Hi! 👋🏻 And, Happy Tuesday! Joy here from @lunchesandlittles again sharing a simple- yet often overlooked feeding tip! We get questions daily about how to get picky eaters to eat more healthy foods- or even where to start; specifically with veggies. 🥬🍅🥕 - A game-changer for us was when we started offering smaller amounts of new, or less-loved foods. Sometimes that simple change, highlighted above,👆🏻can make all the difference. - Another strategy we’ve implemented is the #loveitlikeitlearningit approach created by @veggiesandvirtue. She talks a lot about pairing less-liked foods with more loved ones over on her feed, and also continuing to expose, expose, expose. 🙌🏻 - So, what does that look like here? 🤔👆🏻Let’s break it down: LOVE IT FOOD(S): 🥪 Peanut Butter and Raspberry Jam Sandwich (@spreadthelove) LIKE IT FOOD(S): 🍓 Sliced Strawberries w/ Farmer Cheese (@lifewaykefir) and Veggie Chips (@traderjoes) LEARNING IT FOOD(S): 🥕 Baby Carrots- only a FEW! -On the left the child is being offered too much of something they dont like. And for them, it may be all they see; 👀aka overwhelming. The meal on the right is identical, except we’re offering a smaller exposure to the child, alongside other more liked, or loved options. Of course, this may not solve all your feeding issues- but, for some this little change may just help you go from no way, to okay. 😭😳➡️😜🙂 *And no, maybe not overnight! Confession: it has taken us months of small exposures to get our youngest to even allow green beans to be on his plate. 😭😅😳 These days, he still does not eat them, but he tolerates them being there- which we’re claiming as a win for now. 🏆 - - @kiddobloom on Instagram

D I N N E R . . . . . Sloppy Bobs • Strawberries • Watermelon • String Cheese • Chips . . . . . We had what we call Sloppy Bobs [after my oldest son, Robert’s favorite meal as a kid]. I picked up @impossible_foods plant based hamburger grounds. Let me tell you, they are the first I’ve ever had that were identical to real meat. They didn’t have a weird texture you run into a lot with plant based crumbles. It was delicious! Any meal that meat eaters make, I can make vegan. . . . . Have you tried @impossible_foods before? . . . . Do the best with what you have on any given day🙌🏻. Maybe its the end of the month and youre running low on money and food. Maybe youre tired. Maybe youre postpartum and youre doing your best on no sleep. Maybe the kids simply dont like anything but a sandwich right now. Maybe the kids arent very hungry for lunch and you dont want to waste food Maybe insert-any-other-reason-here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Im not say to never offer fruits and veggies. Im simply pointing out that some days we have good reasons why a sandwich or a sandwich and crackers is whats for lunch. And thats fine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because I know youre already doing your best and you dont need to be shamed or judged about your choices. Maybe you dont even feel like you have choices and youre making it all work anyway. I see your efforts—whichever way they may look when it comes to feeding your kids—and I applaud you. Some days and some months run more smoothly than others and your best is good enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (It might also help to think back to what you ate for lunch as a kid. I bet money it didnt usually involve a green veggie and look, you turned out JUST FINE😉!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉🏻Find the easy Uncrustables method by clicking the link in my @yummytoddlerfood profile and tapping this image or here: https://www.yummytoddlerfood.com/recipes/lunch/easiest-homemade-uncrustables/ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #lunch #feedingkids #reallife #noshameparenting #kidsfood #toddlerfood #toddlerlunch - @yummytoddlerfood on Instagram

Those who know me well, know my admiration for Kahlo and her art! So when these beautiful ladies came up with an idea of Food Art as a collaboration, I couldn’t help but take literal inspiration from Frida herself. This is my first attempt guys, be kind 🙈🙈 Used Miso rice, Nori, carrots and cheese and a bit of tomato peel to create this! Also the cling wrap, my rice just won’t hold the shape 🙈😅 Thank you for this collaboration of #connectonfoodart @experiments.of.bengalikitchen @dibyascookbook @when_food_looks_good @thekolkatacook @nivtalks @the.fat.table @contempocooking @dineart.in #connectonfood #foodstyling #foodart #desperateattempt #globalfoodcircle #plating #fridakahlo #fridafood #frida #flowerpower #foodmagazine - @gobblinggogo on Instagram

We know businesses and organizations have philosophies and mission statements but have you ever thought about one for feeding your family? I have been having tons of conversations with parents again Im hearing from parents who all desperately want to raise children with a healthy relationship with food and are terrified they are doing it wrong EVERY. SINGLE. THING. We say as parents and the way we present eating and food and food relationships to our kids seems so huge! Parents are lost on: What being healthy means and how to raise “healthy” kids How to explain to children why we eat certain foods more often than others How to talk about food without using the terms ‘healthy or ‘unhealthy, good or bad (and why we generally don’t recommend using labels) most importantly parents want to spare their children the negative experiences, challenges, and trauma with food that they’ve dealt with in their own lives. Supporting parents in raising healthy intuitive eaters with positive food relationships is what I do one on one with clients and these conversations had me thinking of how I could do that on a larger scale to support more parents as they: Gain clarity on what healthy even means as a goal for raising kids and how to create a family food philosophy so that every time we serve meals or talk about food we know that it reflects the goals we want for our kids in the long term But- I can’t do this alone and I don’t have all the answers. This idea and vision is missing an element- and thats the magic that only you can bring which is why I am looking for an awesome group of parents to work with me to shape this thing! So- if you join me as a founding member and you’re willing to help contribute ideas on how we can make this THE best online program to support parents in raising intuitive eaters, I’m willing to extend a very exciting founding member price. Imagine how much more enjoyable food can become with a guiding star at mealtime. With that in your back pocket you can stop guessing and hoping and feel confident in what you say and do in serving your meals! If you are ready to become a founding member shoot me a message for all the details! - @ahuvard on Instagram

When your little asks for a specific food, do you offer anything else with it? . Its totally OK to give them what they want, but even better to offer a couple of other items on the plate too. This helps expose littles to new/unfamiliar foods and can increase the nutritional value of a snack or meal. . Often Eli will ask for something specific for a snack or meal, and Ill happily oblige (if the time is right) but usually Ill pick a few other things to serve him to. The key is to play it cool. I dont ask about the other foods, I simply prepare the snack then set it in front of him, or where I want him to eat his snack and let him know its there. Then, wait and watch. More often than not, he eats a variety of things that are put on the plate, and not simply the loved food he asked for. . Think this wont work for your little? Give it a try! Id love to hear how it goes! . Need some friends for your kids snacks? Let me know so I can provide some toddler approved ideas! - @fuelingmamas_and_littles on Instagram

Last time I went to the supermarket with a client she asked me this..(It’s also one of the top nutrition questions I get)👇🏽 ⠀ ⠀ How do I choose a healthy cereal for my kids? 🙋🏻♀️ followed by How do I get my kid to eat actually eat the cereal I pick? 😂 So lets be real, one thing is buying a cereal you are confident in and the other is getting your kids to eat it. (Swipe left to see a super simple strategy I use) #ad⠀ Not surprising to me at all since a recent survey found more than half of parents say cereal is their children’s favorite breakfast food.⠀ ⠀ This mom was really confused about what to look for in a cereal. I gave her my shopping tips and she then responded: OK great, so how do I get him to eat it? (true story)⠀ ⠀ Turns out nine out of ten (89%) parents say their children’s preference is one of the most important factors when deciding on breakfast foods, followed by convenience (85%), and then key nutrients & vitamins (82%). Im happy to partner with @GeneralMills to show you HOW to choose a nutritious, affordable, & convenient cereal for your kids. (P.S I buy this at home and my daughter Alicia, loves it, can you tell? 🤣)⠀ ⠀ How to choose cereal for kids? 👇🏽 ⠀ ⠀ 1️⃣Aim for whole grains and ideally high in fiber! Fact: Cereal is the # 1 source of whole grain and fiber for all Americans at breakfast! 😱 This one has 8g of fiber per serving!⠀ 2️⃣Look at the added sugar -Aim for 6g (~1tsp) or under. This one has 6g! Keep in mind the serving is 1 cup, toddlers might eat less. ⠀ 3️⃣Look at the ingredients particularly whole grain. If its fortified with vitamins even better! Wheat Chex has 100% of the recommended intakes (DRI) of iron for kids (18mg) & is fortified with calcium (130mg), vitamin D, and zinc. ⠀ ⠀ So, what if your kid is not there yet? A super simple strategy I like to teach is to mix 1/2 of whole-grain cereal with another (ex. Plain cheerios with Honey nut cheerios) to decrease added sugar without sacrificing the taste your kid loves. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #sponsored #kidsbreakfastideas #BigGCereals #wholegraincereal #healthycereal #highfibercereal #feedingkids #kidfood #kidscereal #healthybreakfast #kidsbreakfast - @nutrichicos on Instagram

Doesn’t it kinda feel like our parents had it easier than we do? • Megan here 👋 A lot has changed in the last few decades when it comes to feeding kids {and parenting in general 😂}. Nutrition has become a much bigger priority for many families, and there’s a lot more information available about how and what we eat. • Social media has compounded the pressure we might put on ourselves to serve our kids “healthy” foods. We feel like how our kid eats is a direct reflection of our parenting and our effort. It’s exhausting and overwhelming. • Please hear this today: nutrition is not black and white. There is so much room in the gray. Food represents more than just nourishment. • To be clear, there’s nothing “wrong” or “better” about either of these images - they’re more of a visual representation of the expectations we sense from others or put on ourselves about how our kids “should” eat. Food is food, and let’s be dang grateful when we have enough of it to eat. • I want to break it down to 5 tips to consider when it comes to your child’s nutrition: 1️⃣ Eat together when possible, and eat the same foods as a family if you can. 2️⃣ Offer water as a primary beverage, aside from any milk your kid might drink. 3️⃣ Try to serve a veggie or fruit with each meal, even if your kiddo isn’t eating it yet. 4️⃣ Make sure meals are satisfying by using oils and fats to cook, and offer some sort of protein food (can be plant-based) with each meal. 5️⃣ Offer your kiddo a daily vitamin D supplement with 600 IU vitamin D (12+ months throughout childhood). • There has been some good in how we have evolved over time, too: ➡️ Reusable lunch storage has come a LONG way. Now parents have tons of options that keep food safe and prevent leaking. Shown on the right: @bentgo Kids Stainless box {#neversponsored}. ➡️ We have more variety at the grocery store - this means that you can likely access more flavors, nutrients and textures in the types of foods you eat. It’s also great for our allergy families! ➡️ We as a society are pretty much over the low-fat craze. Buh bye, fat-free all the things. • feedinglittles.com - @feedinglittles on Instagram
