I was so honoured a few weeks back to be part of the @theunionmovement podcast, sharing a bit of my story and some tips on how to raise body confident kids and healthy body image in today’s world based on my life experience with struggling with an eating disorder and body hate. I truly believe now as a 34 years old and 10 plus years eating disorders free, being body confident doesn’t mean you have to adore it all day, every day. Our bodies go through seasons, they age, they grow, they fail us sometimes. I know I didn’t want to spend any more days hating my body and letting it control my life and I now truly believe there is a space we can befriend our bodies, appreciate them by embracing all their abilities, including way they look as they are and ultimately live a life free of daily insecurities and comparison. Teaching my kids their body, as it is, is part of them. An extension, not their identity. And their bodies will always change, grow and age... and that’s ok! Thinking of all the ways it serves us and loving it beyond what it looks like on the outside. I hope this podcast can help others and thank you again @theunionmovement for having me share. . . CONVALESCENCE JOUR 104 Nous sommes donc un peu plus de 3 mois après mon hystérectomie. Mon corps est (presque) complètement remis et j’ai le droit de tout faire (sauf de la corde à sauter et des sports de contacts). Dis, terrain de basket, quand reviendras-tu? J’ai appris mes limites, physiques et mentales, j’ai été forcée d’apprendre à être un peu plus patiente et j’ai eu l’occasion de faire un tri sélectif de mon entourage bienveillant VS vampirisant. Autant d’apprentissages fort utiles pour la suite. Je remercie encore mille fois toutes les personnes, famille et ami.e.s qui m’ont soutenue et accompagnée pendant ma convalescence, de l’envoi de fleurs à la chasse aux collages féministes affichant mon nom, en passant par le « jeûne et randonnée » dans le Gers. Et je remercie la vie de nous avoir permis, à @bartolucci_enrico et moi d’arriver au bout du 2ème film, dans ce contexte rocambolesque, entre confinement, opération et autres canicules. Une Histoire à Soi, notre 2e documentaire, est désormais dans les starting-blocks pour bientôt voler de ses propres ailes. Et comme la vie est très généreuse, j’ai eu la chance de me voir remettre aujourd’hui un « Jeu de l’Oie, femmes et cinéma » par #marieleroy de la Mission Droits des Femmes de @villesaintdenis (graphisme @woooonder_p )!!! 2020 aura testé mes limites et j’en ressors avec plus de joie et de motivation que jamais. The world is so accepting of our physical injuries...but what happens when our brain breaks? We get left in the dark. It’s ignorance. It’s release day for @allwecansave! I predict you’re going to hug this book. I still can’t believe my essay is part of this incredible volume of wisdom from women climate leaders. When I was invited to contribute an essay, I realized I had never written down any of the lessons I’ve learned over the past decade of leading the Beyond Coal campaign. So that’s what I’ve shared here, in the hopes that everyone out there who’s fired up to do some thing about the climate crisis can find a thread they can pick up and run with. The woman who gave me my words. When I started school my mum used to buy all my stationery at Books unlimited in Emmarentia. We had a very close relationship to Brian who owned the shop and if ever my mum was late to fetch me from school, I was to go to the bookshop and wait for her. I would sit in the shop and read all of the book titles. One day Brian told my mom that he should get me a library card from the Emmarentia Library, so I could have access to free books. And so the Thursday ritual began. For about 10 years my mother would walk me to the library and sit patiently on the bench outside, while I chose my books for the week. She never rushed me, sometimes I would be in there for up to half an hour picking books. And for ten years, she never missed a single Thursday. When I was finished my books, I would then tell her about each of the stories. We did this dance for 10 years until I was old enough to go to the Library myself. My mother is not very literate, at most she can read and write her name and mine, but look what she raised! A storyteller. She says she always knew. When I was three years old, she left me unattended while she was preparing for our annual trip to Zimbabwe. When she came back into the room a few minutes later, I was scribbling all over her passport with a red pen and when she asked me what I was doing, I simply responded “I’m writing”. Theyll get the same dry hop and same fruiting. Theyll even get the same water treatments and release date... I smile a lot. But lately I have been pretty grumpy with the state of the world.⠀ ⠀ I dont like seeing genuine asylum seekers being treated like criminals.⠀ I dont like seeing people troll Magda Szubanski after she participated in an ad to help cheer us on during lockdown.⠀ I dont like the fact that 1 woman a week on average is dying due to domestic violence.⠀ I dont like people suggesting that old peoples lives are less valuable than others.⠀ I dont like the fact that the gender pay gap remains at 14% in 2020⠀ I dont like the fact that we still need to be saying Black Lives Matter.⠀ I dont like that the protection of our earth isnt bipartisan. ⠀ ⠀ I could go on, this is what comes to top of mind today. ⠀ ⠀ I am in such a position of privilege that I can choose to not think about many of these things and my life will tick along quite fine.⠀ But its not fine. Desperate times, adoption appeal. Cheeni, a pup Ive been fostering since over two months now, immediately needs to be adopted. Due to some reasons, I wont be able to keep her after September, and despite numerous attempts by @bosswithpaws, weve still not received an adoption request for her.😔 Shes a 5.5 months old, female indie pup. She had a terrible maggot wound on her forehead when she was rescued by @bosswithpaws, which has healed amazingly well. ✨ Shes very self sufficient, easy to train, adaptable and beautiful. Shes very active, yet will adapt to your routine and not trouble you (much 😅). My mom, who is not very fond of keeping pets has warmed up to her in ways unimaginable, and if would have been possible, we would have definitely kept her forever. She has been vaccinated and dewormed, and doesnt need any special or extra care, apart from the love she deserves. 💙 Please consider adopting her, and if you cant, share this adoption appeal amongst your circle. The best picture I have ever received 😭😍 I waited a year to see my grandma as I couldnt travel for the whole of 2019 while I waited for my PR. I saw her for a 1hr distanced visit in March before dramatically escaping back to Canada before everything shut down (I think like everyone I have not really processed the initial stress/fear/grief of the pandemic but oyyyy speeding down the highway before the airport shuts is not the kind of thrill I hoped for in 2020).
