Participants from Adult Day Services (ADS) Brea took part in a “Voting 101” presentation facilitated by ADS Life Skills Coach Mona and ADS Program Director, Senior Services Kelly. The session focused on the importance of voting and the obstacles that people with disabilities might face at the voting polls. They talked about the “We Are The 25%” (WAT25%) campaign Easterseals SoCal launched on 9/14, reviewed the resources shared via the campaign’s website: http://wearethe25.org, and discussed what each person can do to participate in the voting process. In a landmark decision, the Senate has approved the Fast Pace programme for B.Tech and Integrated M.Sc students. In the final semester, students can now go for long Internship programs, or engage in Entrepreneurship endeavours, or do research within the Institute itself. Departments have been instructed to readjust the courses such that there are no laboratory courses in the final semester. Students from 3rd semester onwards will be allowed to take one extra theory course in each semester in addition to the regular academic load provided he/ she has a CGPA greater than or equal to 8. The required courses can either be completed through the above mechanism or by doing an equivalent course in SWAYAM. The internship/ entrepreneurship work/ research work done in the final semester shall be allowed in place of Research Project-I and Research Project-II of total 8 credits. I had to break some terrible news on CNN this morning. A brutal attack in Reading on Saturday has now been declared an act of terrorism. An eyewitness told me victims were enjoying picnics in the sun when suddenly a lone attacker went on a stabbing rampage. Three people lost their lives, and three others are recovering in hospital. Under the coronavirus lockdown in the UK, parks are one of the few places people can meet up and relax. This tragedy is sure to shock the country. Health A good night’s sleep is paramount for the health of your brain and body. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, sowing anxiety and worry along with it, getting a healthy amount of quality sleep probably isn’t as easy as it used to be. And getting good sleep is more important now than ever. “We know that sleep is directly related to immunity in terms of the physiological response in our body: If we’re not sleeping we can reduce our immune system In other words, your quality of sleep plays a direct role in your body’s ability to keep you safe from the novel coronavirus. 1. Maintain a regular routine . No matter how your life has been affected, it’s of the utmost importance to keep a regular routine in order to get good sleep. 2. Don’t nap excessively. Having a normal sleep routine should help to “anchor your entire day. Instead of napping, use that healthy routine to get up early and start getting things done. 3. Get some exercise . Yes, your gym is probably closed, but exercise should still be part of your daily life. Daily exercise is still just as important, especially for sleep. 4. Structure your news intake. Be diligent in limiting how many times per day you check your phone, and for how long, to read news related to the pandemic. While the United States is home to thousands of miles of trails for cyclists, this project aims to connect the entire country via a single route. Unprecedented. _ The completed trail will allow people to see a variety of historic landmarks and natural wonders unique to each state. In Montana, for example, the Great American will traverse The Headwaters Trail System–a historic route stretching back to Sacajawea and Lewis and Clark’s 1804 expedition. Penelitian awal mendapati proses saringan yang dijalankan terhadap perempuan itu berkemungkinan tidak dijalankan dengan betul, namun pakar berpendapat insiden sedemikian jarang berlaku dan risiko sebarang komplikasi daripada ujian calitan kekal rendah. Pakar Otolaringologi-Kepala dan Pembedahan Leher dari University of Iowa Hospital, Jarrett Walsh, berkata petugas perkhidmatan kesihatan profesional sewajarnya mengambil langkah berhati-hati ketika menjalankan ujian saringan terhadap pesakit. Ive been back at the gym lately after a long time off and have noticed its one of the few places that I still, despite myself, display a kind of performative masculinity in order to protect myself. I instinctively butch it up even though theres no urgent reason for me to. Its been a source of enormous personal frustration lately that Im still unlearning this, still unravelling the expectations of my gender that I clung to for many years. But I want to express, both for myself and others, that unlearning the behaviours youve built up as a cocoon to protect yourself takes time. Behaviours that have developed over a long period of time take a long period of time to come away. Its important to practice self-compassion and patience towards yourself and anyone around you still learning to become themselves. A little bit of compassion can go a long way. Dear Laurent, How are you? I watched your new cooking show and and tried out your madeleine recipe. It was great, everyone loved it here at home. You must be thinking why am I writing to you after so long while we also occasionally speak when Radha puts you on the phone. My little one just asked why are french fries called french fries if they are not even french and I was reminded of you and our strolls after our classes. I never thought Id meet a stranger with whom I could share things I had never even told myself. Everything that could be lost in translation was caught by emotions. You were the first person to look beyond my words, who understood my silences and pain. You were different. You wanted to see me fly and write my own story. When you did that little act of kindness outside that cafe when we met for the first time, you made my fear of an unknown land go away. Even when things were scary, from that day on, I knew Id be okay, only if I could be as kind to myself as you were to a complete stranger. You knew my insecurities and helped me realise that its okay to feel that way, its okay to care about your self worth. I never really had respect or love for myself, infact I did not even know what I wanted or needed, until you came along as a mirror. You picked me up, and taught me to believe in myself. When I said my goodbye, you did not chase me. You accepted my wish with grace and without burdening me with could haves. Satish made mistakes but I did not choose him only because he was my husband or my childrens father. I went back to him because he was my family, he was my home and I knew he needed my help to be a better partner. You helped me change my life, Laurent. This did not only save my marriage but has also helped me in being a better parent and raising my kids into strong, considerate people. It has made my relationship with myself a lot more beautiful too. When the Governor of Guam announced we had to close our business and stay at home, we did. My mother in law wouldn’t hold our newborn baby for fear of spreading Covid to her. She would just come by and we’d take the baby to our front door, and chat with us from our gate. It was like this for a month, before she finally had the courage to come in our house, with her mask and gloves on. It makes me sad thinking about those days, how scary it was, even with only a few cases on island. —— After ten weeks, we were finally given the green light to open the gym back up. It was amazing to see all of our members, working off the weight they had put on during quarantine, but also smiling again. We obeyed all of the health guidelines, I doubled the amount of classes I was teaching because we didn’t want it to be crowded. We followed the protocols, we did our part. —— Fast forward to the present. Somehow the Governor and many within her administration have caught Covid. 1000+ cases, 10 deaths. The only notable thing the Governor has said was that “the virus is a bitch”. —— We’re back in lockdown. Not one ounce of accountability from the governor, in fact it seems that we, the people, are to blame for not obeying orders. No one In my circle has caught it, we’re not the party or bar hopping type. Our idea of going to the bar is a barbell and weights. Our health is paramount, we followed the rules you laid upon us. Instead of Playing the blame game, perhaps the words you are searching for are “Guam, I’m sorry, I will do better”. —— I worry for the future. We have enough money saved to pay our rent for a few months, but how many other businesses can survive these lockdowns? Dengan semakin meningkatnya kasus corona, banyak oknum-oknum yg tidak bertanggung jawab memanfaatkan kesempatan ini dgn cara menimbun masker dan hand sanitizer lalu di jual lagi dengan harga yg tinggi. Misalnya harga satu box masker yang berisi 50 dijual dgn harga Rp300.000. Padahal, harga normalnya hanya Rp20.000 per box. Bagi kita yang mampu mungkin hal ini bukan lah suatu masalah, namun di sisi lain masih banyak masyarakat kecil yg ekonominya pas-pasan kesulitan mendapatkan masker maupun hand sanitizer. Untuk itu, pemerintah membuat peraturan bagi oknum yang tertangkap tangan menjual masker atau hand sanitizer dengan harga yang tinggi, maka oknum tersebut akan menadapatkan hukuman berupa 5 tahun penjara. Lin Wood, an attorney for 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, threatened to sue former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday on behalf of his client for defamation after Biden tweeted a video that identified Rittenhouse as a white supremacist. There is no evidence that Rittenhouse is a white supremacist. He currently faces murder charges in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for shooting three rioters last month, two of whom died. Rittenhouse has argued, citing video, that he acted in self-defense. Biden’s video played audio from Tuesday night’s first presidential debate — in which, ironically, President Donald Trump said that he would denounce white supremacists — and claimed in the accompanying text that Trump had refused to do so. At one point, the video showed a photo of Rittenhouse in Kenosha, Wisconsin armed with an AR-15 during ongoing riots. India becomes the fourth country after the United States, Russia and China to set for the hypersonic club with a successful first flight-test on 7th September 2020, of its indigenous Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle(HSTDV). The test was performed by DRDO chief Satheesh Reddy and his team.The vehicle apparently uses air-breathing scramjet technology to propel to hypersonic speeds. Eventually, it’s expected that the technology demonstrator will inform the development of future hypersonic cruise missiles in the upcoming five years and also pave the action for many such advanced missiles in the future. Scramjet typically processes properly at high velocities, requiring some kind of booster, generally a rocket motor, to accelerate it to regulating velocity. Hypersonic speeds are normally defined as Mach 5 or above. It performed on all types of parameters including combustion chamber pressure, air intake and control guidance. Success! Hong Kong officials have seized a historic 26 tonnes of shark fins! An estimated 38,500 endangered sharks, valued at $1.1 million USD were recovered inside a pair of shipping containers from Ecuador, revealed on Wednesday. Unfortunately, 90% of the shark fins were from protected species including 31,000 thresher sharks and 7,500 silky sharks. Customs officers arrested the importer, however, the 57-year-old man has been granted bail pending further investigation. South China Morning Post reported, “two containers arrived from Ecuador within 10 days of each other in January, but the huge haul was only discovered when customs officers opened the containers at their Kwai Chung cargo examination compound on April 28 and May 4.” Aside from the two Ecuador consignments, customs officers this year had already seized 15 tonnes of shark fins worth HK$5.4 million and made two arrests. The one to one detailed photo reviews are the part of learning in Ambitions 4 Photography Academy. As a mentor, I feel exited to see my students make progress through reviews. I shared few improvisations, in the product photography work of my full time diploma student, Godwin Infant. He shot a sleek red wine bottle, a fruit juice tetra pack and a headphone as a part of his product photography project final project work in our studio, ‘Shadows’ today. The suggested improvisations were about the concept, lighting, props and composition. I’m so grateful for the people who have been watching my YouTube videos. In the article I talk about how in my first video I was sweating because I was so nervous just looking into the camera. Putting myself on YouTube was terrifying. Akua Wood, founder of Sheabutter Cottage from Reading, has also donated 1,000 masks to Ghana during lockdown. She was selected from thousands of applicants to take part in #SheCan365, which told the stories of 365 female entrepreneurs over 365 consecutive days in exactly 365 words. The #SheCan365 project began when multi-award-winning online marketing specialist Helen Pritchard challenged former journalists Michelle and Christian Ewen to publish a new, inspiring story online every day for an entire year. Akua Wood, Founder of Sheabutter Cottage said: Out of all the female entrepreneurs in the UK, I am honoured to have been chosen to be included in the #SheCan365 project, which is a world first I hope telling my story will inspire all future female entrepreneurs – empowering them for success. As well as manufacturing vegan, hand-made, natural, fair-trade beauty products and toiletries in Reading, I also set up a co-operative in Ghana to help produce the sheabutter we use. I cant honestly tell you how many times Ive done it. At some point I lost count. If you were to ask me how many times Ive sat down to come up with a blog, business or brand idea, Id be unable to give you an honest answer. I dont know how many times Ive gone through the process of trying to get clear on my passion, mission and purpose. What I can tell you is what theyve had in common. Let me give you some context. Over time Ive had mottos like: 👉Transform your normal and 👉Enliven your everyday. There were ideas based on: 👉The true diversity of a womans daily life, 👉Developing more interactive travel planners and 👉Living the life youre passionate about. A huge reason that they all fell apart was that I never felt like they fully embodied all that I wanted to communicate, but I really didnt know what was missing. Weaved through all of the ideas and decisions to give up was a yearning. What I truly desired was the freedom to: ✨Discover and carve a legacy authentic to me. ✨Define my own definition of success and live by it. ✨Live the life Im meant for. ✨Inspire others to do the same. There is no 1 blog, project, experience, business, idea or brand that would fulfill that. The more I started to understand that, the more permission I gave myself to explore all of my ideas. Purpose is not a goal to work towards, but a way of life. Its weaved consistently through the actions someone takes over time and how they show up in life. Purpose is in the process. 🤔 When you look at your own life, what keeps coming up for you? Why did you make the big life decisions you did? What was your motivation for the projects you took on even though everyone else doubted you? The decisions you make in life are full of clues as to what truly matters to you. PSBB Depok Diperpanjang Lagi Guys Pemerintah Kota Depok memperpanjang pembatasan sosial berskala besar (PSBB) hingga akhir Oktober 2020. Keputusan ini menyusul adanya lonjakan kasus Corona hingga dua kali lipat di Depok sejak bulan lalu. Berdasarkan Keputusan Gubernur Jawa Barat Nomor 443/Kep.575-Hukham/2020 tertanggal 29 September, PSBB di wilayah Bodebek (Bogor, Depok, Bekasi) diperpanjang hingga 27 Oktober 2020. Keputusan Gubernur tersebut ditandatangani langsung oleh Gubernur Jawa Barat Ridwan Kamil. Memperpanjang pemberlakuan pembatasan sosial berskala besar (PSBB) secara proporsional di wilayah Bodebek dalam rangka percepatan penanganan COVID-19 sampai dengan tanggal 27 Oktober 2020, bunyi Kepgub tersebut, seperti dilihat detikcom, Rabu (30/9/2020). Kepgub itu juga mewajibkan agar PSBB dilakukan secara proporsional dalam skala mikro. Penerapan PSBB disesuaikan dengan level kewaspadaan tiap kota. Sementara itu, juru bicara Gugus Tugas Percepatan Penanganan COVID-19 Kota Depok, Dadang Wihana, menyebut perpanjangan PSBB ini sebagai respons melonjaknya kasus Corona di Depok. Menurutnya, semenjak Agustus lalu hingga saat ini, kasus aktif Corona di Depok hampir melonjak 2 kali lipat. Something really cool happened Friday. I woke up to a online newspaper article from my hometown paper about my travel nurse journey! It was even written by a fellow classmate, John Hamilton, which made it even better! He is such a talented journalist and writer and did a fantastic job with the article. Saturday, I woke up to a pic in my inbox from another former hometown classmate that the article was on the front page of the print newspaper! I’m thankful and humbled to have this stage in my nursing career recognized by the place a called home for 19 years. ❤️ Thankful to John for reaching out and thinking I was worthy of writing about! Medscape Clinical Trend: Pregnancy and COVID⠀ ⠀ A systematic review of 77 studies found that a significant number of pregnant or recently pregnant patients were diagnosed with COVID-19. ⠀ ⠀ The study, published in BMJ, also found an increased risk for preterm delivery as well as the need for invasive ventilation compared with nonpregnant women with COVID-19, especially those with an underlying medical condition.⠀ ⠀ Although the findings may help in establishing guidelines, some experts suggest caution in interpreting the results at this point, as many of the studies used in the review were published at the height of the pandemic and did not include routine COVID testing for all pregnant patients. ⠀ ⠀ A separate study examining the incidence of COVID-19 among maternity healthcare staff in London found that 1 in every 6 workers had SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, with one third showing no symptoms. ⠀ ⠀ Findings suggest that, compared with the general population of the United Kingdom, obstetric healthcare workers had twice the prevalence of seroconversion.⠀ ⠀ In the United States, disease severity in pregnancy has been a particular concern. As it stands, the Canadian workforce is unevenly protected from COVID-19. A lack of access for migrant workers to Canada’s health-care system is a significant barrier. COVID-19 does not discriminate between those who have health cards and those who do not, so the response from the government must address this. No human life is more valuable than another. Temporary foreign workers (TFW) must be offered the essential health-care access needed to protect their well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the need to improve paid leave for migrant workers and to make our EI system more responsive and generous for those in precarious work positions. This is particularly apparent, considering that migrant workers are required by law to pay into EI, having this deducted automatically from their paycheques. Therefore, it only makes logical sense that they can access this benefit without difficulty. The time to act is now, and these changes must be made.
