in pincha, it was gorgeous and I was inspired. After months of working on my pincha, I’ve finally been able to hold bow and arrow in pincha! my practice has changed a lot in the last few months. after an almost suffocating lockdown with a 3-4 hour practice a day, I started my new job, found my friends again, found my Parisian life again - which leaves much less time for yoga. but as much as I do everything to find a place for it every day, my intention in my practice has changed a lot. my asana practice is no longer dedicated to progress, to the daily practice of challenging postures. on the contrary, in the evenings after hours at work, talking and reflecting, I look for a way to find both comfort and silence, softness and calm. I find myself in postures that certainly require an effort but that I know by heart. *REVERSE PRESS HANDSTAND*⁠ ➖⁠ This pose is no more special or different than any other pose. It is just another opportunity to study yourself. Ultimately, with yoga, that is the goal. When you try for something difficult, that’s often when your “stuff” will show up. This presents a great opportunity to ask yourself some questions. Whats showing up in this moment?Frustration? Joy? Excitement? Suffering? The pose you choose to practice is irrelevant, what you discover in the process is what’s important. What are you discovering?⁠ ➖⁠ 🤸‍♀️Depending upon how flexible/how much active compression you have, you will have to set up further/closer to the wall. I set up about a foot away from the wall or so. Step your feet just a tiny bit wider than your hands to start and walk your feet back against the wall. Let your butt rest against the wall. Come up onto your tip toes lifting your heels as you send your butt up the wall. Try it imagine being a puppet being held up by a string attached to your sacrum.⁠ ➖⁠ Then, plant your palms and protract your upper back, moving your shoulder blades away from the center of your spine. Take a deep inhale and as you exhale press into your palms, straighten your arms completely, engage your abs and slide your butt up the wall as you reach your legs out to the sides of the room. The more You squeeze your quads and reach through your toes the easier it will be to get your legs to do what you want them to, so think tight, firm thighs and active feet the whole time!⁠ ➖⁠ Bring your legs up and together and then externally rotating from the hips slowly lower your legs down as far as you can. When you feel like you can’t lower any further without coming down, go back up.⁠ ➖⁠ 2. Hi. How you doing for this 2nd round of PSBB? Me, not so good. I don’t like feeling scared, on the edge and paranoid, my anxiety seems next level for me this time. But those are the feelings coming up. I do my best (good days and bad days) to make sure I am aware of these feeling and do the work to let them through. A lot of meditation, yoga, breathwork, talking to people, writing things out, riding a bike, taking warm baths, taking cold showers, break down and crying. Whatever I need to do to get stress up and out. I hope you all are doing things you need to deal with whatever you are feeling. This is not an easy time. I need to rant about all the “progress” posts shared by those “inspirational” yoga accounts. 😐 Lots of them took images out of context and always emphasized how FAST you can achieve certain poses if you work “hard enough.” That’s not the point of practicing yoga. Progress is NOT a competition. We called it “yoga practice” because it’s an on going journey. Just because someone else took less time to achieve certain posture, it doesn’t mean you’re not good enough or not working as hard! Don’t stop celebrating other people’s progress. Get inspired! But please please please do NOT compare your own progress with theirs. You have to realize that we all have different body types and structures. Some people are naturally stronger, and others are more flexible. Focus on your journey, and not how much time it takes to go from point A to point B. Yoga is both on and off the mat, and asana is only one small part of the practice. I just want to remind you that the value of your practice is not determined by what you CAN or CAN’T do. It’s YOUR journey. Yoga - eine meiner größten Leidenschaften habe ich in den letzten Monaten viel zu sehr vernachlässigt. 🙄 Durch Corona und die Schließung der Fitnessstudios habe ich meine Sportroutine in die heimischen vier Wände verlagert. Das klappt auch super gut, nur Yoga mache ich irgendwie doch lieber in größerer Runde und entsprechend habe ich es komplett links liegen lassen. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Ich ärgere mich nicht darüber, sondern nehme es als gegeben hin. Dennoch merke ich einfach, dass mir die Mobilität und die innere Ruhe fehlen, die mir so viel Stabilität und Kraft geben. Ab Sonntag geht es deshalb für mich endlich wieder regelmäßig ins Studio und auf die Matte und ich freue mich extrem darauf! 🤗 Treibst du regelmäßig Sport und wenn ja, welchen? Was tust du für deine innere Balance? Bei mir ist es ein Mix aus Kraft und Kardio sowie (im besten Fall) Yoga und Pilates. As a woman, if you train hard, you must recover harder. Due to the physiology of our bodies, it’s harder for us to recover. Why? Because we have a menstrual cycle. Our ability to access and use stored carbohydrates is generally lower, especially during times of our cycle when estrogen levels are high (ovulation & mid luteal phase). Not being able to access stored carbs slows down our recovery because we need available carbs to help us recover when were done. Understanding my own cycle has been such a powerful tool for my training, and learning from Dr Stacy Sims has given me so much insight into this. The important thing to realise is that you dont get stronger, faster, and fitter during your workout. Your adaptations happen when you RECOVER! When you train and overload your body through a certain stimulus (stress), it will then recover/ grow/ adapt so that it can meet the demands of that stress again. If you never let your body fully recover, then youre robbing yourself of all your hard work. You will be placing stress on top of stress which will eventually lead to injury, exhaustion, or a plateau in your training (been there plenty 🙋🏼‍♀️). And if youre new to training, then you need to take it extra easy so that you can allow your bones, muscles and tendons to gradually adapt to the stresses you’re placing upon them. If you ever feel guilty around rest days, then try to look at it from another perspective. Visualise all these amazing things happening to your body whilst you rest. Remember that your body is doing its magic here. Spend the day fuelling your body with nutritious food that will support your recovery, and double down on self care so that youll feel ready for your next training session 💪🏼 - @elycewintle on Instagram

Fun fact: crow pose was the first pose that got me into yoga. Swipe to see a video! 😊 Almost two years ago, I found a 30 days yoga challenge by Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. At that time I was looking for a way to calm my mind and body after work so I decided to give it a go. The classes were so great for beginners, all I did was just follow the instructions every single day. I didn’t actually expect anything out of it, I was happy that I could at least move my body in a calming way (I used to do a more high intense workout but didn’t really enjoy it). Anyway, on the very last day of that challenge, Adriene did a full yoga flow with no verbal instruction at all so I had to follow along visually. I thought I would terribly fail because I got used to follow her verbal instructions. Surprisingly, my body flowed so easily and I managed to do a crow pose which I thought was impossible for me at that time. And that’s how I fell in love with yoga. 💕 It makes my mind and body feel good! However, I never intentionally practice crow pose since then because I was focusing too much on getting into a headstand. The training taught me to go back to the foundation and I forgot how fun it is to learn a crow pose! There are so many variations of headstand. This one comes toward the end of Ashtanga’s Intermediate Series. Years of dedicated practice has allowed me to do some amazing things with my body, as well as settle some mind chatter. _________________________ No one is going to give you a perfect body, a clear mind, or a path to go in this life. These are things you can only create for yourself. But if you don’t carve out the time to work on self-improvement, health, well-being, then it’s never going to happen. Life takes over and you live in reaction mode and not creating mode. If you want to change your life, you must take time to do it. A little time each day is enough, start with 30 minutes, let it expand with time to an hour or more. Turn off your phone, do not allow yourself to be disturbed. The world can wait for you to take care of yourself today and each day. But it is not a gift, it’s a choice. If you choose giving yourself this daily gift, you will be amazed at how much more you can accomplish with less effort. ____________________ When I first started practicing yoga & meditation at home, there were all sorts of distractions. But the distractions will fade with time if you create the space. Here’s how: schedule time each week as to when you want to do your yoga practice, meditation, gym or fitness time. Don’t compromise this time slot for anything else! Show up for yourself at these times every week or day. Eventually your phone will stop ringing during the time you give to yourself. People will inherently know that you are unavailable during specific times, and you can completely focus on yourself. Tomorrow is day 1 of #alofallforinversions can you believe it?! . For day 1 we have Down Dog! Believe it or not, downdog IS an inversion! So if you think you can’t do inversions because your not an “advanced practitioner”, you CAN! . Welcome to week 4: #PressYourFlow . Happy rainy Friday! @jadebellyyoga and I are bringing you another fun and challenging flow - one pose in, one pose out! . This week we have #revolvedhalfmoon ➡ #stagpresshandstand ➡ #twistedlizard . #Stagpress is very similar to a split press, except I feel like its a bit easier on the hamstrings since you dont have to straighten the top leg 🤸🏼‍♀ I added a switch in #staglegs cause Im extra 🤣 . Swipe for my weak side (which is verrrry weak in this press lol). You can tell I dont work it enough. The block helps a ton to get hips higher for the press. . Swipe again for something Im going to start doing occasionally, now that my wrist is mostly healed. Im going to do a weekly long hold with straight legs (in whatever inversion we work each week) just to check in and see where I am. This was my 1st attempt and I hit about 53 seconds - which is pretty great! Hoping to hit a minute again soon. TOE-TAP HANDSTAND COMPRESSION THINGS 2 . 1: Place two yoga blocks against the wall shoulders distance apart. Lie on your back with your hands on the blocks. Turn your hands so that your fingers point towards the sides of the room. This will keep your shoulders in external rotation and makes it MUCH easier to push your hands into the wall. (If you try it with your fingers pointing down towards the floor rather than out to the sides you will see that it takes ALOT of wrist flexibility to make it work and it becomes difficult to keep pressure in the hands) Press into your hands and straighten your arms. Then, using the strength of your abs, curl your legs up, bringing your toes to your wrists and hollowing out through your abs. Slowly roll down one vertebrae at a time lengthening your back down to the mat slowly and then repeat! The slower you go and the more you can suck your lower belly in and up as you go the better. Remember to flex your feet and keep your legs straight. Pointing your toes is not wrong, it will just make it a lot harder to feel this one. . . . 2: Come into a forward fold at the wall with your hands on blocks. Come up onto tip toes. Press down into your hands and hollow out your front body. Lift one leg and tap your toes to your wrist. Repeat. . . Want to take class? This pose represents the hours upon hours upon hours of practice it took to be able to do this pose. It did not happen in an instant, and if it did, it would have probably resulted in injury.⁠ ⁠ Do I think this is a normal or even reasonable shape to put your body into? Not really.......I think it is possible to do it safely IF your bone structure allows. ⁠ ⁠ I can still do this pose today, but I dont practice it very regularly -- I may include it if I focus on hip openers in my practice and my body feels warmed up and ready. ⁠ ⁠ I love discovering what the human body is capable of, but am not willing to compromise my physical health in the pursuit.⁠ ⁠ It all comes down to mindfulness and discernment....⁠ ⁠ Are there poses like this in your practice? 🇺🇸Did I say I need to slow down to anyone? During confinement I definitely said that because I realized that I was doing too much ! Before coming back to Paris about a week ago, I was a bit stressed to get back to “my running everywhere” type of routine, even though I said I won’t do as much this year. 3 days after coming back, I already forgot about everything I said , and I’m already back to my crazy life and you know what I LOVE IT! Then I realized I was focusing only on arm strength and no flexibility. I started stretching and practicing my splits. That made a huge difference. Dont forget to stretch those legs. Vietnamese is my primary language; English can be too; and Spanish is always a fave when traveling. 3. Since I journal by the book growing up, I learned how to write backwards from right to left. 4. I have alot of allergies, so I don’t eat red meats; my body loves raw food veggies and seafood, altho I can easily mob an order of extra crispy dry rub lemon pepper chicken wings, flats only. 5. I completed my 200hrs YTT in 2015, been practicing yoga on and off for ~6yrs while it’s my 3rd year posting ig yoga as a journal for my practice. 6. I began my healing journey in 2005 when I tried psilocybin for the v first time. 7. I have been to burning man a few times and developed self-sustaining skills and self-actualization mindset. 8. My self-love journey helped me learn to love myself to the core and connect to my source of energies, my inner G. Before that, I was really disconnected to myself and my emotional intelligence was failing me. 9. Besides yoga and energy work, I also have a sacred Buddhist practice to work with my ancestors, angels and ascended masters. 10. The If just one person in this room doesnt like me - I failed or I want to say no/yes but I dont want to offend somebody thoughts.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This behavior a) means that youre probably a wonderful, caring soul and b) will not make you happy or do anything else for you in your life ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hear me out: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You will make mistakes in your life, when you look back you will find situations in your life you could have handled smarter, your yeses and nos will offend people, the way you speak, dress and act will offend people. . PLAYFULNESS . It doesn’t matter how old you - you can always find a way to be in touch with your inner child. The older we get the harder some of us find that connection, due to responsibilities, pressures and social anxieties - but a fantastic way to work on this is on your mat and in your yoga practice. Finding joy in simple things like we did as children is the first step. Also allowing yourself to find joy and ease in your practice, laughing at yourself when you fall out of a posture, or tumble out of an inversion, or wobble in a balance. Sometimes it’s worth stepping out of the serious and focused mindset and just letting yourself have fun and enjoy the more playful side of yourself and your practice. What helps you feel playful?
