The easing of restrictions has allowed us to open three brand-new playgrounds 🙌 The playgrounds at Aitkins Road (West Warrnambool), Mahogany Gardens (Merrivale) and Pappas Drive (Dennington) are all ready for action in time for the school holidays. Please maintain social distance where possible, maintain good hand hygiene and get tested if you have any COVID-19 symptoms. All three projects used funds made available through a variation to the Victorian Government rate cap. In May 2019, we were one of only two municipalities granted permission by the Essential Services Commission to implement a variation to the rate cap. Del Mar Foundation approves $180,820 donation to support our community. The current Covid-19 pandemic has had devastating impacts on our country, state, county and city. Since March, we have increased our support of various Del Mar-based organizations to help mitigate the effect of this crisis. The Foundation’s Board of Directors has now approved a $180,820 donation to be made to the City, which will restore funding for budget items important to our community, connected to the Foundation’s mission, that the City had to cut from its budget because of the crisis. Tourism represents the Greater Palm Springs area’s number one industry. In 2019 alone, visitor spending was over $5.9 billion and supported over 53,000 jobs. When the coronavirus hit this spring, it represented a devastating impact on the local economy, forcing area hotels and outdoor attractions like the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells and the Living Desert to cease operations for nearly three months. Now, both have reopened and are excited to welcome back travelers who have been cooped up inside for months and are eager to once again return to the desert oasis. “I can’t imagine anything more important right now than getting people back to the resort,” said Jason Baer, the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Regency. “Coming out and having an opportunity to be away from people and breathe in fresh air just changes your perspective and gets guests to feeling more normal.” The nine cities represented in the Greater Palm Springs area are hopeful that the future is bright. Developers who just purchased one of the largest undeveloped properties in McKinney hope to start construction next year on a huge residential community. New York-based JEN Partners and Dallas Oxland Advisors plan to build almost 3,400 homes in their Painted Tree development. The site is on the north side of U.S. Highway 380 near Lake Forest Drive, just west of U.S. Highway 75. JEN Partners bought the 1,100-acre tract from Collin County’s Brinkmann Ranches earlier this month. It’s one of the biggest such land buys in North Texas this year. On Wednesday, the developers met with McKinney officials to start on the planning. “By the end of 2022, we could have our first residents living there,” said Oxland Advisors Tom Woliver. “This is the first major community in the region to be conceived of since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and our plans reflect the new reality for homebuyers.” The community will focus on outdoor living, with 200 acres of greenbelt and parkland featuring 25 miles of trails and pathways. A 20-acre lake is at the heart of the community. Painted Tree is being laid out with a wide variety of housing — everything from townhomes to big estates. “We are looking at potentially three, four or five different builder partners,” Woliver said. “It could be one of the larger projects in the Metroplex.” The first phase would have several hundred homes, with prices for the smallest townhouses likely to be just under $300,000. The timing of the new McKinney community couldn’t be better. Demand for new homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has surged in the last year, and builders are scouting to find properties and put up houses. “There is a scramble to go out and find new positions,” said Ted Wilson, principal in the Dallas-based housing consultant Residential Strategies. Initial design proposals for a comprehensive revamp of London’s second-largest garden square, Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, have just been unveiled. Created by architecture practice Tonkin Liu for landowner Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, the designs are being pitched as “a global blueprint for shared urban spaces”. GBI began looking for ideas to improve Grosvenor Square back in 2017, with a view to upgrading the green heart of the community and bringing the gardens up to spec with the new batch of luxury homes and hotels that surround it. A design competition was launched in 2018, and Tonkin Liu was appointed earlier this year. The idea from the get-go was to create a template for contemporary urban landscaping that could inform other projects around the world. Tonkin Liu’s initial designs take inspiration from the original 1720s layout – when Grosvenor Square was created – and update it to “future proof” the square and “help do its part in tackling climate change”. These proposals enlarge the garden by some 3,000 square metres and reintroduce the oval shape from the original design, first laid out nearly 300 years ago. YMCA of Metro Atlanta announced September 18 that it has relaunched the John Manning Playground Fundraising Campaign to raise an additional $25,000 to reach its $200,000 goal for a new state of the art playground for the Robert D. You will see our staff taking down tape, disinfecting the playgrounds, and putting up signage with State guidance today. Hellyer County Park : San Jose One of our favorite parks to visit! 🦆 This park has everything! 178 acres with a lake, birds, picnic area, restrooms, loop trail around the lake, biking areas, off leash-dog parks, leashed dog walking, a splash pad and a parking lot. Hours: Year-round 8am-sunset Entry fee is $6.00 Large parking lot in front of the playground and near the lake. A note as of June 2020 “Overcrowding of parking lots and trails can cause temporary closures. This is a fluid situation designed to control the amount of vehicles and visitors at any given time. Turnover can happen fairly quickly as park staff monitors the flow of attendance. Exciting news – all 90+ playgrounds will be re-opened by early afternoon today. It follows the re-opening of our two skate parks yesterday. Our crews were out from early this morning removing the ‘closed’ signs and inspecting the playgrounds and outdoor gym equipment following the sites’ forced ‘hibernation’. When visiting playgrounds, skate parks or outdoor gyms, remember to: 🧍↔️🧍 Follow social distancing rules of 1.5 metres, while gatherings should be no more than 10 people. 🧼 🤲 Practice safe hygiene and wash hands regularly. I took our youngest on an adventure date today. He wanted to try a new park. Lucky for him, I keep a huge list of places we need to visit. 😂 And off to Sugarhouse Park we went. This was our first time and we were amazed at how HUGE this park is. There is so much space—lots of open grass, huge trees, a big pond, a creek, and this really fun playground. We explored all over, but his favorite part was feeding the ducks—Of course! 😉 I liked the shady, little creek.
