#FacultyFriday with Jackie Weigel, our lower school art teacher! Mrs. Weigel first joined the Covenant Day community as a parent when daughters Katie, 09, and Mackenzie 11 were in 2nd-grade and Kindergarten. It wasnt long before Mrs. Weigel teamed up with four other moms planning, writing, editing, producing, and performing lower school chapel. The goal was to create lessons based on the meanings of Gods names, his character, and how we are to follow, and Kingdom Character was born. By Gods grace, Kingdom Character chapels continue to this day and are a beloved part of the lower school curriculum! Through the years, Mrs. Weigel has touched the school in many ways. Along with the same group of moms that began Kingdom Character, she helped establish Covenant Days annual Community Heroes Chapel and Mission Week. In addition to this, Mrs. Weigel coached for thirteen years. First as a middle school cheerleading coach and later as the varsity cheerleading coach. Seven members of the varsity co-ed cheerleading team she helped form and coach went on to cheer for Division 1 schools! Most recently, Mrs. Weigel served on the Christian Schools International Accreditation Team for Covenant Day. But, it was when God opened the door for Mrs. Weigel to teach art 14 years ago that she realized she had found her true calling. When asked what makes the Covenant Day community unique, Mrs. Weigel said, That we agree we are a messy, imperfect family desiring to live for the One who is not. In her spare time, Mrs. Weigel enjoys dinner (cooked by her husband!) and long walks where she can take pictures of creation as God reveals his handiwork. If you know Mrs. Weigel, then you know her motto, If its good, its God! permeates all she does, and we are thankful to have her as part of our community! During a media trip organised by Louis Vuitton, I got the chance to visit a magical place in the South of India called Dakshina Chitra Museum @dakshinachitra_heritagemuseum . Located about 25 Km to the south of Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, DakshinChitra has been developed as a heritage museum. Built on 10 acres, the place has an array of displays and relocated originals of dwellings depicting the life pattern of people in the states of southern India. The exhibits portray the architecture, art, folk performing arts and craft. This is the place where I experienced handloom up close and even tried my hands at weaving. This is where and when I learnt first hand the intricacy of woven fabric, the patience and perseverance required on behalf of the artisans. Posing here with an artisan who weaves day in and day out to bring alive beautiful fabrics and sarees. This was an unforgettable experience... and even more unforgettable is the fact that I lost my favourite pair of Ray Ban sunglasses on this trip.. When I was in high school I was scared to dance. ⠀ ⠀ I remember standing on the side thinking, “Eeeeek… this is soooo awkward.” ⠀ ⠀ I tried some dance lessons, but I was just not really learning the moves. ⠀ ⠀ And then...I admit.... alcohol helped me learn how to dance without caring so much at the beginning of college🙈… it was a start though.⠀ ⠀ Slowly I became a little more comfortable dancing sober at parties…. ⠀ ⠀ Then I remember wanting to dance in the car “like I didn’t care”. (You know that phrase everyone says?) ⠀ ⠀ Just dance like no one is watching!!! ⠀ ⠀ Well yeah, that’s easy to say… butttt when it’s soooo unnatural it’s not that easy. ⠀ ⠀ I remember the first time I started dancing/singing in the car with the a friend… he made fun of me a bit (in a joking way) and yet for the first time I didn’t stop. ⠀ ⠀ That was a moment. A moment where I felt really brave. A moment that was magical. And then became my new normal. Yes, you can laugh all you want. I have a crazy way of dancing. And I’m so proud of it. It feels like me. The true me. ⠀ ⠀ Later I really found my full flow of dancing…. Or lack of flow! Hah. ⠀ ⠀ And it’s also my barometer of the journey I’ve been on. Letting my real self out, finding my confidence and my aliveness. ⠀ ⠀ Not letting the comments and judgments of others dictate what I do. ⠀ ⠀ And that’s the freedom and power I want for everyone who desires. It is so available. It is so, absolutely inside of us if we want to uncover it and let it out. ⠀ ⠀ The dance moves look different. But the aliveness and freedom is the same. I’m sitting here in bed going through these photos of them on my Instagram and I feel so far away from them now. I want to go back & sit with her, just hold her & cry because I don’t know how to save her You have no idea how it feels going into this darkness, seeing them like this. Scroll back up & really look at her, look at her eyes & her babies...are we really doing this to them? I have literally died inside. I’ll never feel real happiness while they are suffering, I can feel them in my soul every minute of the day, behind every “happy moment” all my jokes & laughs, she’s there. All of them are, sitting so heavy inside my chest. I’ve said this for years & it’s still the same, even though I appear happier now, I’ll never leave the darkness. My friend told me a few months ago that my ex Jessie messaged him while we were together saying “I’ve lost her bro, she’s gone into the darkness from this & she’s not coming back” hearing that really hit me I did mushrooms once to try & release some of this, because seeing a psychologist just doesn’t help, they really just don’t get it. During the trip I was hanging off my bed crying in so much pain, my friend was telling me it’s ok to let go now, that I can’t carry all of this but I can still fight for them. I was crying hysterically saying no into my pillow curled up “I’m staying with them” If I leave the darkness it means I’ve let go of them. I refuse to just get on with my life. That’s why I keep going back If you haven’t been inside & met them like this you will never understand what if feels like. The suffering in the air as you walk toward these sheds. Opening the door & seeing all of them. I can’t smell the night air without thinking of them now There is a real darkness in this world & it’s us, we are doing this to them by choice. We have chosen to be evil, allow the industry to hide them away, package their bodies & feed us lies. I refuse to let them win. This needs to end. I don’t know why anyone would be ok with paying for this to happen to someone else. This is her life, this is her soul, her body. Who are we to do this. The best picture I have ever received 😭😍 I waited a year to see my grandma as I couldnt travel for the whole of 2019 while I waited for my PR. I saw her for a 1hr distanced visit in March before dramatically escaping back to Canada before everything shut down (I think like everyone I have not really processed the initial stress/fear/grief of the pandemic but oyyyy speeding down the highway before the airport shuts is not the kind of thrill I hoped for in 2020). Desperate times, adoption appeal. Cheeni, a pup Ive been fostering since over two months now, immediately needs to be adopted. Due to some reasons, I wont be able to keep her after September, and despite numerous attempts by @bosswithpaws, weve still not received an adoption request for her.😔 Shes a 5.5 months old, female indie pup. She had a terrible maggot wound on her forehead when she was rescued by @bosswithpaws, which has healed amazingly well. ✨ Shes very self sufficient, easy to train, adaptable and beautiful. Shes very active, yet will adapt to your routine and not trouble you (much 😅). My beautiful skin🤍 ❤️When my kids were about 3 and 5 years old they were both deeply absorbed in a colouring activity. I overheard my daughter ask my son to pass her the “skin color crayon”. My son carried on coloring and without looking up said: “which skin color crayon do you want...mummy’s skin color ...or our skin color?” Kids see clearly and although they may be blunt in their comments there’s a refreshing honesty that comes with it. Of course we are all different colours! 😍With so much going on about the color of our skin in todays world, I thought I would write a few posts about it starting with the basics: Our skin is the largest organ in the body and not only covers and protects the entire physical system from germs and disease, but also enables us to have a sense of touch and is responsible for heating and cooling us down. About 5% of our cells make a substance called melanin which gives the skin its color. The darker your skin, the more melanin you have (like mine ~ although I am half Peruvian and half Scottish, I have been blessed with a lovely deep brown skin color like my mama). When you go out into the sun, the cells very cleverly make extra melanin to protect the body from getting burned by the sun’s UV rays. The cells in the skin will regenerate themselves approximately every 27 days. As the cells die and shed off, they reveal more radiant, younger looking skin underneath. As we age, the cell regeneration process takes longer and there is a build up of dead skin cells which can make the complexion look dull and tired. Our skin will change constantly throughout our lives ~ for better or worse depending on how you look after it. To maintain good health of this protective organ it is vital you 🤍drink sufficient (but not too much) fresh filtered water 🤍eat fresh, organic nutritious foods full of vitamins and minerals 🤍cleanse gently AND moisturise the skin with products that are free from harmful chemicals 🤍see more .....in comments below - @thewholeyou.uk on Instagram
I wear many, many hats at @thegentlebarn but my absolute favorite is when I’m healing a new, sick, or old animal.
