We miss you, Hornets. Its the 3rd day of the Fall semester, and under normal circumstances, the Union would be so busy, you could hardly walk through it without bumping into someone. Today, the Union is empty. The University Union will remain closed through the Fall 2020 semester, in an effort to minimize the potential for further spread of the COVID-19 virus. The health and safety of our Hornet family has always been one of our top priorities, and this situation is no different. In conjunction with the @sacstate University Administration, we feel that opening the Union presents too much of a risk, and that it would be difficult to accurately manage the occupancy numbers and distancing protocols required for safe operation. We will continue to offer virtual entertainment programming events through @sacstateunique and the Union Games Room video game tournaments. The majority of our campus partners that reside within the building made the determination to continue to work (and serve students) remotely and the campus also announced events, meetings, and gatherings would need to remain virtual through the Fall. However, the @sacstateasi Food Pantry and @peak_adventures (both independent operations with separate exterior building entrances) will be open to the public (see their websites for specific hours/days of operation). Our hope is that by early Spring, it will be safe for us to fully open again. We will keep you informed as we learn more. Jesús Villarroel Director de Caritas Diocesana, Pbro. Pablo Cadiz Vicario Pastoral y la Caritas Parroquial. En este sistema de Salud se estará prestando servicios de medicina general y pediatría a Cargo de la Dra. Mirelvis egresada de la UCV y voluntaria del equipo de Caritas Diocesana, continuando la relación con las instalaciones de la Casa de la Caridad Santa Ana para la entrega de medicamentos y ayuda para exámenes de laboratorio según la disposición de los proyectos de la Pastoral de Salud. Terminando la apertura se realizó una pequeña visita a algunos de los beneficiados de este centro. Friday our offices each closed for a half day (while the other was open) to hold our annual staff meeting. 📁 During this meeting we update on office protocols, complete required HIPAA and OSHA training, and more. 💉 After the meeting we had a flu vaccine clinic for all staff. We require staff to be vaccinated to help fight flu. 😀 Well be offering many flu vaccine options throughout the flu vaccine season - clinics in our offices 🏢as well as drive through 🚗. Check your childs portal to sign up - if there are openings youll see them in the portal. If there arent options it means were waiting on a new shipment of vaccine. ☎️**Please be patient and dont call to ask when the next clinic will be.** Our phones are ringing off the hook with parents concerned about their sick or exposed children and we need to focus our attention on those calls. Monday scout. Sometimes things aren’t optimal ie time of day or obstacles out of your control. That’s when a visit to this project, a beautiful new school, becomes a learning experience...kind of like an artist sketching ideas in their journal. But Instagram is public and why not share it here. When this happens, I’m never upset because I’ll make a return visit or as many as necessary. I took a few “scouting photos” to see what I might like but also trying to hide things that are just outside the frame. Carrollton has some great dog parks that I will be featuring, but a personal favorite is the Bark Park in nearby Farmer’s Branch. The park is located next to the Farmer’s Branch Rec center and is open 6am-10pm Tuesday- Sunday. It has double gates and a small dog side and large dog side. It’s one of my favs because it has lights. In the winter when it’s already dark when I get home from work, I can still take my pup to the park! In the summer, both sections of the park (small and big dog) have splash pads. You push a button and a small play area sprays water for your pup to splash around in. I like this because in Texas standing water gets stagnant in the summers. As much as I love taking my dog to parks with ponds and lakes, this is a much safer option for those hot summer months. - @carrolltonlove on Instagram

The Leadership Northland class recently put their leadership and problem solving skills to the test at the @tuckerleadership at William Jewell College. Director Al Leone and her facilitators lead the class on important life skills of communication, teamwork, trust and leadership. Afterwards, the group went to the aide of one of their classmates to complete a volunteer community service project at @urbanrangercorps. This non-profit organization provides boys and young men ages 12 to 18 with a unique opportunity to develop the appropriate life skills necessary for them to become successful and contributing members of society. Nothing changes if nothing changes! This time last year I had major resistance to something. I fabricated justification after justification so it made sense in my brain: maybe it was “winter blues”, exhaustion (3 kids), too much on the to-do list, you bet I found excuses and decorated them up as viable reasons. I was resisting attending events. I had already attended all of the conferences (invested nearly $20k). I already knew everything, it’s just the same regurgitated content, right? I couldn’t afford it, kids needed new boots and Mama had bills to pay. How could I justify childcare for a “party”? See, all the “reasons” but what I realized once I got my head out of my 🍑 was this resistance came from fear. Fear of being heard. Fear of being seen. Fear of being judged. Fear of feeling like an imposter. Fear of not being enough. When my dear friend @businesswithsarah asked me to speak at the @gcwsummit last year, after I vomited and had a panic attack, my mindset changed. I saw the insane value this experience brought to the attendees. The collaborations and lifelong connections, the endless opening doors of opportunity, the power of high vibrations and surrounding yourself with the right people. The impact and clarity “regurgitated content” actually provides. I made a pact that weekend that I was going to show up big in 2020 whether I felt like it, or not. Whether I had “extra” money, childcare help, time or not—because I am worth it! So are you! Because I recognized this was a self imposed limitation and I chose to push through the discomfort of my “reasons” I’m not only speaking at 5 events (so far) this year but I’m hosting my own, and in the application process for TEDx. This I can say is 100% because I was willing to put myself out there. I was willing to invest in my personal growth. I was willing to change the dialogue from “I can’t and I won’t” to “I can and I will” for the price of what I used to spend on a pair of jeans or a night out 🥴 If you are a mom and have been getting that nudge that there is more out there for you, that’s because there is and it starts with a small decision to show up for yourself. Time + Tide Chinzombo has thought of every detail, including a Covid-Kit Welcome Amenity. And after sanitizing and getting our temps taken (a new daily staple of safari) it was welcome drinks, game drives, R&R at our villa’s private pool, curated cuisine, stunning sunsets and more. The team is overjoyed to welcome guests back and we spoke with a few others enjoying their long weekend on the South Luangwa River. My favorite was a multi-gen family; the Grandmother from DC had been working from home (“stuck” to use her word) and when she was told she would be until at least Jan 2021, so grabbed her laptop, got a three-month visa, and headed to Lusaka where her daughter (who works for the US embassy) and grandchildren are living … I’m with her! Zambia provides endless exploration in a safe expansive setting with activity, connectivity, and little bit of luxury! Happy Thursday, University of Washington Tacoma! Heres another #UWTThenandNow featuring the Science Building, the slightly obvious home to all things SCIENCE at UWT. Find out more about the history of the building which houses most of the classrooms and laboratories dedicated to teaching our huskies all the intricacies and complexities of the world. Science Building - Built 2001 In the late 1880s several residences, including a lodging house, were built on this site, but were torn down some time afterward. In 1949 a two-story reinforced concrete building erected here housed a motor parts store and an oil filter service company. It was demolished before construction of the Science Building. The first of two new-construction projects on the UW Tacoma campus, the Science Building was designed by Moore Ruble Yudell of Santa Monica, California, and LMN Architects of Seattle to blend in with the nearby historic brick buildings. A skybridge links the Science and Keystone buildings above Hood Street, where the original railroad terminus that linked Tacoma to the transcontinental railroad once brought trains through what is now the campus. Phare is located in the heart of Kansas Citys Midtown area on the 2nd floor of the historic Luzier Building. This two-building structure, dates back to 1927-1928 and originally housed Luzier Cosmetics Company on the south end and Martha Washington Candle Company at the north building. In 1928 Thomas Luzier hired female architect Nelle Peters to design his building. When the Luzier acquired the building to its north in 1933, the new section was remodeled to match Peters’s design so the two would be unified in what we see today.
