[University of Toronto’s Hong Kong Students calls upon the University’s removal of the Hong Kong Police Force’s Recruitment Listing] A University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Club and University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Association Joint Declaration on Hong Kong Police recruiting at the University of Toronto Recently, University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Association (UTHKSA) and University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Club (UTHKSC) has noticed that the University of Toronto’s Career & Co-Curricular Learning Network, posted a job listing from the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) to recruit students as police inspectors. We are aware that such recruitment listings from the Hong Kong Police Force have been posted by other universities globally such as the University of California, Berkeley, McMaster University and other institutions as the HKPF is putting in more effort to recruit overseas students. Although it is understandable for schools to provide diverse opportunities for students, UTHKSA and UTHKSC will refuse to support or promote such recruitment efforts from the Hong Kong Police Force and we call upon the University of Toronto to do the same. The reason why we are taking this stance is because the Hong Kong Police Force has been seen violating human rights by abusing their authority and using police brutality on both protestors and ordinary citizens on multiple occasions during the ongoing Hong Kong Movement. Actions of such had been recognized and documented by Amnesty International, in which they described these actions of the police force as “a disturbing pattern of reckless and unlawful tactics”1 We believe that these unjust and brutal actions of the Hong Kong Police force do not align with the values our university believes in. In particular, UofT has always embraced accountability and integrity along with other core values whereas the Hong Kong Police Force has displayed that they do not respect these moral principles. Estos hechos se pueden apreciar en la segunda y tercera foto. El bloque negro tuvo que accionar para poder avanzar. Al lograr romper la valla policial, nos encontramos con otro encapsulamiento, ya no solo eran ateneas también había granaderos y quedamos totalmente encerradas. En respuesta, el bloque negro accionó, la policía comenzó a lanzar petardos y gas pimienta directamente. Estos actos dejaron heridas a varias compañeras, muchas de ellas se cubren el rostro porqué se sienten más seguras, no porqué accionen. El bloque negro enfrentó estos actos de violencia y represión, exigiendo la liberación de todAs. Con pintas, baile, consignas y la canción sin miedo amenizamos por un momento el encapsulamiento. No crean en los medios grandes y amarillistas, quienes distorsionan la realidad a su conveniencia, somos muchos los medios independientes que vivimos para comunicarlo.
