The Fehn Bench One of my favourite products to date. Amazingly simple using zero fixings just a series of grooves interlocking to produce a rigid and elegant structure. I love the honesty of this design, everything that is used is on show. I member me and my brother were in la skating the #world inds. park and Keenan Gino Keith came with the #mnc dudes to skate and there was a police barrier there and Keith was skating it on flat, and I was like dam that fool got pop, so I watched and learned where and how he put his feet. And I also ollied that same barrier after a few times I watched him do it.. When I did it, he was like in shock, like dam u got some pop dont u!? And I said na u got the pop! both started laughing.. that was the only time I ever ollied one of those on flat and the 1 and only 1 too, I couldnt pop over it again that night or ever..hahaha!!! #ReleasedOnThisDate. September 23, 1970. Today marks the 50th anniversary of The Allman Brothers Bands release of their second studio album Idlewild South. Recorded at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Criteria Studios in Miami and Regent Sound Studios in New York City. Produced by Tom Dowd. After the release of their debut album in November 1969, the band hit the road, playing more than 300 shows in 1970. The album title comes from the bands nickname for the cabin the band rented for rehearsals and parties in rural Lizella, GA. According to Dickey, There was so much traffic in and out of there, we named it after Idlewild Airport in New York. The record was recorded gradually, with band members reconvening in the studio on days off in between shows, or when Duane was called away to do session work. Producer Tom Dowd heard the band in Macon, and had Phil Walden bring them to Miami to record. Instead of using multi-track recording, the group opted to cut the songs live, with all the musicians playing together. The album opens and closes with the twin guitar sound that Duane and Dickey were known for. It features the first songs written by Dickey Betts (Revival, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed) and the only ABB song that featured Berry Oakley on lead vocals (Hoochie Coochie Man). The most recognized song is Greggs Midnight Rider, co-written with lyrics from roadie Kim Payne. Upon the albums release, reviews were mostly positive. Electric blues with an acoustic texture, virtuoso lead, slide and organ playing on a killer selection of songs. It’s been one year since we first stepped into the @penroserecordings studio to record “Can I Call You Rose?”. It was our first time recording on tape and we were all nervous to be in the same room with @daptonerecords legend, Gabe Roth. I wrote the instrumental for Rose late 2018, a few months before meeting Josh. I didn’t think much of it at first until Sal insisted we used it for our project. We met Josh soon after that when he came to our practice space for the first time and, inspired by a rose patterned cobija hung on the wall, wrote the lyrics and melodies in one take. Since then, this song holds a special place in our hearts and we’re all appreciative of the support and love we’ve received. Here it is…FINALLY! 🥳 We are so happy to open Strange Brew THIS WEEKEND and have life in the place. There were times when it seemed like it wouldn’t happen and Covid has put us under enormous stress, like it has for so many venues and businesses. But we’re over the line and a large part of that is down to our incredible community and team of volunteers who gave their time, support and advice. A massive thank you and love to all of you who helped and had faith in us. We would not be here without you and will do our best to credit everyone over the coming weeks. We first approached the landlord in 2016 and have been working on it pretty much non-stop outside of our day jobs since 2018. Negotiations, regulations and paperwork have been excruciatingly slow and frightening at times. We’ve had to get our heads around a lot of new things and every task has brought its own challenges. When we got the keys at the start of this year it was a total wreck, abandoned for the best part of a decade with barely any water or electricity. Now it’s a beautiful, majestic and absolutely awesome beast (if we do say so ourselves!). But every second has been worth it – because bringing people together around music and art is important. After 10 years of putting on parties in Bristol we have been inspired by many other venues and have formed countless happy memories and relationships in them. We’ve already started new friendships and consolidated old ones through Strange Brew. Now it’s time for everyone to enjoy it (with bums on seats for now…) THANK YOU & WE HOPE YOU LIKE IT! Hace 10 años encarábamos el acto más importante de nuestra historia, el más importante que habíamos tenido hasta el momento. Había que derribar el mito de ser una organización superestructural, sin construcción en el territorio. Nos jugábamos todo. Así lo sentimos. Y otros, ya a esa altura, nos ponían fecha de vencimiento. 🤦🏽♂️ En ese momento ya me tocaba ser el responsable político de la 2da sección y para ese día me tocó armar la tribuna, la mística: los tirantes, los paraguas y las banderas. Y claro, lo más importante: que no falte nadie de la 2da. Durante el acto había que seguir cuidando esa tribuna, la que Néstor y Cristina tenían de frente. Agité y me emocioné desde el paraavalancha. I really like photos of us in the front of an open space. I think with our album we tried to create a similar feeling. Hopefully it allows you to step inside of our world with space to let it reflect on you however you want, encouraging you to navigate and experience whatever wherever while also realizing that at some point in time we were experiencing a very similar moment. Its amazing to me that in that way we are all connected. No one will ever know how much it means to us that they would take the time to listen to something that we made. Thank you for letting us be ourselves and sharing in whatever it is we can all relate about. I hope we help you the way you help us. This is an empty cage - a cage where breeding dogs spend their entire lives. After playing our first show at a teen center in Milpitas, Ca(feb 1999) we drove down to Mexico for 2 shows with buck-o-nine & voodoo glow skulls.- - Tijuana was night one with well over 1,000 people. We played well and people were going wild. I remember Federales surrounding the venue with guns around their shoulders. And I remember buck-o-nine not making it, but cant remember why?- - The next night was in Ensenada. We had stopped on the way for lobster with voodoo. It was super cheap and we drank Bloody Marys. Buck-o-nine made it to night 2. I remember we didnt play that great, but the show was still pretty sick.- - We went to a party afterwards and ate ceviche tacos, avocados and drank chihuahua beer. This is a classic shot from my tenure with the great @cyrobaptista and his band Beat the Donkey. BTD was my first “real” gig on an international level and I went from playing in local bars and restaurants to sharing stages around the world with artists I idolized. Being around Cyro and the band totally changed my concept of music, sound, and performance. Lots of great guitarists wanted this gig and I’m so grateful I was chosen! Cyro used to tell me not to jump so high. He was terrified I was gonna end up carried off the stage in a stretcher. Looking back, I’m grateful I outgrew my space suit before that happened. I really cannot describe how lucky we are to have all of you interested in what we do. Its become especially apparent the last few years. We appreciate you being there for every new sound and project we try, including our new live shows last year. Theres so much music and so much cynicism out there, the fact that you always give an artist you like a chance means everything. At the start of this year I thought to myself, ‘if we could only make one last album what would it sound like’, it made me realise what’s important and I’ve got a really good feeling about this one. Quarantine has given a new level of focus that you can’t normally get. I know we take our sweet time but albums are our favourite thing to make so hold on we’ll be with you soon.
