A true Goat!! I’ve know Alex since we were 14 years old, he has always been one step ahead of the crowd. Whatever he does he does it to the absolute limit and then some. To say he has been an inspiration to me would be an understatement. From snowboarding when we were teenagers to filmmaking as a career, I always admired his dedication and relentless hard work. Axl was diagnosed with brain cancer in May and underwent a massive surgery in June to remove 80% of it. Over the next year he will be doing radiation treatments and chemo to battle the remaining 20%. I don’t know how to say goodbye to a parent. There is always some gap between who a parent should be and who they actually are - I’m feeling this difference acutely in the wake of losing my dad last week. I will never forget all of the lessons he taught me and how he would drive us into the desert in silence while I photographed. This may be a major understatement, but we all could use some good news, right? Well, last week the US House of Representatives passed the Great American Outdoors Act - this would guarantee $900M per year for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that supports the purchase and improvement of public lands across the country. The LWCF is “the single most important funding source for protecting land in perpetuity,” said our General Manager, Bill Keene, in a recent Press Democrat article. As the bill heads towards presidential signature, Ag + Open Space is already planning what we could do with additional grants from the LWCF. As mentioned in the same article by Misti Arias, our Acquisition Manager, we are considering the purchase of several properties that would mean the protection of about 25,000 more acres! Having been here a few times before, I knew there was a chance it could be windy..but this morning was the worst I have ever experienced. We arrived 2 hours early for sunrise and @victoriarosesheridan says “‘maybe we could find a tree to hide behind” we laughed, we looked around and we were in open flat barren land with nothing but a bit flax and shrub. We found a little wet shrub that was on a small hill to hide behind that blocked us from the wind and we stayed, adamant that we were going to see the sunrise here ☀️ We just sat there laughing at the state we were in and how we could barely move let alone even shoot because as soon as we got our hands out of our gloves they wouldn’t function from being so cold. 3 times and I’ve still not seen upper Tama Lakes, maybe a winter trip will be nicer to me 😂 📸: @victoriarosevisuals - @rachellejane on Instagram

There are about 200 volcanos 🌋 throughout the iceland, and on average, there is at least one eruption every four to five years The black sand beach in Vik and some other beaches in Iceland have their color due to these volcanic explosions. Now You See Me, Now You Don’t starts with the idea of the humble puddle and notion that one person’s inconvenience may be another’s gift. Puddles by their nature are as accidental as they are evanescent. They are formed by gravity. According to the laws of physics falling rain and flowing water seek places of maximum inertia collecting and pooling to become, depending on climate and conditions, either an annoyance or a resource. In the Saudi desert where water is scarce. and in AlUla in particular where the rich aquifer has been largely depleted when water appears it takes on a near mystical significance. It is quite literally a life force, a fleeting presence whose imprint is immediately captured in the diversity of flora and fauna it awakens from long periods of dormancy. It is also temporary and, as the title of Manal AlDowayan’s installation suggests, the range of lifeforms, thoughts and ideas it may instigate can also disappear at any moment. But the puddles of Now You See Me, Now You Don’t are trampolines not water and the invitation to dip in a toe is here extended to include the entire body. To interact with them is tap into potential energy - to to defy gravity, experience weightless and be released from our dependence on the ground and what lies within it. By encouraging us to play with these ideas AlDowayan activates deeper and more resonant conversations around issues of climate change, water scarcity and inevitably - given the dark blackness of the pools - the idea that for the rest of the century and beyond it will be water not oil that shapes our global and political economies. Youre not finding inspiration because youre not having fun. _ Had to be the truest revelation ever while I finally decided to have fun watching a Netflix season after what has been a long time..good old plain binge-watching fun! Meanwhile, scrolling down the myriad of random snapshots in my gallery, found this one amongst many. Chose this one singularly because of my niece! I find this little girl highly inspiring because she teaches me how to have fun when Im being a prude, live in the moment and have her own way without budging on her stance. This 4 year old is the most strong-willed girl I know! Most of the times, Im told by everyone that shes just like me, so much so that her mother sometimes mistakenly calls her Fatima. And though I jokingly say her resembling me might be both a blessing (and vice versa!), I just end up wishing she gets the best in life and not the share of messy problems Ive had. I might not be the truest self of her in whatever I stated above, but she has helped me find my way back more times than I can count. This is also perhaps the first time shes being featured on the blog 😂❤ _ One of our fondest memory together - her as a 1.5 year old: My best friend and her sitting on the bed, while I sit on its end on a sofa with my laptop. Ive to finish up some freelancing article and shes constantly curious about what Im doing. Has recently learnt how to crawl. She excitedly crawls towards me to peek a glance at the laptop, and I hasten to keep it away from her saying Mae kaam kr rae hu!!, as the keys light a spark in her eyes (!). My best friend very rightly points out to me, She just needs your attention Fatima! As I hold her in my lap, to my surprise, she calmly sits there and says, Lala kaam kro kaam! pointing towards the laptop.
