A page from New York magazine, December 1976, with an article by @suzyslesin about Manhattan Ad Hoc Housewares, a store recently opened by Julia McFarlane and Judith Kress Auchincloss (@judyauchincloss) on the Upper East Side; a SoHo branch opened in 1982. Ad Hoc featured Metro wire shelving, laboratory flasks (for use as vases or urns), wire baskets, stainless steel hospital soap dishes, and movers pads, to name just a few of the industrially-sourced products that would become all the rage, as chronicled in the 1978 book High-Tech, by Slesin and @joankronofficial. Now, Ad Hocs founders have produced a booklet on the history of the much-loved store, written by @elainelouie1, designed by Stefanie Green, and edited by @victoriaborus. Last night I dreamt I was on tour in Europe and it made me incredibly nostalgic. Found some pics from my first Euro tour in 2016 where I had my first sold out show in London. It was super cramped but amazing vibe, I was so nervous I think my voice shook the whole show but the crowd was so great and supportive. The last show was in Brussels and then my friends and I partied hard for my birthday, such good times. ❤️GRATITUDE! Thanks to all who joined the Livestream yesterday and to all those who are still catching up and watching up to now. Yesterdays TINA show is a mixture of highs and lows, excitement and harsh reality, patience and understanding. Before the pandemic, we had been sooooo spoiled for several years having our own tech crew, light crew and the mere pleasure to have 2 hrs. of soundcheck. My own voice mix and band mix in my in ear monitors. Well, we were given only 15 minutes to plug in everything before the show after the last performers. With a completely new crew with no knowledge of what we needed even with a 3 piece plus tracks was an absolute nightmare... I cant imagine what they would do with an 8 piece when safe distancing is applied on stage. There were bigger bands that followed but we were the first ones... the experiment. It would have been much much easier and faster if Daddy Cool Steve Marshall was with us coz he knows exactly what to do with our Tina mix. With mosquitos or little flying bugs after us while performing and off stage, we were really humbled to just be able to perform for the frontline workers who are bravely risking their health getting infected. And YASSSS... with no big crowd in the huge Maple Ridge fairgrounds, Im pleased to say we rocked it. ici la 1ere photo de la série aime ton quartier .  Cette série de photo vise à montrer Bordeaux sous un autre angle, et revaloriser les quartiers et leurs habitants. Le quartier.  Le quartier des capucins, à la victoire est centré autour de la place du marché autour de laquelle de nombreux commerces ont ouvert. Ces commerces sont des restaurants ou des magasins dits “exotiques” que ce soit pour la nourriture ou l’entretien des cheveux afro.  Cest “ le quartier des immigrés de Bordeaux”. En effet, c’est la zone où les portugais et espagnols étaient en arrivant à Bordeaux, petit à petit, les magasins exotiques tel que celui du Sri-Lankais LESLI ont ouvert et toute une vie se crée autour de ces commerces.  Chacun retrouve un peu de chez lui, notamment grâce à la nourriture et autres produits que l’on peut se procurer. Ils permettent aux “étrangers”, leurs enfants, aux français ayant voyagé, de se rappeler des souvenirs de voyages, d’enfances, des saveurs et senteurs.  Les gens.  Souvent austracisés, les gens qui trainent autours sont considérés comme “ des dealeurs/drogués/ alcooliques” ou tout simplement des personnes dangereuses. Or, lon peut avoir du respect si lon en donne. Nous avons passé une matinée entière avec les gars du quartier, ils travaillent, ont une vie à coté de leurs retrouvailles quotidienne. Eux aussi, le quartier leur permet de se retrouver, de pouvoir parler leurs langues, d’être “en famille”.  Jewell, nous a laissé carte blanche pour faire un truc étrange. Dj la nuit, model la journée, il est au centre de la vie des bordelais. Fitzs energy was infectious. He made an impact on anyones life he entered. Affectionately known as RoyBoi to his family and close friends, he embodied the perfect mix of jokester, protector, provider, and a San Francisco fixture. An SF native that never let anyone forget it, Fitzroy made some of his lifelong friends at Riordan High School, Balboa and his time at Independence high. Prideful of his upbringing, and the city that made him who he was, one line we will always remember is You aint from Frisco! A line he was quick to shout at the drop of a dime. We loved him for that, and his deep affinity for his beloved hometown. Fitz loved food. The first to ask you Hey, have you eaten yet? Hes the friend youd be eating with and is already asking where are we eating the next meal, even before our appetizers came out! The self proclaimed home chef, mastered his smoked meats, and always extended an invite to his friends and family to try his next concoction. He loved to break bread with loved ones, loved to cook, loved to eat, and even better, loved to do it while watching Bay Area Sports. An avid Niners, Warriors, and Giants fan, Roy was proud to rep his teams and never on a bandwagon! Fitz had unconditional love and loyalty for his friends, new and old. He was the one to remember that shirt you liked from 2 years ago, your birthday and your favorite cake flavor, he was thoughtful, kind, and generous. The unparalleled love he had for his late father Mario Sarmiento and his mother Lolita Sarmiento was like no other. He cherished his family and protected them at all costs. It is with great sadness that on Saturday, September 26th, we lost our beloved Fitzroy. His unexpected passing has brought an unimaginable uncertainty to his loved ones. Many have reached out with love and prayers, asking how they can help. This fund is to raise money for Fitzs memorial services, and to support his mother who he left behind. The news was revealed by Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky during the 2020 Zurich Film Festival. “He just got [a] baby, by the way,” Kossakovsky said. “A beautiful son called River.” Kossakovsky connected with Phoenix—who worked with Kossakovsky on his new film Gunda—after the vegan actor delivered his historic, animal-rights themed acceptance speech for the best actor award for his starring role in Joker during the 92nd Annual Academy Awards earlier this year. After quietly dating for several years, Phoenix and Mara got engaged in 2019. During the 2020 awards season, Phoenix and Mara publicly protested animal agriculture and had a hand in transitioning menus at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Oscars—all ceremonies that either fully eliminated animal products from their menus or substantially increased plant-based options this year. Immediately following Phoenix’s Oscar win, the duo—along with their mothers, Earthlings director Shaun Monson, Los Angeles Animal Save Founder Amy Jean Davis, and Farm Sanctuary President and Co-founder Gene Baur—headed to meat plant Manning Beef in California to rescue a cow (Liberty) and her calf (Indigo) from slaughter. I remember the morning of the filming being kinda stressful and we were having technical issues, my voice was hoarse, my wardrobe wasn’t fitting and few other things weren’t going as planned And I started to feel really overwhelmed and stressed out about the whole experience . Then I stopped myself, went into one of the offices at NPR, I got on the floor and prayed. I asked God, Let your will be done. I surrender my ego and my need to have things be perfect as I planned. This show may not be perfect but let it be pure, powerful and honest Let it bring more light into the world. Let it lift someone up from a dark place and show them your love. Help them remember who they are and who’s they are. I called on my ancestor the Great Mountain Eagle Woman who taught both me and my mother to sing and asked that she be present and help me with my nerves and assist in the ascension of the sound . I envisioned the sound frequency gushing throughout the planet 🌍 like a healing Love Balm. And it did just that!
