Here are some stills from our video shoot for The Red Bedroom directed by Jyson McLean. This was the first of two days of shooting and we shot this in the warehouse at Skateboard.com thanks to @todswank We worked all night until 3am painting backdrops and setting everything up and then shot the next morning starting at 9am. Jyson had rented a bunch of mannequins but when they went to pick them up the rental place told us it was by piece, not by entire mannequin. The budget was super slim and most was going to film cost so he had to decide what to do- which is why there are a bunch of mannequin bottoms but no tops haha. I feel invalid, not sick enough, like a joke. All bc I havent ticked all of my ED’s boxes. If you relate, I feel you, but this is CRAZY: In the UK/Europe we diagnose using the ICD. In the USA you diagnose with the DSM. There are profound differences in each diagnostic manual. How can we compare diagnosis when there isnt even a global way to diagnose? Look at this study: Chenieux et al 2 psychiatrists independently diagnosed schizophrenia (SZ) in 100 patients using the ICD and DSM. Results (swipe to see visually) Psychiatrist 1 diagnosed 26% of patients with SZ using the DSM and 44% of patients using the ICD Also psychiatrist 2 diagnosed 13% of patients with SZ using the DSM and 24% using the ICD. That’s huge difference in results! America has more inpatient units than Australia. Guess what that means? Less places in ip in Australia! My treatment team are against any treatment that isnt community based unless its absolutely medically critical. Not all teams think this, so going ip cant define your degree of sickness. Some use ip as a first resort, others as a last. My ED service doesn’t even have an inpatient unit so everyone local to me doesnt even have this option! Let me spell this out. Unless you have the same team, using the same book, in the same country, with the same resources - you cant compare anything. And even if you do have the exact same situation as someone: There are so many extraneous variables that will change day to day, hr to hr that can impact your treatment/diagnosis. Mood of your team? Covid? Answer this: Are you mentally suffering? Du hate the life you’re living? If you said yes: That is sick & valid enough! Dont compromise a prospect of full recovery bc of someone else’s subjective interpretations of your miserable reality/ the resources available to you. I dont care whether you fit their criteria or not, The system is ludicrous & not standardised. Are they living in your pain? NO... who are they to define how sick you are? I always think its twisted how I say “you’re sick”, Knowing people will feel better after. But you are sick. Whether I see sickness or health doesnt matter. History may be made by those who write it but if you take an honest look back you could be surprised by how much you can learn . I was yesterday years old when I discovered that I am a (distant) descendant of a slave owner. Turns out, my great great great great great great grandfather Josiah was the owner of an enslaved African man known only as “Caesar.” So yesterday, my dad and I went to a small burial ground in rural Massachusetts to clean his grave . I don’t really know what to make of this new discovery of my descendency except to say that it has affected me quite profoundly and saddened me deeply. It breaks my heart that my family lineage, no matter how far back, participated in any way in the shameful and grotesque institution of slavery . America was built on the backs of men like Caesar for the benefit of men like my ancestor Josiah. That legacy is very much alive and well today. TEACHER FEATURE: Chris Eldridge @crittereldridge Congrats to Chris Eldridge for being awarded Instrumentalist of the Year last night at the Americana Music Association Awards Event! Were so excited to have him on board as one of our instructors! Applications open in just a few weeks, October 1st! As a member of Punch Brothers since the bands inception, guitarist Chris Eldridge has been at the vanguard of acoustic music for much of the past decade. Although initially drawn to the electric guitar, by his mid-teens Chris Eldridge had developed a deep love for acoustic music, thanks in part to his father, a banjo player and founding member of the seminal bluegrass group The Seldom Scene. Eldridge later gained in-depth exposure to a variety of different musical styles while studying at Oberlin Conservatory, where he earned a degree in music performance in 2004. During his time at Oberlin, Eldridge studied with legendary guitarist Tony Rice. After graduating he joined the Seldom Scene with whom he received a Grammy nomination in 2007. In 2005 he founded the critically acclaimed bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters. At the 2007 International Bluegrass Music Association awards Eldridge and his Stringdusters bandmates won Emerging artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year for their debut album, Fork in the Road. Meanwhile, in 2005 he had caught the attention of mandolinist Chris Thile, who enlisted him, along with banjoist Noam Pikelny, violinist Gabe Witcher, and bassist Greg Garrison to start working on an ambitious side project. Soon after they decided to focus all of their collective energies into band and Punch Brothers was born. This #albumoftheweek is another all around great album from the 1995. True Believers was a success for Phil, unfortunately it would be his last album to be apart of the mainstream CCM scene. Though it was one of Phils biggest successes he said about the album True Believer is really the most unlike me of any album Ive ever done, in my personal opinion. It was more of a manufactured concept: Were gonna make a pop album for you thats going to launch you into the next ten years.I dont know if it did. Its an unusual album to listen to for me, but there are a couple of good songs on there, though. Some of those songs were True Believers, Salvation Army Band and Son of Man. This would be the end of Phils years in the mainstream Christian music market but many great albums were still to come!
