I’ve been preparing the remainder of David Haxton‘s films for scanning at Colorlab. They’ve been doing 4K scans and then sending the data to David, who is color correcting/grading everything himself. Unfortunately with his few color films, the only surviving elements are faded prints. Here I was inspecting and comparing the two decent extant prints of his fantastic film Landscape and Room (1978). Both are very faded, but the print which has a slightly yellower base (lower strip in the photos) has somewhat better color differentiation, so it will likely be the source of the restoration. As you can see, the film is entirely in negative polarity, so hopefully in some ways this will make the color correction easier... - @preservationinsanity on Instagram

The albums that shaped Mizmor - pt. III Hell - I (2009) Where do I even start with this one? As many of you know, I am the live drummer and a recurring session vocalist for Hell, the one-man project of my good friend MSW. Being involved in the project has never curbed the impact and influence of its sonic qualities on me though. My first exposure to the music of Hell was going over to MSW’s house to record the vocals to “Brutus,” the first track on this album. Although we were both headed down a similar path of heaviness through Sorceress and mutual personal exploration, the places he took the sound were breathtaking. The elegantly restrained drumming, the warmth of the extremely low guitars, the clanging of the bass as if the strings were about to fall off, all worked together so effectively to create this sonic hellscape. Powerful. This album became an instant favorite and was on repeat for my friends and I in Salem for quite some time. It’s the album where my shrieking vocals ripened, cementing a truly evil sound for the album. That’s what I love most about “I” - it gives you that feeling in your stomach that something is wrong/evil. As a kid raised Christian, whenever I got this feeling from music, it both scared and attracted me. It made me feel like I was sinning just by listening. MSW is one of the most talented individuals I know and I’m so grateful for my time in this life making music with him and being his friend. We’ve played in bands together since we were 14/15 and there’s no question that I am a different musician because of him. Mizmor’s doom sound would be a whole heck of a lot less sludgy and mean if it weren’t for Hell. Who knows if the shriek would have evolved to occupy such an important space in my vocal approach if not for this album/sound. MSW is such a brutally talented artist and the heavy begins here. I never really talk about this. Maybe because I am a very optimistic person or maybe I don’t like to talk about my insecurities (who does?). It took me 5 years to feel comfortable in my own body again. It is crazy what 1 toxic relationship can do for your self image, self worth and overall health. I don’t think I have ever shared this but I haven’t felt myself for so many years. I was disconnected from my own body for a long time up to the point where I couldn’t enjoy the things that I should FULLY enjoy. I got an MRI scan, tried different types of birth control (ugh), talked to my friends but nothing seemed to help. Until I realized I needed self healing. For me that was also a spiritual journey (not an easy one either). Not being able to connect with your own body, not understanding the pain or discomfort is so hard and mentally exhausting. After 5 years I can finally say that I feel better now. I feel like myself again. I know so so many girls and women will experience the same after abuse so I am letting you know: you are NOT alone, what you experience is normal and you are not crazy. Be good to yourself and also know that I am always here for you. Some things that have helped me: finding pleasure in small things, healing music, crystal healing, journaling, having a supportive partner, talking with friends who went through the same, eating healthy, yoga and pilates, alone time, emdr therapy, reading books, listening to podcasts, following @iammelwells 🤍 #healingjourney #healingthefeminine #feminineenergy #selflovejourney #selfhealing #wholeagain #loveyourself - @josieboog on Instagram
