OPRA BOARD ELECTS LEADERS, TWO NEW MEMBERS APPOINTED The OPRA Board of Directors met in late June and elected Kristen Marks of Centerville-Washington Park District as OPRA President for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Amy Bowman Moore of Erie MetroParks was elected Vice President and Treasurer. “Kristen and Amy are well known to our membership. Each has served OPRA well in different leadership roles for a number of years,” said Woody Woodward, OPRA Executive Director. “They will continue the strong Board leadership which has led the growth of our association.” The Board also accepted the resignations of James Gant and Kelsey Whipp. Each resigned from the Board as they have taken positions outside the parks and recreation profession. In accordance with the OPRA Bylaws, unexpired board terms are filled by appointment of the OPRA President. Effective July 1, 2020, Kristen Marks has appointed Paul Williams of Five Rivers MetroParks and Malik Willoughby of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department to fill the remaining year on the unexpired terms. Williams, who currently serves as a Conference Exhibit Hall co-chair, has served OPRA in many capacities for more than 20 years. A certified parks and recreation professional, he has been with Five Rivers MetroParks for more than 25 years and is currently a Regional Park Manager. Willoughby recently completed a three-year term on the OPRA Board. He serves as the Recreation Administrative Manager with Columbus Recreation and Parks where he has been a member of the staff since 1998. “While we will miss James and Kelsey, we are very fortunate to have professionals like Paul and Malik who are experienced leaders in the profession and are ready to provide leadership as members of the OPRA Board,” Marks said. - @opraohio on Instagram

Local activists are looking for answers after they say a man pointed what appears to be a weapon at them during a protest Wednesday night on South Main. L.J. Abraham said they had just finished marching down South Main in solidarity with Breonna Taylor. A screenshot from a video shows a man who appears to be pointing a weapon toward protesters on South Main. No one has been charged with any crime. Abraham said things had just wrapped up when two men yelled at the group from a second-story window on South Main, causing a verbal altercation. At one point, he said he was coming downstairs and then said, ‘Don’t worry about it. I’ll be down in a minute,” she said. A few minutes later, she said, one of the men came down pointing what she says was a gun. She said she feared for her life. “He pulled out a pistol,” Abraham said. “He had his hand on the trigger and he had it pointed sideways. He pointed it at me. And then he pointed it at everyone else.” She said she notified police immediately but as of Thursday, no arrests have been made. Nagpur gets new DCP, 6 ACPs; Maknikar, Khedekar shuffled within city In line with the spate of reshuffle in police departments across Maharashtra, IPS Lohit Matani has been transferred to Nagpur as Deputy Commissioner of Police. Matani who was the Commander of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) will lead Nagpur police as new DCP, a notification released by the Home Ministry stated on Wednesday night. Besides, few reshuffles also happened within Nagpur city as well. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the family of St. Louis Police Officer Tamarris Bohannon who was senslessly shot and killed in the line of duty after responding to a call on August 29. Officer Bohannon was 29 years old and had served with the SLMPD for 3 years, he now leaves behind his wife & 3 young children. This terrible sensless tradgedy is a reminder of the danger and sacrifice these men and women make for our city, every single day. In the end, God might be forced to utter not in my name. Humanity must trump religion now, and always. No death should happen for faith reasons. Man must live in freedom always; without the fear of death. Humanity must breath. The future awaits our victory. The future, therefore, must not belong to those who would kill a fellow human merely for the utterances he has made. Whoever murdered another man, only him should be killed by the hands of the law and not the mob. Only the law is authorised to kill the murderer, not the mob. Only the rule of law-unshackled by religious dogma and untainted by inordinate legal manipulations. Never the prejudice of the powerful, or the blind sentiments of the fanatic. Humanity must be free to choose, like God has implanted in us the ability of choice. Take away that fundamental freedom, and watch as you strip away the very essence of what makes us humans. On June 30th, Deputy Chief of Police Craig Hamilton retired from UTC to pursue more time with family and other interests. Although COVID-19 complicated things, we managed to have a private celebration with his immediate family on his last day. While we are proud of his service and accolades, we know his girls are going to enjoy his new phase of being the best Band Dad out there. Hamilton totaled over 10 years of service with UTC and we appreciate all his effort in training, exercises, paperwork, adjunct teaching for Criminal Justice courses, and talking our ears off in the office. This time in 2016 we were working in the studio @fifthelementz on the songs Ahmed and Children of Diaspora for the come back tour in September. As usual I left things way too late and we had to pull things together last minute. Originally I thought maybe we could do 3 or 4 shows maximum but when London sold out in less than 24 hours @sam_gill_music acted to expand the tour to more places in England, Scotland and Wales too. I was excited but nervous because I hadnt actually recorded any new music in five years and shows were selling out without the new stuff we promised even existing yet. Trauma can manifest in many ways sometimes putting you in a place of hyper vigilance when you dont need to be and even though I was about to do something very fun I was full of anxiety. It was a great period of time which looking back I should have taken the time to enjoy more. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and had patience with me at the time. Lavar @fifthelementz was being the hilarious person he is but must have been frustrated with my willingness to leave things so late. Eventually we got the song mixed and out about a week before the tour. When the London date came I was suprised that people already knew the lyrics to Ahmed. Big up to all the people involved in that 2016 tour. Eventually all shows apart from Liverpool and Cardiff sold out! @aboodii2121 @hamooza93 worked as tour managers despite the fact they had never done it before. Thank you to @cococh8n and @akalamusic for encouraging me to do it, getting me in the studio and connecting the dots. It is sad to think many of the venues we performed at those 4 years ago might be going out of business during this period. The support was there when I didnt even realise it and I am thankful to all who came to those gigs in 2016. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey on Wednesday announced a plan to start equipping state troopers with body-worn cameras. The plan, which a press release says involves private sector suppliers, calls for the Arizona Department of Public Safety to provide troopers with 150 body cameras in the coming months. “Increasing public trust and keeping our state troopers safe are issues on which we can all agree — and we plan to move forward on this good idea,” Ducey said in the release.
