#三菱一号館美術館 #museeorsay #paulmathey #mitsubishiichigokanmuseum ポール・マテイ《室内の女性と子ども》 1890年 油彩・カンヴァス オルセー美術館 Paul Mathey, Enfant et femme dans un intérieur, 1890, huile sur toile, Musée d’Orsay Photo©️RMN-Grand Palais (musée d’Orsay) / Hervé Lewandowski / distributed by AMF - @mitsubishi_ichigokan_museum on Instagram

#Chiens #Chiensart #Toutous #artmoderne #Bonnard #PierreBonnard #masterpiece #matin #breakfast #labrador #cafe #modernite #artlovers #artcollection #painting #yoyomaeght #maeght #arthistory #modernart - @yoyomaeght on Instagram

@mondomostreskira @skiraeditore - @palazzorealemilano on Instagram

Did you know that today it is Love Note Day? 💌 Let’s go back to the 17th century, where an elegantly dressed woman looked up expectantly at a maidservant, who has just handed her a letter. What was this letter about? The seascape on the wall behind them may well allude to the epistle’s subject: during the 17th century, the sea was often compared to love, and the lover to a ship… 🖼 The Love Letter, Johannes Vermeer, c. 1669 - 1670 #Rijksmuseum #Amsterdam #LoveNoteDay - @rijksmuseum on Instagram

In our tumultuous world today, when I crave tranquility, I enjoy paintings like this one. A maid pours milk from a pitcher into a bowl. She looks down, focused intently, performing this simple task as if it’s the most important thing in the world. Vermeer has captured a quiet moment in Holland. In Vermeer’s day, maids were generally portrayed as luscious objects of desire surrounded by mouthwatering foods. Though Vermeer keeps some of that conventional symbolism — cupids in the baseboard tiles, uterine jugs, erotic milk-pouring, and a heat-of-passion foot warmer — the overall effect here is quite the opposite. Rather than a Venus, this is a blue-collar maid, a down-to-earth working girl...working. She’s broad-shouldered and thick, balanced on a sturdy base. Because of the painting’s lines of perspective, we the viewers are literally looking up at her. Vermeer’s maid embodies that most-prized of Dutch virtues: the dignity of hard work. While the painting’s subject is ordinary, you could look for hours at the tiny details: the crunchy crust of the loaves of bread, the broken window pane, the shiny brass basket, even the rusty nail in the wall with its tiny shadow. Vermeers Kitchen Maid or The Milkmaid (c. 1657–1658) is at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. To read Ricks full blog entry visit ricksteves.com/blog (link in bio). Diego Velázquez Tavern Scene with Two Men and a Girl c. 1618–1619 “There are many who are considered one of the greatest, but far fewer who are thought to be the greatest. In the history of western painting, besides Raphael, Titian and Rembrandt only Velázquez belongs in this club. Manet called him the painters painter, and Picasso painted a host of paraphrases to uncover his secret. The essence of his magic was perhaps put most aptly by a contemporary writer, Francisco de Quevedo: Velázquez did not mimic reality, he created it. In this Tavern Scene and similar youthful bodegons (kitchen or tavern scenes named after the bodega, or inn) naturally the Spanish genius does not unfold in full maturity. Common folk populate the canvasses, in apparently banal situations, as if pages from the picaresque novels of Quevedo and his peers had come to life, where the larks of crafty servants and other villainous ruffians tickled the readers fancy. This startling naturalism often invited claims of Caravaggios influence, but at the time Velázquez had not even seen the pictures of the Italian vagabond. Even more importantly, in Velazquez there is no trace of Caravaggios violent coarseness, however vulgar the subject may be, and a kind of calm, puritanical solemnity vibrates in the air. We can only guess at the exact story behind the image, but whether we see them as scheming gaol-birds or characters from an exemplary story, the figures presence has weight and significance - no less so than the kings who populated the works of his mature period.” #paintings #painting #artlovers #famousartists #famousart #artlegends #masterpieceart #artmasterpieces #thearts #everythingart #arteverything #artislife #artislife🎨 #dailyart #fineart #arthistorian #arthistorynerd #arthistory #historyofart #artlove #diegorodriguezdesilvayvelazquez #tavernscenewithtwomenandagirl #17thcenturyart #diegovelazquez #velázquez #velazquez #diegovelázquez #baroqueart #szépművészetimúzeum - @artpreciate_the_day on Instagram

(TRIGGER WARNING) They say sleep is for the weak, and so I pump my blood with caffeine, shot after shot, wrestling with the cold night breeze that tells me stories from the darkest corners of the world. I can only jot them down, somehow it helps me calm my unsettling nerves . . . //THEY ARE THOUGHTS OF A DISTRAUGHT ELDER SISTER, A POST PUBESCENT CHILD AT A FAMILY DINNER, A CONCERNED PERVERTED NEIGHBOUR WITH HIS TELESCOPE BY THE WINDOW, AN ONLOOKER FROM A RESTAURANT, AN ANXIOUS MOTHER AT HER DAUGHTERS CHRISTENING// 1.My sister once told me chocolate wrappers reminded her of condoms. I dont know what scares me the most, the fact that shes ten or that it made her smile//I live amongst strangers in my own house. 2.We pray for the homeless and curse the government for its tax implications. But the zomato orders keep coming//No I will not donate Rs.2 for charity, have you seen the delivery charge? 3.He doesnt care for her bad knees. Shes his wife after all, she should know pleasing his manhood came with a cost. And so she blows up his ego along with his erection//After all, men need to be told theyre big to feel big. 4.Once I saw a man give away all his food to a beggar just to pick up change from his collection. That day I learnt theres no selfless good deed// I guess Joey was right after all. 5.Fairy tales are for children, they said, and your hair almost reach your gentle curves. Lets talk about the bad men who like to tug on that hair//In this world, sex was casual and rape, glorified. . . . As I retire my pen for the night, Im inundated by the words written infront of me. These are voices of a few among the millions that send me their screams.I can only hope my mind grows deaf, fading into the night sky like the stars that seem to be missing tonight. Its perfect , I think. A starless black canvas for the nights that reek of pain and despair. The perfect setting for another creation. I pick up my pen. ©the__gypsysoul__ - @the__gypsysoul__ on Instagram

Laurits Andersen Ring (1854–1933): At Breakfast, 1898, oil on canvas, 52 x 40.5 cm, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, Sweden . . . In Rings present painting, seated at the breakfast table reading the morning paper is the artist’s wife, Sigrid Kähler. Light streams in through the open door, and outside we can make out the lush green of summer. The year is 1898 and the Danish artist couple have been married for two years. The newspaper – a copy of Politiken – serves as a reminder of the world outside. Ring had been an early subscriber to Politiken, a ‘leftist’ Danish daily newspaper, when it first started to publish in 1884; it played an important role in the formation of the Social Liberal Party in Denmark, and remains one of the country’s leading ‘broadsheet’ papers.
