👋 Hi, I’m 5 year old Jamie Flam! I’m very very bad at soccer though you wouldn’t know it from this pic! Let’s call this a “delusional swagger” because let’s be honest I have no idea how this game works, let alone any skill! If the ball gets anywhere near me I will panic, and that panic usually results in me getting a black eye for no good reason, hashtag truestory lol! Seriously, my body has this 🦸♀️ superpower ability to contort itself in a fashion that will inevitably position my eye exactly in line with another players’ elbow, knee, foot, or forehead and then BAM!💥😢 lol. I wish my superpower was flying 🦅 or x-Ray 👓 vision or something but maybe there’s some street cred in the facial bruise game in Granada Hills in 1981? ATTENTION GIRLS/ WOMEN, PLEASE READ THE CAPTION My boyfriend and I were at Target in Newbury Park on Teller road. My boyfriend noticed a strange man getting very close to us. I stopped to open a freezer door and he walked directly behind me and motioned his phone under my dress. My boyfriend alerted me that this man was possibly following us or attempting to take pictures of me. We turned into the different aisles to ensure all sides of me were covered and I was not in his sight. Regardless of what aisle we turned into he continued to follow us...his phone remained on the entirety of the time turned towards me. It appeared he was either talking on the phone with another individual or taking videos. I stopped him and told him what he was doing was disgusting and wrong, he responded with a frantic look shrugged his shoulders, and quickly walked away with his seemingly empty cart. We noted that the man was almost done in self-checkout and waited to exit. We walked to the car, to find he had parked directly across from mine, with another woman in the car. This was increasingly concerning since the woman was not present the entire time he was shopping. The second we approached my car he took what seemed to be a picture of my license plate and sped off. All I can think of is what if I had been alone, or what if it had been one of my sisters... my stomach has been twisted since. I’ll think about you everyday for the rest of my life. The amount of love and support we’ve received just proves how loved and appreciated you were. You touched the lives of so many people and I was the lucky one to be able to call you, dad. All I have now are memories but I wouldn’t change any of them. I’d give them up to have you back but I know that’s not possible. I will remember our early morning practices, throwing the baseball in the backyard, barbecuing dinner, travelling across North America for hockey and every little detail imaginable. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without you. As much as it was one of my dreams to play in the NHL, I know it was one of your dreams to watch me achieve that. I will forever be thankful we achieved that together. I’ll miss looking up over the visitors net and seeing the joy you had in watching not only me, but the game of hockey. That’s all I have for now. Happy Anniversary to my one true love! When I got married at the age of 18 I think there were many who thought we were crazy! This year marks the 40th anniversary of Terry Foxs Marathon of Hope and today marks the 39th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run. Writer @susan_l_goldberg caught up with local doctor, Geoff Davis, who recounted his visit to Foxs room at @theprincearthurhotel after Fox ended his legendary marathon just east of Thunder Bay. Welcome @southbankschool as they do their Terry Fox School Run next Tuesday and Wednesday in Central London! Terry was 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma in his right leg. After having surgery to remove his leg at Royal Columbian Hospital, he received chemotherapy treatment in Vancouver at the BC Cancer Agency cancer clinic. It was here that he saw the suffering of children with cancer. It was here he decided he had to make a difference. “I could not leave [that cancer ward] knowing these faces and feelings would still exist, even though I would be set free from mine. Somewhere the hurting must stop.” In 1980, it was in this spirit of compassion that Terry ran his Marathon of Hope. In 1981, the same spirit of compassion was lit in teachers and students, who invited Terry and his mission inside schools across Canada. The Terry Fox School Run was born, and has been a shining light for cancer research for four decades. This September, our usual “Back to School” plans are anything but usual. But schools are still there for Terry. When Ethan was a toddler, he couldn’t say “Grandma”. Instead, he said, “Geba”. While I didn’t love the name, my Mother-in-Law did. She loved it because her grandson gave it to her, and she adored him; which was a reflection of how she loved. She adored all of her children and grandchildren. Marty was our beloved Geba. Our memories are full of all the ways she lit up over getting to ride horses, taking the boys to ride horses, playing board games, reading stories, telling stories, watching movies, attending the boys practices & games, and sharing sweet treats with us all... being with her people. Throw back Saturday or whatever. One of my best mates Dan Tough and I, coming out of retirement in the ABA grands in Chilliwack Canada around 2007. In practice Dan crashed trying jump some doubles... the bars went forward when he cased the landing.. obviously not doing the Allen keys up tight enough on the extremely rare these days Wha Fong Daddy by TNT...he was fine. Although before I got to him a random kid comes up to me and says ‘How’s your buddy after going down?’ My first first thought was ‘How does he know we are mates’.. My second thought was ‘Is this like a rhetorical question where we perhaps deserve to crash as we have no place being here and he’s taking the piss!’ I wasn’t sure.. As I sit here at the end of Fathers Day I can’t help but reflect on the past as I am coming to the end of an era, an era of being a “father” only. An era where I was the father of 5 children and they were my whole 🌎. They are almost all grown up and on their own now. Being a father is and was about learning and experiencing a variety of emotions! There were the proudest of times, the saddest of times, gut wrenching laughter, uncontrollable tears, indescribable joy, but unbearable pain! It’s learning to understand and cope with all these emotions listed above and being able to find gratitude in each situation or condition and asking myself, “what can I learn”? It’s about learning to let go and to let go when the time comes. Let them (your own children) make their own decisions no matter the sadness, pain, or discouragement it may cause, but at the same time standing for truth and righteousness. It’s about letting go, but loving and cheering from a far. Loving and caring in a way that your kids will never understand until they are at their final stages of being a father or parent themselves. I have failed at understanding all of these emotions listed above at different times, but as I’ve gotten older I now am grateful for all of the experiences and memories of being a dad has given me. It use to be that we as parents use to be #1 in our kids’ lives, but then you suddenly become #2, #3, or #4, and sometimes not even a number in their lives and that is one place where the unbearable 💔pain comes in! I have learned a lot over the last 24yrs and I can only hope that my children will be a better father/parent than I was. I hope my children will have learned from my parental mistakes so that they are better, that they can love more, offer more, and teach more. At this point in my life I have come to understand that Fathers Day is a lot more than just being a Dad! It is also about being a husband! A lot of times I neglected the most important one in our family in trying to always appease my children and that is my beautiful wife, Tricia! Our dream team ready to march in the Opening Ceremony today, 20 years ago!🙏 @natcook_official and @steveandersongold were my family for so many years. We had planned, plotted and perfected every point, every set and every match in the lead up to Gold in Sydney. We had even visualised walking in the opening ceremony and how that would inspire us. However, just before the start of the Games, our National Federation threw a spanner in the works and decided they didn’t want us to walk in it, as we had to play the next day. After Atlanta in 1996, we knew how much this was going to mean to us. It’s so unbelievably inspiring and it was going to be in our HOME country. No way did we want to miss it! We were ready to play, nothing could stop our performance…. So we fought and fought them and finally they decided that we would have a “practise” run and they would decide after that. One night, a week or so before the Games started, they drove us all into the city dropped us off and we walked and walked until about midnight. Then, we had to practise early the next morning. They said if we could handle that, then we could march! Well, what do you think happened? We practised our little asses off and there was NO WAY they could say no!!
