It’s obvious now that it’s down to socialising that has caused the uptick in cases, not any ‘covid-secure’ businesses such as hairdressers and beauty salons. But they are amongst those paying the biggest price. I understand the working from home plan, but I wonder if Boris and Co have really thought through the devastating impact it will have on so many service-based businesses that rely on office workers coming into big cities. This decision is going to cause havoc for the economy of the hair and beauty sector, an industry that has already suffered greatly. There needs to be real financial help to secure the future of these businesses. **BREAKING NEWS** I ate out for the first time since lockdowns started in May!! Shocking right? 😂 But honestly it was so exciting to be back out enjoying all the amazing food Sydney has to offer, I forgot how much I miss the experience of dining out in a cafe or restaurant. . Ive definitely been a bit more cautious with going out since lockdowns started lifting and as exciting as it is, I think its still super important to exercise good social distancing and make sure youre following restrictions around large group gatherings among other things to not only keep yourself well and healthy, but those around you too. Were extremely fortunate in Australia that our number of positive cases are quite low but this doesnt mean we should completely drop our guard because it will take a long time to return fully back to normal. If this global pandemic has taught me anything, its that we should never take our health or the little things for granted. . Its been a while since my last PR event ! I have still been super careful and social distancing as much as I can. And I have politely rejected a few event invites for the same reasons. But @GryphonDevelopment made me feel safe at the Art of Wonder exhibition ! The event attendees were broken up into very small groups, and everyone wore masks (except when taking photos at a safe distance). This exhibition sits in the beautiful and historic Kerrisdale neighbourhood. It is an exploration into the culture, heritage, and transformation of Kerrisdale. Its an ode to the Seats of the Fairies, which is Kerrisdales original name ! The exhibition showcases this so beautifully by having lush and whimsical installations that transports visitors into the enchanting Alice in Wonderland world ! Every corner, wall, and small spaces in this exhibition is so picture perfect, or instagramable. DOGGIE HARVEST SOUP 🍠🥕🌱🦴 The fall harvest makes this an inexpensive treat, and its packed with antioxidants and phytonutrients. 4 cups water 1 beef rib (about 3 oz ) 1 small sweet potato, peeled, and quartered 1 medium sized carrot 1/2 acorn squash, peeled 1 tsp. chopped parsley ✅Simmer beef rib in water until meat is soft. Discard beef rib. ⚠️ If you have a dog that’s sensitive to fat, remove pot from stove, let cool and place in fridge until fat rises and congeals at the top, so you can skim it off. ✅Add all vegetables and simmer until soft. Remove vegetables and put them through the food processor until they have a creamy texture. ✅Add vegetables back to the broth. Let cool. Remaining soup can be frozen and served as needed. It is the first step in making Royal Selangor products. Casting molten metal into moulds takes skill, courage, steady hands and physical strength. Meet the two men who are crucial in Royal Selangor’s production line. Woo Kok Kin and Loo Chee Leong started with Royal Selangor in 1988, fresh out of school. Now in their fifties, they are experts in their field, and with it comes a sense of accomplishment and belonging. But it has not always been so easy for the both of them. Lack of work experience and having speech and hearing impairments meant that they had to overcome boundaries and obstacles set before them at work. Nonetheless, they were determined to master the technical intricacies of pewter casting, and make something of themselves. “School could be challenging at times. Sometimes the teacher spoke too fast, and we never left the house without a notebook and a pen. It saves time in communicating with people who might not understand sign language,” reminisces Kok Kin and Chee Leong. “My childhood friend, Roy Yong, knew I liked working with my hands. He suggested that I try working at Royal Selangor. I told my schoolmate Chee Leong who also enjoys handwork as much as I do, about it. That’s how we ended up here,” explains Kok Kin. They underwent on-the-job training with Roy Yong, Head of Product Development and Haji Wali, the chief supervisor of the casting section back then. Under their tutelage and the support of their colleagues, both men excelled at casting and made Royal Selangor factory their home for 32 years now. “I’ve learnt that many things are hard in the beginning. But if one patiently sticks with it, it will become easy and rewarding. You must purchase, fill out, and email me the application before Monday September 21st by 8pm. 2. By Wednesday the 23rd you will get a confirmation email. 3. As a vendor there will be strict COVID protocols that you will be asked to enforce at your booth. These protocols will be released next week. 4. Booth pricing and application fees were reduced due to the pandemic and fires. We want to help you make money and get back on your feet. 5. Booth sizes- a half booth is 5’ by 6’. A full Booth is 5’ by 10’. The full Booth will likely get expanded to a 10’ by 10’ but I need to measure out the entire room and make sure we have 6-10’ of spacing between vendors first. Wanita berkenaan pernah menjalani pembedahan hernia elektif, sebelum dikatakan mengambil ujian calitan di bahagian dalam rongga hidung. Dia kemudian sedar bahawa suatu bendalir tidak berwarna mengalir keluar dari salah satu rongga hidungnya. Selepas itu, dia mengadu mengalami sakit kepala, muntah, ketegangan di bahagian leher dan alah pada cahaya, sebelum ditempatkan di wad untuk menerima rawatan lanjut di bawah jagaan saya. Ujian calitan ini bukan perkara baharu baginya kerana dia pernah menjalani sebelum ini dan dibuat pada belah rongga hidung yang sama, malah tiada masalah. Cuma mungkin ujian kali kedua ini tidak dijalankan mengikut teknik terbaik dan batang ujian calitan dimasukkan terlebih dalam, katanya. Walsh berkata, gejala yang dialami wanita berkenaan terjadi susulan radang di bahagian selaput otak. Решить проблему можно только одним способом: наладить режим сна. ⠀ Вы пьете слишком мало воды Ощущения голода и жажды очень похожи, и перепутать одно с другим довольно легко. Многие попадаются в эту ловушку, заглушают жажду бесконечными перекусами и в итоге переедают. В общем, известный совет «Хочешь есть – выпей стакан воды» – не издевательство, а очень здравая рекомендация. ⠀ Вы едите слишком много сладкого Когда мы перекусываем конфетой, печенькой или, например, булкой, весь сахар практически мгновенно поступает в кровь. Уровень глюкозы резко повышается, а потом так же резко падает – и нам снова хочется есть. ⠀ Если голод перетерпеть, организм начнет использовать запасы гликогена из печени, чтобы привести уровень сахара в крови в норму. Но если снова потянуться за печенькой, весь цикл повторится. В долгосрочной перспективе постоянные скачки уровня глюкозы могут привести к инсулинорезистентности и диабету. #celltember2020 Macrophage Macrophages are cells specialized in destruction of foreign elements, which relies on their capacity to eat particles, known as phagocytosis. Initially, this function was associated with the ingestion of pathogens, to avoid tissue damage. However, seminal observations by Ellie Metchnikoff changed this notion. Experimenting with live animals, he realized that macrophages were also capable to eat live (and dead) microorganisms as well as damaged cells, assisting tissue remodelling. All these observations lead him to propose a key role of phagocytes in maintaining the equilibrium of the organism, or homeostasis. Extremely visionary, Metchnikoff also proposed that in vertebrates, phagocytosis evolved from a primitive function, originally aimed for nutrition. Notably, most of his observations were confirmed over the years, leading to him being considered as the father of cellular immunology. However, life was not simple for Metchnikoff. His character and challenging ideas were controversial. In addition, he had a hard life and tried to commit suicide a couple of times. He also had vision troubles, which affected his research. His cellular theory of immunity (1883), in which immune cells would act as an army to defend against infectious agents, was highly criticized by the scientific community. Few years after his essay, scientists led by Paul Ehrlich (Celltember Eosinophil) identified soluble factors present in blood (antibodies) as responsible for the immune response. These two theories were opposed in a fervent war. In 1903, the war ended when scientists showed that soluble factors were capable of increasing phagocytosis, demonstrating the complementarity between these soluble and cellular theories. Peace was finally acted in 1908, when Ehrlich and Metchnikoff received the nobel prize of medicine for establishing the basis for the functioning of the immune system. Er produziert Progesteron, das wiederum die Körpertemperatur ansteigen lässt und dafür sorgt, dass sie für die nächsten ca. 10-16 Tage erhöht bleibt. Deshalb ist der Temperaturanstieg eine sehr sichere Möglichkeit, um festzustellen, dass ein Eisprung stattgefunden hat. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💡Nach einer Befruchtung benötigt die Eizelle knapp eine Woche, um in die Gebärmutter zu wandern und weitere 1-2 Tage, um sich in der hoch aufgebauten Schleimhaut einzunisten. Bildet sich der Gelbkörper vorzeitig zurück, sinkt die Hormonkonzentration ab und die Periode tritt schon ein, bevor sich die Eizelle einnisten konnte. Zyklen mit zu kurzen Gelbkörperphasen sind deshalb unfruchtbar. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉Wichtig: Eine Gelbkörperschwäche lässt sich nicht am Temperaturniveau der Hochlage erkennen und auch nicht daran, wie deutlich oder schnell der Anstieg ausfällt. Das einzige verlässliche Zeichen ist die Länge der Hochlage, die mindestens 10 Tage dauern sollte - gezählt wird von der ersten höheren Messung bis zum Tag vor der nächsten Periode. Wische einmal nach rechts, um in der #kurvedesmonats zu sehen, wie sich eine Gelbkörperschwäche in der Zykluskurve darstellt. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉Nochmal wichtig: Auch wenn die Gelbkörperphase grundsätzlich stabiler ist als die Eireifungsphase, können auch besondere Lebensumstände wie zum Beispiel großer Stress oder das Absetzen der Pille kurzzeitig zu verkürzten Gelbkörperphasen führen. Das ist im Einzelfall unproblematisch und bedarf keiner weiteren Abklärung. Treten häufiger verkürzte Hochlagen auf, würde ich empfehlen, den Frauenarzt darauf anzusprechen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Insgesamt weisen knapp 10% aller Zyklen eine verkürzte Gelbkörperphase auf. Nothing is harder than saying goodbye, especially to an entity and/or people that you’ve grown up with in the course of your career, and life. Ive met you all at different stages in my life. Some of you may have come during the early, awkward days of my PR career; and some might have appeared during my peak. “I went to Van Asselt elementary school, Mercer for middle school, and then for high school I went to Franklin. I wouldn’t say Franklin was a college prep school, because I didn’t feel very prepared when I got to SU since I hadn’t developed great study skills. But growing up, my neighborhood was pretty diverse. My high school was majority people of color. It was really interesting growing up in that community because it was kind of a culture shock when I got to SU, but not really at the same time since I surround myself with people of color. It wasn’t until I sat in a class where I felt that impact of being in a predominantly white class, at a predominantly white institution. This experience was different for me because I went to a high school that was comprised of more low-income students who were children of immigrants. There was a lot of – I don’t know if people would pity us, but there would be a lot of programs to help us out. It was nice because we needed the help, but sometimes it felt like the white savior complex where people would come in and ‘help us,’ and then be like ‘oh can we take a picture of you, take a picture with us’ and say online: we’re doing great things! But I never really saw a follow up after that. Richmond Art Gallery is holding an Artist Salon Webinar: Curators Panel on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 7:00PM, featuring a panel discussion about the behind-the-scenes process that goes into curating at a public art gallery, artist run centre or commercial art gallery, and what the future may hold for these spaces in the coming years. 🔍Presenter: Our next presenter is Wil Aballe (@waapart). Aballe is known as the owner and director of Vancouver-based, Wil Aballe Art Projects WAAP, founded in 2013.
