Ma come presentarmi? 🤔 . Molti mi dicono che sono una ragazza allantica, o meglio, che ragazze come me ormai non ce ne sono più (il che secondo me non è poi un male).Questo perché fin da piccola sono sempre stata diversa dalle mie coetanee, molto tranquilla, riservata e per niente festaiola, seria... La mia più grande passione è larte: potrei stare ore a guardare mostre, musei, libri... Ma non arte contemporanea, lì proprio non ci capisco nulla. La mia seconda grande passione è la cucina e ho deciso di condividerla con tutti voi, utilizzandola anche come spunto di riflessione per far conoscere dei piccoli fatti su di me e imparare a conoscere chi mi sta seguendo in questo viaggio di scoperta personale e raccolta di ricordi. ♻️ ¿Por qué usar ropa de segunda mano? o ¿por qué nos debería importar alargar la vida de nuestra ropa? ♻️👕 Les cuento un poco. La industria textil es de las más grandes del mundo, dentro de ella encontramos agricultura, manufactura, cuidado de telas, uso, diseño, reciclaje, desechos y mucho más. Casi que todos los países de alguna u otra forma están involucrados en esta industria y en consecuencia, es una de las industrias mas contaminantes y aunque ya se han hecho bastantes avances aún nos queda un largo camino adelante. Podría extenderme más pero por ahora les doy un ejemplo con lo que estoy usando en la foto: 1️⃣ Originalmente mi t-shirt era blanca pero después de 2 años de tenerla lo blanco se fue volviendo gris entonces decidí teñirla y cortarla (me gustan los crops!) porque estoy consciente que para hacer una t-shirt blanca de algodón se usan más o menos 2,700 litros de agua (SOLO UNA!😰) y que #thrasher no tiene reportes (fácil de acceder) de donde hace su ropa lo cual no me permite verificar de donde viene y en que condiciones están las personas que la hicieron (la explotación laboral es muy común dentro de la industria 😔). 2️⃣ Este jeans es de segunda mano (lo compré en @deganivintage) y está en perfecto estado porque un jeans de alta calidad, bien cuidado dura una eternidad. Un jeans utiliza alrededor de 1,800 galones para hacerse sin incluir el agua que se utiliza cada vez que lo lavamos 💧. Entre las dos piezas sumamos 4,800 galones de agua (sin sumar extras), un recurso natural. Entonces, si lo vemos así en realidad al reutilizar ropa o alargar la vida de la que ya tenemos no estamos solo ahorrando dinero, estamos ahorrando recursos naturales y disminuyendo el desperdicio que se crea a causa del sobre consumo (más adelante profundizare en el tema de los trabajadores). И конечно, органический мусор здесь отделяют от остального. ⠀ А мой муж обожает, когда дома чистота и порядок, регулярно убирается сам и ругается, если какая-то коробочка не на месте. ⠀ И вот однажды мне пришел клиентский заказ - чехол в маленькой плоской коробочке. Лежал себе и никого не трогал. Однако Альберто решил, это мусор и выкинул ее. Мне повезло, что бумагу вывозят ТОЛЬКО раз в неделю. И когда я очнулась в поисках заказа откопала его в бумаге на выброс. Выдох. ⠀ Правда была и обратная ситуация, когда заказов очень очень много... ⠀ Я купила клиентке духи Hermes. Пришла домой и оставила упакованный маленький пакетик со всеми ленточками в комнате, где храню заказы. И случайно положила этот пакет вместе с другими ненужными на выброс. Торопилась успеть вынести мусор, ведь бумагу забирают РАЗ в 7 дней. 😭 Пришлось срочно ехать покупать новые духи... AGEs (advanced glycation end products) or glycotoxins are highly reactive molecules thought to accelerate the aging process. AGEs crosslink proteins together, causing tissue stiffness, oxidative stress, insulin resistance, cellular damage and inflammation. . ✔️AGEs are produced internally as natural waste products of metabolism, but the other source is from our diet (foods especially when cooked at high temperatures) . ✔️Women with PCOS tend to have nearly twice the circulating AGE levels in their bloodstream. . 👩🏽‍🦱Women with PCOS also tend to have higher levels of AGEs and AGE receptors in the ovaries (RAGE). : Um brinde ao nosso @brecho_demode que hoje faz 2 meses. O Démodé nasceu em plena pandemia, motivado pela necessidade (em mim) de redefinir meus movimentos de consumo. Eu que sempre consumi tudo (muito!) mesmo tento toda uma consciência política com relação ao universo fast fashion, mesmo adequando meu próprio closet ao desapego frequentemente, mesmo atualizando meu diálogo cada vez mais com o consumo de peças atemporais. Veio janeiro de 2020 e eu perdi minha mãe! Perdi a “peça” mais preciosa do meu quebra-cabeça particular. Tive que (inevitavelmente!) “desapegar” da matéria viva que era ela. Tive que entender que o tempo dela aqui, neste plano, se findava! Toda a compreensão de “desapego” chegou com força, para mim, naquele momento de dor! E veio a pandemia e o mundo parou! E eu comecei a associar as coisas de forma desconexa mas que acabou formando um emaranhado bordado lindo dentro de mim... e eu vi as tantas vezes que minha mãe me dizia o quanto eu não precisava comprar tanto, coisas tão substituíveis, o quanto eu podia ter menos. Juntei a minha paixão pelo universo cacarequento dos garimpos, meus passeios por lugares que mais pareciam caça ao tesouro para encontrar uma peça impagável, um objeto desejado, um acessório imperdível! E tudo isso vinha sendo permeado por conversas deliciosas com a inspiradora @andrea_tupi , que na altura tinha a Galeria Cigana - que foi um projeto lindo que agregava consumo consciente, desapego, moda sustentável, apoio ao pequeno empresário - e para onde direcionei alguns desapegos meus, me tornando uma wortako (que é como se diz ‘parceiro’ na língua cigana) e fui enxergando todo o meu próprio quebra-cabeça novamente. Pensei: É isso! Há algo se iluminando dentro de mim como nunca antes! Esse desejo de levar a sério a análise de peças usadas, desapegadas, observar as marcas de suas histórias, precificar, cuidar, tratar, higienizar, compor, até fazê-las chegar a alguém que vá dar uma nova história ao vestido ou saia ou sandália ou as reticências que são ciclos necessários para continuar. This week, I got test results back for one of my patients, a young woman in her 20s who I met last summer. She hadn’t seen a doctor in years, but she felt fine and just wanted a regular checkup. I learned that she smoked cigarettes and had a family history of type 2 diabetes. . I went over our allotted appointment time (yup, a bad habit of mine 🙃) talking about lifestyle changes to help her get healthier & prevent diabetes, especially quitting smoking and moving towards a plant-based diet. . Her initial bloodwork showed a very elevated blood sugar (hemoglobin A1c near 9.0%) and I diagnosed her with type 2 diabetes. I explained that she would almost certainly be able to improve, and possibly even reverse, her type 2 diabetes by adopting a healthful plant-based diet and becoming more physically active. . I offered her the choice of lifestyle changes, medicines, or a combination of the two, depending on how much she thought she could change. She said she was motivated to eat differently and wanted to try that first. . Fast forward 8 months. She quit smoking. She started working out. And it took her some time, but she adopted a completely plant-based diet. This week her hemoglobin A1c came back below 7.0%, almost out of the type 2 diabetes range. (All this while eating sweet potatoes, fruits, oatmeal, brown rice, quinoa, and beans…plus of course lots of veggies.) . Moments like this are why I went to med school. It isn’t the most dramatic transformation story in terms of the numbers. But it’s dramatic in terms of the fact that many doctors and patients don’t even know that something like this is possible. . I am a primary care doctor seeing patients from all walks of life. Very few of them know before they meet me how passionate I am about nutrition. They just think they’re seeing a “regular” doctor. I love giving people a chance to change. To me, it’s not diet vs medications -- it’s a dialog and a relationship, and seeing what’s right for each individual person. But few people escape my office without a conversation about food, because it’s so fundamental to health. . When I was in Copenhagen I saw Noma’s René Redzepi riding a bicycle and as he passed me I fangirled hard, screamed “HEYYY!” way louder than I wanted to and startled him nearly off his bike. ⁣ ⁣ He said “hey” back, with the kind of casual coolness I’ll never know. Yesterday was the day my book Uplifting Stories was released in the US. It has been over 2.5 years in the making and has been quite a challenge to put it mildly. From finding an agent to creating the proposal to getting it sold to writing it, to the delay in releasing it and now promoting it. It’s has pushed me out of my comfort zone and there’s still so much to do and learn. Full disclosure these last few months have been really hard, I had a huge crash of confidence which made it tough to promote my work when I was feeling really awful about myself. I am blessed to have THE MOST INCREDIBLE FRIENDS, who are always there to encourage, help and support me when I need it. Thank you for being my rocks. But what I realised over these few weeks was that it doesn’t matter how great people tell you are or how well you’ve done if you don’t believe it yourself. You have to make the choice to give yourself credit where credit is due and take the f**** pressure off. Stop beating yourself up because it doesn’t help. Force yourself to change the narrative and give yourself a break. What also helped was reading stories from the book again and reconnecting with the people I’ve interviewed for it, every day heroes doing so much for others, following their bliss and making a difference. Amazing human beings giving me hope for the future. For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Kelly as in Mini Bites by Kelly. For the past few years I have been baking bite sized desserts for family and friends and earlier this year at #dessertwarsmiami I decided I wanted to go all in and make baking a full time commitment and not just a hobby - currently still in the works.
