Привет! Давайте знакомиться! 😅 Давно я хотела написать такой пост 😄. Меня зовут Елена, я из города Коврова (Владимирская область). Я более семи лет содержу хорьков. Практически сразу я начала заниматься хорьками - отказниками. Помогаю им в лечении, социализации и пристройстве. Сейчас у нас в приюте есть несколько волонтеров во Владимире, Муроме и Иваново. Кому интересно - приглашаю в приют: @ferrethelp . Сейчас у меня осталось только два хоречка. Дарт и Тыква. Дарту уже 6 лет, а Тыкве 7. Дарт попал ко мне в 1 год. Его хозяева уехали в США, в штат, где запрещено содержание хорьков. Тыква попала ко мне в 3 года, вместе со своими детьми, которых потом я пристроила. В первые месяцы она совсем не подпускала к себе, кусалась. Но потом она стала любимой и хорошей девочкой 😅. В апреле ушли мои Люк и Лея, друг за другом. Было очень тяжело. Очень сложно терять любимцев 😞. Напишу ещё несколько фактов обо мне. 1) По образованию я олигофренопедагог, логопед. Работала 2 года в школе, в классе для детей с нарушением речи. 2) Я очень люблю читать. Иногда это превращается в манию 😅. Любимый жанр - фэнтези. Сейчас я дочитываю последнюю книгу Робин Хобб и очень грустно расставаться с ней. Включу ее в список любимых авторов. Не понимаю, как я могла пропустить ее раньше 🙄. 3) Я занимаюсь скрапбукингом. Периодически 🤣. Делаю блокноты,обложки на паспорта и альбомы. Пока не делаю на заказ, считаю себя дилетантом. Y’ALL! This is absolutely NUTS. I saw one of our cats playing with something in our yard so I walked closer to see. From far away it looked like it was a snake but as I got closer I thought it was a mouse. And when I got to the cat, I saw a fat tail and thought, “omgoshhhh its a rat!” But then I saw the body and screamed and moved the cat away. I cannot believe this but I’m holding a baby squirrel right now in my (dirty from working in the yard) hands and I am FREAKING out! It’s breathing and it drank some milk out of a syringe already. Does anyone know how I can make sure this baby lives!? Google said to feed it every 2 hours. We have it wrapped in a towel in Beau’s toy tool box. I’m trying not to get my hopes up but I want to save this lil’ squirmuffin’s life. Help! Please! ❤️ - @shalynnelson on Instagram
One small mammal is responsible for helping clear unexploded ordnance and undetonated land mines out of more than 35 acres of land in Cambodia, and on Sept. 25, he was awarded a medal commemorating the achievement. Magawa, a giant African pouched rat, was awarded a civilian award for animal bravery by the Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals on Sept. 25. Its the charitys highest civilian honor and, according to The Associated Press, is equivalent to the George Cross, an award given to British civilians or soldiers who perform acts of the greatest heroism or for most conspicuous courage in circumstance of extreme danger. A couple of our new patients today warrants a reminder. We are all enjoying the cooler temps and everyone loves a nice fire with these cooler evenings but please be mindful that the brush piles make great wildlife refuge. This Eastern cottontail was probably using the brush to hind from predators or possibly just sleeping. She did not know she would be burned out of her safe place. Yes, she is still alive, which amazing, but definitely needs prayers and good vibes sent her way. Please take the time to check the brush pile before lighting the flames. Visually examine, kick around it, and move or shake the limbs to run someone out. Then, this Eastern box turtle was supposedly found and brought to us because she has ocular discharge. In reality, she has multiple health issues because someone stole her from her natural habitat and provided poor nutrition and husbandry. She has severe metabolic bone disease, causing a deformed shell and limbs, along with bilateral ear abscess. Unfortunately, we dont know internally the damage she has suffered. But, we do know this does not happen in the wild and does not happen over night because Mother Nature provides what the wildlife needs. Humans keep interfering with the wildlife, not Mother Nature. So, remember it is illegal to keep wildlife as pets in most states and that you cannot mimic Mother Nature. Even experienced rehabbers have to try extra hard to provide what the wildlife needs and its not easy for us, so what makes you think you can do it and why you should deprive that animal of their natural habitat. Stop being selfish and hurting the wildlife. Baby kiwi photo spam! Please welcome little Bloom who hatched at Rotorua’s National Kiwi Hatchery on Tuesday 29 September, weighing in at 353 grams. Bloom has a rare white patch and has arrived in time to celebrate the start of Save Kiwi Month. The name was drawn at random on TVNZ’s Breakfast show this morning and is a tribute to Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield. The National Kiwi Hatchery reopened to manuhiri late last month in time for the school holidays, with adjusted opening times and discounted entry. The Ngāi Tahu Tourism-owned hatchery had been closed to visitors since the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. All money from hatchery tour ticket sales goes back to fund the hatchery’s work. So, by visiting and entertaining yourselves or your tamariki for a few hours, you are directly supporting its work to save kiwi. Visitors to the hatchery may get a glimpse of Bloom on the daily 10.00am tour as the bird will have their daily weigh in and health check at that time. Lazarus and his brother were the first two rats Ive ever known and loved, even though our time together was so short. Lazarus and his brother were found in the dirt, covered with cockroaches. They were poisoned by their own mothers milk. Even in his last moments, Lazarus was searching for the comfort of his mother. He wasnt aggressive, he wasnt angry. He just wanted his mother. Wildlife Rescue in the Daintree: our latest arrival is a fully grown male Eastern tube-nosed bat (Nyctimene Robinsoni) found on the ground in Port Douglas and delivered to Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas before being passed to us. No broken bones or obvious injury (apart from an abraded swollen right wrist) but treating for possible variables such as infection, cat attack or collision - with hydration, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. Never a dull moment! Our coworker’s mom found a baby opossum in her yard this morning while a cat was trying to get it. She saw the momma opossum with her babies last night as she was just walking by. It appears one of the babies fell off the mom and the mom has not returned for it all night. It was disheveled, dirty and hungry. Our coworker picked up the baby from her mom and took it to our local nature center. They will introduce him to other orphan opossums they currently have and release them when they are ready! You should always wait to take any wildlife baby in if it appears alone. Many times the mom is close by. But given the immediate danger this baby was in and over 12 hours of not being with its mom, it was best to take it to a nature center where they have trained rehabilitators who will care for him and release him once he grows up a little and is able to take care of himself. If you’re unsure what to do with any wildlife animal that seems so be injured or left behind, please contact your local nature center before taking the animal.
